Very helpful differentiation. I'm an experienced lifter (40 years) and work functional with kettlebells for some years now. Clubs are an entirely different cup of tea although. I consider it to be a great idea to do warmups with the Indian and workouts with the steel, but for some this may be too complicated already. I found it enlightening that light wooden clubs have built the foundation for fitness for European soldiers for centuries; the modern army only dropped them around after WW I.

I started about 3 years ago with a baseball bat. I'm up to a 15 pound steel club. I can understand the value in using well made traditionally designed clubs. and will soon get two. But I think some exercises can be done with substitute equipment, and the benefits felt pretty quickly. Then getting specifically designed equipment will be a pleasure, and money well invested. Thank you Coach Vaughn.

If the club is 1 pound, would it matter if the material is wood or steel?

It's a lot like looking at one pound of fat versus one pound muscle. Wood has less density than steel - so therefore a 1LB steel club would be very small compared to a wooden one. In contrast, Meels are giant wooden clubs and take up a lot of space at 20-30lbs, but I have a 30LB steel club that's 1/4 the size of a meel club. Wood is preferred because the drills are more focused on speed and range of motion.
