The issue with the way you did it is it will leave a lot of chatter on the bottom of the part, and you still have to clean up where you broke the part off. I prefer to come in from 3 sides, cutting essentially a rectangular pocket, then doing a cleanup pass. This leaves small tabs that can be cut with snips, and can be done with no chatter, or possibility of eating the part and braking an endmill.

Thanks Nicole, awesome as always. This was a super helpful tip to do the chamfer by slotting behind the back face before parting. I had always done it in a second op in the vice, and that totally makes sense. I love my Microarc 4, and I love that the latest path pilot fixed a bunch of the preview issues with the 4th axis. Any chance you're planning a rotary tool path video? I don't own a lathe and a few times I have attempted a rotary path on it I end up with shredded metal rather than something that looks turned. (I've done plenty of 4th axis wrapped paths without a problem).

Is this a true forth axis or just an indexer? Also that is a huge waste of relatively expensive material, milling it then saw cutting it close to size then face milling the back off would waste less material and give a better finish than using an endmill as a cutoff tool them breaking it off.

That doesn't sound to good, a lot of chatter. I find you guys push everything to the limit. I have tooling that I run every day, holding .0002" that I haven't changed in about four years. Chatter/vibration= chipped tooling. You have to let the tool cut, not hammer into the part. If you want to run fast, use a lower feed untill you are engaged into the material & then ramp it up, but for what I saw, 1 rgh pass, then 1 fin pass for each side of hex would have sufficed. My personal experience 36 yrs

The stunning level of inefficiency makes my soul bleed. Tool selection alone makes my teeth itch. And how long are you cutting those aluminum bars, exactly, that you think you're doing multiple before the material starts moving and breaking apart that wonderful carbide? You should always reflect that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

Please consider taking you own sage advice. You offer nothing constructive. This is not a master class in 4th axis machining. It shows beginners and those unfamiliar a single simple example of what can be accomplished on a budget machine using a newly released bit of kit.

Most machine shops are not like the Show! Most are nasty/ dirty with low life owners! Most shops only keep enough work for a couple of weeks, maybe month max They have shows like this because people hate working in machine shop and the industry can not replacing the people. I regret getting into this business.... Run More and faster with less pay! I wish you tube would not feed this crap to my app Stay away.

So, you really have to ask yourself, "Why the HELL do I (meaning you) keep making useless comments regarding TORMACH machining videos?" In fact, why do you even watch these videos at all? Surely you have better things to do with your valuable time? Please save your precious knowledge for sharing somewhere where it will be fully appreciated. And that place is most definitely not HERE...
