Sarde After Dinner - سردة

Sarde After Dinner - سردة

This Sarde is brought to you by our incredible patrons at / sardeafterdinner - Without you guys, there is no Sarde (after dinner). Thank you.
After almost 3 years since we had them over, the comedic duo from “Coffee Break” Nathalie Masri & Nadyn Chalhoub come back for another shot! In this #Sardeafterdinner, we take things up a notch with unconventional reflections on Lebanese and Arab quirks & a hilarious card game that left us (and will leave you) in stitches. Join us as we discuss:
-Farewell to Cafematik
-An honest conversation about young motherhood
-Movie Censorship in Lebanon: what is left for us to watch?
-The quest to discover what “Lebanon’s image” really means
-Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg - the Lebanese version
-Does the presidential vacuum really feel like a vacuum?
-The Coffee Break Card game: getting in touch with reality

Sarde (noun), [Sa-r-de]: A colloquial term used in the Middle East to describe the act of letting go & kicking off a stream of consciousness and a rambling narrative.
The Sarde After Dinner Podcast is a free space based out of the heart of Beirut, Lebanon, where Médéa Azouri & Mouin Jaber discuss a wide range of topics (usually) held behind closed doors in an open and simple way with guests from all walks of life.

This was a weird episode for sure. It didn't flow as well as the others and I think it's because Mouin and Medea didn't lead the conversation with their questions. It felt disjointed and recycled. Nothing really new to discuss, aside from their new set up, and no added value generally. It was easy to listen to and the familiarity between the hosts and the guests was sweet, but aside from that this episode came across as lackluster in comparison to the others. The guests also frequently cut each other off, Mouin and Medea often did as well, which gave the whole viewing experience a disjointed, tense and frustrating atmosphere. Looking forward to your other episodes, I'll definitely still be watching!

The beauty about Sarde is that they respect their guests' character. Coffee break is all about randomness and sarcasm. It felt more casual and less structured which is so nice for a change.

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to let us know your thoughts on this Sarde. We love it when you guys speak your minds in constructive ways to help us learn and get better at what we do. We’re always working on giving our community the best viewing/listening experience with each and every episode. That said, some episodes can bring different experience to our viewers and listeners, and that's alright. Hosting episodes with two guests instead of one is always interesting and challenging in a good way because they present a different flow than the usual Sarde's. This Sarde was one of a kind because what we love about Coffee Break is their funny, witty and sometime deadpan humor, and we wanted to make sure this is reflected in the episode…but we realize that may come off as different than the usual conversation format we have, especially for people who aren’t familiar with them. Happy to hear you'll still be watching! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts :)) Medea, Mouin & the Sarde Team

Was good episode, even not as good as I expected. Several very IMHO observations, but for sake of the fact: 1. Both sarde and coffee break are better on their own, episode felt kinda overstretched 2. Surprising mention of Lex Fridman, y3ani mn jerankoum, so would be nice to dedicate whole episode to extracomplicated matter of using products mn jeran, following podcasts and etc and same time fighting Israel at least on some fields, guess it's a hard stone to pick, if not sarde perhaps noone) 3. New editing and stylistics of video making it more like top trendy videos of EU and US, however some charm is gone Thanks for your work and don't stop

45:20 its more about their mental age and development rather than the age gap , an 18 year old with a 30 is much more problematic than a 30 year old with a 42 year old , also misogyny plays a big role in not seeing young men with older women as victims because how can a woman be the abuser?? grooming is disgusting and evil no mater who's doing it.

Super fun episode! However, I don't agree with you guys on the Arabic poetry gentrification. (not saying we are far from a sexist community and the need to set proper social balance and consciousness) In Arabic, removing the Vowel (Harakat) at the end of a word lets the audience associate the gender the listener wishes to imagine. Especially if you are speaking in absent tense. In poetry, as we all know, writers have more freedom to tweak linguistic rules to deliver an exaggerated feeling to the audience. And of course, keeping in mind the musical aesthetic sense. (I also don't see the reason Médéa suggested as a convincing reason) Remember that MOST of the poets in the era of Abd el-Hakim were men. Technically speaking, poets were 99% reflecting on their experiences with WOMEN . (1% for undercover homosexuals and bestialities to keep this comment gender-neutral) The conclusion is that we need more awareness to detect proper sexist cultural norms in order to cure the issue. Rather than using it everywhere like a "rub-it-in-your-face" marketing strategy.
