Welcome to CNC Router Beginner to Pro EP02 The Spoilboard.
One of the first projects to tackle is making a Spoilboard for your router. I have a ton of different suggestions and tips to make this an easy project.
Mine has through holes for M8 screws but chances are your machine structure looks different. You can cut holes and also use threaded inserts for wood. there are a lot of different hold down options once you have a spoilboard. Clamps, Tape & Superglue, Screws or composite nails, but we will get to that at a later episode.

Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I visit your channel every week. I really like the design of your cnc router and would like to know what type/size of aluminium profiles have you used to build the base frame and gantry x-axis also the size of the linear rails/blocks you have employed.

Excellent ! For the frame parts have a look at the Misumi web site. I like the heavy extrusions. I think it’s the HFSG 6-6060. For the guides have a look at HIWIN HGH 25 CA. Have fun building your machine !!

Can you tell me that tool you use to remove the rough spots on the edge of the hole. Around 4:52? Thanks!

Yes certainly, it’s a simple de-burring tool that you can buy as a set to use on different materials. Plastic, aluminum and steel works on all of them. My set was cheap and it’s from Shars. But you can find it also on Amazon

I have probably just spent up to $3000 in my head on my CNC upgrades after watching your channel, really looking forward to improving my CNC even before I start making any parts for my RC hobby. I love this idea of putting a spoil board on top of the aluminum bed, can't wait to do this..

It is a very good concept. I use my machine for RC Airplane parts and quad cooters.

3000$ i can build 2 big cnc machine what can use any RC and aluminium parts what i want ewer doing whit machine. and 3 pcs middle size cnc machine, sure, my RC and metal work hobby.

my son cnc machine i build less than 1000$ and can cutting 1200mm long wing profile, or wood or aluminium parts maximum size at table 1400x1400x400, easy simple build own cnc machine.

I might show how to make a mold for a DLG glider wing. But that is a maybe.

What about a spoilboard entirely of HDPE? Why nobody is using HDPE? Costs reasons or what? Ok, it is a warping material, but once screwed down and flattened should be better than MDF.Or not? Also the threade insert on it should be more pull-resistant than the once on MDF.

I think HDPE is not really well suited as a spoilboard. It is just not rigid enough and like you mentioned it moves a lot. Now POM on the other side is a totally different story it is very well suited and you can cut threads right into it and they hold well.

Cost is an issue. Just for comparison, 3/8" thick x 24" x 24" stress relieved HDPE is $60, while Delrin is $290.

Correct not really a disposable solution like MDF
