There are better options. Of course, there will always be greedy, selfish, power-hungry a-holes, out to take advantage of a system that lets them - but few countries in the developed world are quite as bad as the US.

Time may have passed, but their lives have stood still. Should they be punished for risking their lives to save someone else's? They deserve the best care and attention that America has to offer.

To be fair, the room was more than half empty. It was that way because it was a subcommittee meeting being held in the room used for the full committee. Only like 1/4 of the members were supposed to be there, and almost all of those were there. I'm not sure Jon actually understood that at the time, though he did give one hell of a speech.

A politico article broke down the situation and one of their main points was that only a dozen or so of the full 40 something committee were supposed to be present, and that Jon most likely misunderstood this. McConnell likely just finds it easier to mislead everyone rather than try to explain the truth. "We're busy" is simpler than an in depth explanation about the difference between subcommittees and full committee meetings.

As far as this issue, I feel bad because I heard jon speaking in Congress a few months ago if I'm not mistaken, but had forgotten about it until I caught his heart wrenching speech live last week or the week before. And hes been at this for years if I'm not mistaken. So its upsetting that it's taken this long, and on a personal l level, its upsetting that I had heard about it and forgot about it :-/ Major props for jon choosing to spend his freetime fighting the good fight :))
