I genuinely envy Stephen because, as a friend to John, he gets to keep in touch with him. I’m not pretending that just because I watch his show or have seen his public face that I know him but... I can’t help but feel like even if you genuinely got to know him there’s just something inherently _likable_ about him. The no bullshit mentality, the willingness to call anyone and everyone out on their hypocrisy, the way he seems to legitimately care about others. I’d love to have a drink with this guy.

I would guess that Jon has the same idea at least part of the time. It's gotta be hard to have an outlet like he had and then go back to being quiet on his farm during the worst Presidential term in history. I believe Colbert when he jokes about drinking more. I think all of us need an outlet for the horrors we see on the news!

Literally had the exact same thought. In the last week I found myself actually kinda longing for the days of Bush (he was simplistic, an idiot, ignorant, but not cruel...). I saw a Jon Stewart meme and I just really missed him, he had this ability to lessen the anxiety (in a way that connected with what he was saying, even though he had a team of writers behind him). I would be surprised and appalled if Trump wins 2020, I hope by now there are enough Republicans who actually hate him enough to vote for another candidate, and the democrats get their s**t together. Or maybe, there might be more than two distinct choices one day. Crazy thoughts.... (BTW, I am Australian, I don't even live in America, but the politics of the USA have this knock on effect around the world, so I feel that a bit).

Dani Kbob I'd go with Jon on this one, in that with Trump in charge, we're now "acting as an Axis power". Most likely because Putin's pulling the puppet strings, and wants us fighting with our allies, especially NATO. The more we're fighting with ourselves, the better he does. I'm just glad Trump was so hamfisted in his machinations (particularly in his treatment of our intelligence agencies) that he triggered the Mueller investigation. Just wondering how much "foreign influence" rot it will expose in our political system (at this stage, I'm guessing it's a lot, can't wait for the clean-up process!).

Like the old white men in control of government and the Republican Party? How about the Parkland teens and Sandy Hook parents who were accused of being crisis actors as a counter example? No, the blame lies with the generation in power who is seeing it but is too scared to fix it. If you're calling for Millennials to do something besides protest and vote, you're asking for violence and assassination attempts. Very few Millennials are in positions of power. We haven't reached that point. Yet.
@caroline10081
@caroline10081 6 жыл бұрын
I'm just stating a fact by saying old white men are in charge. Look at the photos. It also does not have to be all or nothing. Power can and should be shared. Social media affected the last Presidential election. Its effect will only increase as people learn to harness its power. For all I know, you could be a real commentator. Or you could be a paid troll. That is where we're now. Some Millennials are billionaires because of social media.

JmZKarma I have, and there are things that I think he has done that have had benefits and I’ll give him credit for those. That doesn’t change the fact that as a net total though most of his policies seem to be driven by spitefulness and fear. And if that is not in fact the case, then he’s done a terrible job in how he carries himself to project otherwise. At the end of the day all that is immaterial though, because of the numerous, demonstrable ways that he has impacted various facets of the country that have caused tangible harm.

So true. I read somewhere that's why JS walked away from the Daily Show... he was so angry and couldn't find the humor anymore. I'm grateful every time he, Stephen, and everyone else channels that pain into powerful comedy and commentary. It's one way of speaking truth to power that our spineless representatives seem incapable of doing.
