Hi Tdous. I hope you enjoy watching the videos that you haven't seen so far. I can understand that some people don't enjoy coconut, or my presentation.. Each to their own, so to speak.

I recently discovered your tart vlogs and am enjoying watching them. i live in the states and have my Yorkshire grandmother's tart recipes that I have made often. Your recipes are very similar to hers; maid of honours, coconut, cheesecake/raisin, and almond tarts. Watching you bake your tarts motivates me to dust off her beloved recipes and make a few batches. Thank you.

Thanks Geoff, great recipe!! For those of us in the States who cannot easily find custard powder, aside from substituting with flour like you mentioned Geoff, you can substitute with corn flour and add a bit extra vanilla to get the taste that custard powder would give. Always glad to see a new post from you! Wondering if you could do a Boston cream pie or Napoleon in the future. 👍👏👏.

Hi Diane, yes cornflour would work, as would vanilla pudding powder. If by Napoleon you mean Mille Feuille I actually have that on m blog, though without a video geoffsbakingblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/mille-feuille-with-chocolate-filling.html, so maybe it is about time to do that again. I will certainly make a Boston Cream Pie at some time, it is on my list of things to make.

These look lovely,,, my mother used to make them..... so another nostalgic recipe for me,,, I seem to remember she would put a teaspoon of raspberry jam in the bottom as well,,, she made jam a lot, so it went in and on most puddings, as well as bread... I see Bruce likes your shirts as well as my husband 👌💕❤️👍

I was just thinking that if you put a blob of jam in the bottom they would be the coconut tarts my grandma used to make

Hi Henrietta, I actually intended to mention that you could put some jam in but, as happens at my age I forgot. I did write about it in my blog entry for the recipe though. I would use raspberry jam in particular, but then that is my favorite. Yes, Bruce picked up on my inadvertent melding of food and fashion for this video.

Thank you so much Geoff for the brilliant recipe l shall go out to get some dessicated coconut this week and have a try at making these did you grease the tins or is there no need as pastry can possibly not stick quite the same as cake does ? All the best to you

Hi Pixie, I hope you enjoy the tarts when you make them. I did very lightly butter the tins though it really isn't necessary as they were non-stick and anyway the butter in the pastry should stop it from sticking.

Do you cover the tart tins when you’re refrigerating them right before preparing the filling or are they uncovered? Great video thanks so much can’t wait to try!

Hi Nolee I didn't cover the tart tins in the fridge, though it would be a good idea, particularly if you have and pungent foods in there already.

Geoff, correct me if I’m wrong but my grandad use to love these but they always had jam between the pastry and the coconut mixture. Am I thinking of a different recipe?

Geoff with the filling could I use coconut milk instead of normal milk. Do you think it will be too much coconut flavour?

Hi Gemini I. I think coconut milk would be fine, I don't think the flavour would be overpowering.

Can I use vanilla essence as I am unable to get vanilla extract where I live ......how much vanilla essence would be needed please?

Hi Melanie. Yes vanilla essence will be fine. Just use the same amount as specified for vailla extract.
