I was privileged to attend every UCLA home game during my six years as a graduate student at UCLA during the Wooden years. I have always admired Coach Wooden's principles and the ways he instilled them in his players and fans.

If I were a highschool basketball player there would only be one school I would have wanted to go to and that would have been UCLA. If my son were to be recruited I would have told all of the other schools not to waste there time, my son is going to UCLA. And that is simply because of john Wooden.

I had the privilege of being very good friends with coach’s son. He and I would occasionally meet up with coach and have a nice conversation.

I grew up in the Deep South in the 1960s at what was the the very end of segregation when the SEC schools in the south were resisting attempts to integrate, even their sports programs, so watching UCLA with its mixed race basketball teams win championships repeatedly under Coach Wooden showed me and the world how successful inclusion can be.

He was benched after 11 minutes of that game. He was furious since he was a senior, a medical red-shirt senior at that.

John Wooden the only person to be elected to the Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.

Don't grow a mustache, have short hair, no names on jerseys and a coach has a stepford white wife. All the true ingredients of winning in Wooden's program. Forget all the pyramid nonsense. If you can without those things, I will listen.

Great coach but a massive cheater. Had a wealthy alumnus booster coordinating a huge effort to pay the best players in the country against the rules. Basically every year UCLA had half or more of the McDonalds All-Americans. So Wooden talking about character is phony.
