“The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them. But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling. The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the "smiling" fox." - Malcolm X

I beg to differ on Colbert. Colbert acts like he is from the "left" whatever this means in an US american context. But the reality is that he is as arrogant and ignorant as the right wing bigots. He is against "racism" but promotes for instance PURE RUSSOPHOBIA. He does not just critizise the russian government wich would be totally legit, instead he makes fun of the fact that normal russian people have to suffer the economic consequences of that war and the western sanctions. His running gag after the invasion of Ukraine was "Is potatoe". If a right wing idiot had made the same potatoe joke about russians Colbert had called him racist for this. He is a hypocrite. The problem is that is audience is as hypocritical as he is. If someone would make a joke about black people eating watermelons it would be a scandal and a "racist stereotype" but when he makes fun about russians eating potatoes its suddenly a complete different story? You can't have it both ways! You either reject jokes based on stereotypes or you don't reject them. But critizising others for jokes based on stereotypes while you make also jokes based on stupid stereotypes doesn't add up in my books. Also Colbert makes fun off lesser eductaed people, of poor countries and of course of the working class. He represents everything i hate about the US "liberals". No economic criticism, no criticism of the Democratic party even though everyone with a working brain can see that they are often as corrupt and ignorant as the Republicans - pure black/white thinking without ANY shades of grey. Also he - like most so called "liberals"- sees western culture as superior to any other culture while at the same time he critizises the right wing ignorants for their "white privilege" and racism. And that is the problem with most of these formats. They don't critizise the system, they just critizise the wrongdoings of one side of the system while totally ignoring the other side. The only "liberal" hosts i respect are Trevor Noah and John Olliver. Noah, because he did not only talk about right wing people - he talked WITH them. Also he did not have this typical american arrogance because he was not american. He did not just made fun of the conservatives - he tried to understand why so many people still think that way or support people like Trump. And John Olliver because he makes a very good research and explains economic connections and things that are unjust in the system while still being funny. Also Colbert and Noah are not nearly as self-righteous as Colbert.

The right-wing aberration of Republicans didn't start with Reagan; go back to Nixon--and I mean the late-40s Nixon, playing the anti-communist card against Helen Gahagan Douglas; take it back to Senator Joseph McCarthy's black list; take it back to Senator Bob Taft's Taft-Hartley Act that crippled the union movement. Eisenhower was the last good Republican president. Roger Stone got the ear of President Nixon and promoted that southern strategy that used bigotry against blacks as a reason to vote for republicans and set in motion a Ponzi scheme of emotional othorization of out groups. But like all Ponzi scheme games that tends to work better in the early days. The GOP has had to get more and more outrageous to continue scaring the mega base to the point where now they're making a big deal out of trans people who are incredibly small percentage of the population, but they make it sound like your grade school daughter don't dare go into a public restroom. Vote blue up and down the ticket let's get rid of not just Trump, but also his enablers who would otherwise be in office in 2025 to help him pull off another attempt to steal an election.

I think it started from doctors and parents talking about palliative care for severely premature babies and other babies in NICU suffering from disorders or deformities and were dying painfully. In some cases they chose to "let them go", as in stop trying to keep them alive with drastic measures because that was just prolonging their suffering. The conservatives do this all the time. They take the tragic, obscure circumstances of a small number of people and twist and warp it to fit their agenda. One percent truth, 99 percent lies. And they feel justified in their lie because of the tiny speck of "truth" buried inside their mountain of lies. It was never about wanting to be allowed to kill already born babies. It was about being allowed to let already dying newborns pass away without unnecessarily prolonging their suffering.

Liz Chaney did the right thing. Stephen Colbert had a good interview with her. Just got her book for Christmas and looking forward to reading it. Trump's going down for the corrupt, liar, Putin Want To Be that he is.

I’ve thought that the reason why she came after Trump so hard because he negatively affected the bottom line of whatever military contract she was most financially attached to.

IMO her real beef with Trump is that if he becomes dictator, it means she can't get in that office herself

It shouldn't but it can be found. The same leftists who fall for anti vax conspiracism can fall for anti Jewish conspiracism. I've encountered it out here in California and in upstate New York.

She says she pleadded with the party to not embrace fascism, but Colbert seems to know it's roots are much deeper than a phase. She wants her cake and she wants to eat it too, but it's not cake, it's fascist goo now.

Stephen Colbert helped me survive the trump presidency and the COVID lock down and isolation. His political insight and ability to incorporate comedy in explaining what's going on has really benefited me. I also really miss the comedy of George Carlin. I watch his videos on You Tube and what he talks about is still very relevant to our current political situations. RIP. i'm glad for Colbert and Kimmel who reach people who otherwise would not be exposed to any news.

i don't think that's the case. i hold a belief that she has had to look inward and know the mistakes she's made supporting trump and the party as she did. she lost her seat because she stood for the country and not the party. give her some credit. not saying she's a savior, but she's earned some national credibility for leading the january 6th committee and the indictments that have been handed down.
