How’s it holding up now? I absolutely love this knife I’ve wanted it for years I was going to get a timber rattler Bowie at first but now I can afford this knife that seems to be significantly better, I love the cutlass look it has to it, there’s a sword by cold steel with a very similar look my friend had it but they’re the same price

Just to clear some things up about the Cold Steel 1917 Frontier Bowie. Got mine last summer and I love the big muthering knife. Hell I'm wearing it right now. As for where and who made it. It is made for Cold Steel by Windlass Steelcraft of India. They do a pretty good job, except most do not come with a good edge.But that can be fixed if you know how to sharpen a knife, or know some one who does. This is a BIG knife and primarily made to be used as a weapon.

Good to see a lefty using a bowie,man.can it throw,oh yes it can.Im going to begin cutting a bowtie style throwing knife from spring and this is close to shape I'm using for the big one.they make that nice twist when you throw and spin in the release.peace!or else :)

Lefties always get the shaft on reviews. Some blades are just right made and it's up to me to point the southpaws into the right blades! Haha! I love throwing the biggins. I just put up a video of a dagger I made that took me a minute to get to turn right but I can toss it now.

I'm in Australia so mine came blunt as all hell. Tried sharpening it with a 220grit whetstone moved up to a 1000 then 6000. Still not hair shaving sharp. Any tips on how I can get it there? Thinking of buying a honing rod for it but I'm not sure if it'll make the difference vs just having a second go at it with the whetstones.

so how is the edge on this compared to the kabar big brother? i saw this video now i have to choose between the 2, i trust your opinion .Either one would be used as a self defense knife.
@DonnieBAllDay5 жыл бұрын
I don't envy you. I wouldn't be able to choose. But if it's a pure fighting knife? I'd choose the Natchez Bowie. The edge on the 1917 though is hair splitting fine. Pretty even with the Ka Bar in different ways. The Natchez is a bit of both.

yo donnie what would you suggest.. the cold steel or the Case bowie????
@DonnieBAllDay5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you want it for and how it will be carried. If it's going on a belt as a camp knife, the Case. If you're putting it in your pack and you really need to decimate a family of small trees, the Cold Steel. Also think about your conditions. If you plan on it getting wet daily, the Case may be better.

Do you know what version you got? I ordered a high carbon 1085 version.. up to 1090... the ppl say that a 1055 version exist too. Do you know what they are talking about?
