My dog and I took our Bike Cabin to the headwaters of the Mississippi River in northern Minnesota! We take a look at this iconic river's humble beginnings, enjoy the forest, good food, a fire and some cabin time.

Listening to you.pray and giving thanks brought back memories. I'm 74 with 5 siblings. Our family of 8 said grace before every dinner. At bedtime our parents came to the bedside of each of us one at a time and we said our night time prayer kneeling by the bed. I neglected to maintain these important traditions with my own children. In fact I'm ashamed of my neglect. Thank you for the special moment in your video.

I raised my two sons as a single parent from 4&5 yrs old - I read the word out loud to.them often - They both been married over 15 yrs now - I attribute things like that from reading the word out loud as I read it -

That's neat that your posting comments at 80 + yrs old - I'm 68 and my son's tell me I'm to old to be in the woods cutting wood and hauling it in the truck home and splitting it with an axe - I hope at 80 I'm still cutting wood and burning it for heat and hot water -

I’m impressed that she listened so well. A dog that loves the water doesn’t always listen when told to leave it. I’ve seen way too many people allow their dear pups to go out in thin ice, not thinking it’s as dangerous as it is.

I recommend putting a heat shield on that stove so your bag doesn’t catch fire when you rub up against it at night, especially when you’re asleep.

I had similar thoughts. In addition to a heat shield, using wool blankets would help be safer (they won't either melt, or explode into flames, like many other fabrics will). And I would put in a carbon monoxide detector, though the bike trailer probably isn't totally air-tight. But other than that, done safely, the wood stove is great!

That tiny cabin really is remarkable, giving you the freedom to overnight at remote, unspoiled locations, and a cosy home-from-home wherever you set it down. Respect! As a child growing up in England, the word 'Mississippi' was on every spelling test at my school. I've been to America a few times, but never once visited the state or river I was taught to spell correctly at a tender age! Thanks for sharing another adventure with us. I've been to the Mississippi River around the Guttenberg iowa area. It's beautiful. I'm from fort dodge iowa so it was an easy drive east on highway 20. It's been a few years since I've been to the river and I can't wait to get back there.

My family use to camp all summer. A tent the first two years and then a small trailer for two years. My Dad traveled back and forth on weekends then took his two week vacation. Such great memories, fishing, hiking, board games. If you can, take your kids camping. I will always love the time we spent during our camping summers.

When Hank Williams Jr recorded his song, A Country Boy Can Survive, he started it with, "The preacher man says it's the end of time and the Mississippi River she's a going dry" and I couldn't picture how that could possibly happen. But here we are. Hank was just 30 years or so ahead of his time. It's amazing that what you showed us is the "Mighty Mississippi". I think that "humble beginning" is actually a lot more humble than it was a few years ago.

Please dont get mad at me! Ive seen your video pop up for a while and i thought i dont want to watch that. It popped up and cut on tonite so i watched it and im glad. Its been one of the best video ive watched in a long time! Your lil house is the neatest thing and im am amazed at how much room you have in it and i was realy amazed at w h at all you have in it and you make it look like a huge mansion the way you do everything s I smooth! Im fixing to start on a 4ft x 6ft trailer to pull behind my truck cause i wouldnt get out of drive on a bicycle. I just want to say Thank you! Take care and Happy Trails my friend!

Nice trip. The head of the Mississippi reminds me of my neck of the woods where we have the head of the Hudson River at Henderson lake in the Adirondacks. Of course Hudson River is only 400 miles to New York City harbor.
