Watch the US Army's 101st Airborne Division land in a field off Purple Heart Lane, as they did 80 years ago on D-Day. This was as re-enacted by three C-47 Dakotas of the D-Day Squadron. UH-60 Black Hawks also landed for an air assault demonstration, followed by soldiers parachuting from C-130 Hercules. Throughout, vintage and serving military vehicles are shown along with emergency vehicles during a very busy event in the town of Carentan-les-Marais, Normandy.
0:00 - French Army Arquus VT-4 'Operational Sentinel' convoy
0:28 - US Army UH-60 Black Hawks 101st Airborne Division
2:25 - US Air Force C-130 Hercules, US Army Golden Knights Parachute Team
- This list is a Work In Progress
This anniversary of D-Day marks 80 years since allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate France and the rest of Europe from the Nazis in World War II. The event commemorates the allied invasion and thanks the veterans who took part, while also remembering the thousands who perished on June 6th, 1944.

My Grandfather was a C-47 pilot who flew in the D-Day invasion. He dropped paratroopers and gliders over many runs. The second night, June 7th, after a paratrooper drop his plane the "Miss Barbara" was shot down and they ditched in the English Channel. All crewmembers survived and they floated in a raft for a day until picked up by a Spanish ship. They made their way back to England and got in another C-47 and flew many more missions. I never heard the full story from him directly as he would never talk about his time in the War. He was the Greatest Man i'll ever know, I miss him. God bless him and all the WWII Veterans.

Looks like the Golden Knights dropped in. I love the C130 with invasion stripes. Per US ANG website: "The aircraft, an U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 123rd Airlift Wing, will fly over France Thursday as part of scheduled D-Day observances, said Master Sgt. Lee Stanley, aircraft structural shop chief for Kentucky’s 123rd Maintenance Squadron. His Airmen applied the historic livery in late May, adding black-and-white stripes, period-accurate roundels and legacy-inspired nose art using a combination of paint and decals. The same stripes were applied to Allied aircraft in 1944 prior to the invasion at Normandy so the planes could be easily identified, avoiding friendly fire incidents. The nose art, designed by Stanley with suggestions from other Airmen at the 123rd, features a unicorn and lightning bolt on a yellow field. It’s based on the heraldry and squadron patch of the 368th Fighter Squadron, a World War II-era unit with ties to the Kentucky Air Guard, he said. The new version adds invasion stripes and a dark green field as tribute to historic fuselage markings on the 368th’s P-51 Mustang aircraft."

me and my wife did the 75th anniversary and saw loads of great displays both on the ground and in the air, and I even got to play my bagpipes in front of the tank at dead mans corner and got a but thumbs up and a wave from one of the houses opposite. we went to loads of events and I have to say that its not until you have been to Normandy do you realise just what really happened on that day. the images in the museums don't hold back either and are not afraid to show the carnage of some of the gliders that landed that morning in houses and in trees and the men that didn't survive these crashes.

Tragic that what is missing is the fighter and bomber aircraft of the era that are not part of this memorial service. We need to pay homage to all land sea and air services who all played a crucial role in the normandy landings, Let us all never forget all those who sacrificed their tomorrows for our todays

Killing a few Nazis only with his bayonet! A man’s man! Rest In Peace to the both of them. 🙏🥲🇺🇸💪 God bless America, NATO, our allies, Ukraine, countries that are friends of America and the free world! Thursday, June 6, is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of France to defeat Nazism. Very few veterans survive, but I was in Normandy for the 50th year observance, travelling with veteran paratroopers on D-Day Eve. I was supposed to witness airborne veterans parachuting from a vintage aircraft into a VIP area, but I decided to leave my space to a veteran, so I walked into Ste Mere-Eglise, the first French town liberated by our paratroopers, to wait for the parade- the ceremonial re-enactment of the battle- to assemble in the church square where the carnival of American television- Bryant Gumbel and Joan Lunden- were all broadcasting to the US and the world. As I moved through the mass of people to photograph the parade, I was overtaken by a surging throng screaming “Vivre Americain! Merci Americain!.” I kept saying, “Je ne suis pas une veteran!” but it didn’t matter. They wanted to physically embrace Americans today. I have photos of the parade. A line of mounted Gendarmerie cleared the path. The 68-year-old airborne veterans who had jumped again raised beer cans and cheered. Then- future Chairman JCoS General Hugh Shelton led combat-ready detachments of contemporary American paratroopers, fresh from the fight against Iraq. The victors of Desert Storm saluted the victors of Normandy with a triumph that would have paled Ceasar. The best light infantry of any army, anywhere, at any time in history, were feted by thousands of grateful, free people from around the world, their clamor to render all honors and glory to the airborne forces of the United States. On June 6, 1994, I was travelling with the 101st Airborne Division veterans’ association when we drove into Carentan, encountering the Fallschirmjager Regiment Six 50-year reunion. Fans of the tv show, “Band of Brothers,” will recall the battle to capture and defend Carentan. We were looking for the turn from the Normandy highway to Les Moulins, Omaha Beach, for the international observance by the heads-of-state of 13 D-Day countries. We missed the turn, driving past the German cemetery at La Cambe, where a lot of people were gathered. We drove on to Carentan for refreshments, before turning back to Omaha. As I stepped off the bus, I saw the green banner with gold Teutonic lettering, “Fallschirmjager Regiment Six.” I assumed they were at La Cambe, but when I opened the door to the restaurant, there they were. Elite German infantry, now 68 years, drinking and talking. I held the door for a Screaming Eagle who walked with a cane, saying, “It looks like the Germans are having their reunion, too.” “Just the ones we didn’t kill,” he muttered, a reference to the large tumulus at La Cambe. The sight of the Screaming Eagles patch on our veterans’ caps exploded like a hand grenade. Every German sprang to his feet and pulled tables and chairs out of the way with a cacophony of squeaking and scraping. Now I was wearing a trench coat, so I acted like a security officer, holding the Hun at bay. After 50 years, this band of brothers just didn’t want to speak with Germans.

@@levy511 w takim razie powinieneś zadać pytanie 'why without Canada and Poland?'.
