How is it these guys make something so complicated as keeping tons of craft in the air free from stalls and all else that can go wrong in flight seem so damned easy? Thanks to all of you pilots who over the years brought me there and back safely and without so much of a sharp raising of the hair on my back.(Only the flight attendants did that..and at one time, we called them "stews")

DSLeicester Yea I know. I talked to a pilot once and he said he enjoys taking the plane up by hand. He said he also loved doing manual landings and just using the ILS as guidance to bring her down. I like doing that in flight sim too. But in all honesty LNAV and VNAV could do it all. But whats the fun in that?

Exactly, I am not wasting years of my life in training and spending tens of thousands of pounds on my training just to end up pushing 2 buttons that does it all for me anyway. But AFAIK in my own experience pilots (at least in UK), like to fly SIDs and STARs manually... applying "LNAV/VNAV" after. Others may also like to get to cruising altitude by hand and descend by hand. Autopilot is also preferred OFF in bad weather, especially landings believe it or not.

Whats wrong with the guy on the camera he's allover the place zooming in and out from one place to another instantaneously shaking all over loosing focus,else could have been a great video if it was done nicely..

I hope whoever operated the camera isn't allowed behind the yoke of this airplane. A totally wasted opportunity to get some good cockpit footage.

Dat is dan wel heel erg toevallig!! Aardige man! Zeg dat maar tegen hem, heb ik iig zo ervaren... Zometeen van SIN naar DPS... Ik hoop dat hij weer de captain is maar zal wel niet aangezien ik hem niet heb gezien (Zit al een paar dgn in het KLM hotel in SIN)...

The approach briefing continued below 6000', wow'?!! I hope this not a normal company practice where it's definitely unsafe. All that chatter by crew should've been completed prior to top of descend at the latest.

Ramon Kagie Are you really that blind? Look at 8:35 the last aircraft from JAL, just pause the vid. When you have done that go look for a picture of the 787 and compare

I heard some companies landing with the engines on idle to save fuel and reduce noise. Like a glide landing. Is that possible?

from what i know, all companies have the engines on idle when they lose altitude. if the plane is going from 40.000ft to 15000ft for example they set engines to idle. but during the landing procedure they all use engine thrust to maintain the desired speed

When the plane crosses the threshold of the runway, before touchdown, the thrust is at idle to glide or "kiss" the runway :)

What is the minimum length for this airplane type 777 to have a landing ?

That depends on MLW Maximum Landing Weight, but typically commercial airliners would require more than 7,000ft to land and just over 10,000ft to take off , but also depending on MTW Maximum Takeoff Weight.

Jonathan Sarlo Not correct about the landing and takeoff. It all depends on weight. The length you are given is mostly for max. take off. And no airliner lands at max. weight.

CaptainArt777 That's most certainly true.....Planes can certainly do it in less, but orgs like FAA and other flight reglatory agencies restrict them in doing so to ensure the plane has enough room based on their weight (MLW or MTW).......

Jonathan Sarlo Your information is not correct. There are no minimum for planes as far as having to take off and land on certain runways with the lengths you gave us. They must meet the minimum requirement for the given weight at takeoff and landing. That is part of the check list before takeoff where they compute the weight versus aborted takeoff. Hope this help.

1:04 Out of the many bad zooms in this video is just.. ugh. Show us the A/P, I don't mind that, but then you start zooming out, and i expect you to zoom back out all the way to where we can see the pilots, but you end up zooming out HALFWAY, and start showing us the displays. Then you uselessly zoom into the altitude indicator, not allowing us to see the rest.
