Cold-War Bike by Ural Sparks Sidecar Revival

9 жыл бұрынUral Motorcycles are Soviet-style sidecar motorbikes that have been made in Siberia since World War II. But in 2000 a group of Russian entrepreneurs led by Ilya Khait bought the brand, left manufacturing in Russia, moved headquarters to Seattle, and began marketing the bikes to young riders with discretionary funds and wanderlust. Bloomberg Pursuit's Hannah Elliott went to Seattle to try out one of these cold-war relics. (Video by Zach Goldstein)

I have a 2019 CT, live in semi-rural Ontario Canada. At 78 this is as close as I get to being 20 again. Solid machine, very comfortable, I ride with confidence every time the sun shines. Sidecar is handy for carrying the wife, grand-kids, golf clubs or groceries. Should have become an owner when I turned 65. Wish I could add a picture, the red/black combination is a real head turner.

We watched this back then when the video was posted, 2015 The year our Patrol was made, one of the videos we watched back then that made us buy one ✅ Haven’t seen it since then, until today... But we have been watching David George’s maintenance videos out of there...😎👍

I love this video, I love bikes and side cars but I've never owned one ☝️ you can ride all year round so it makes sense , My cousin was a T T world Champion on side car unites , held the fastest average lap of 109 m p h in the 70s .

@@Fafnir33 Дело не в холоде, у меня в далеко не самой большой деревне мы насчитали 17 штук, кто на рыбалку, кто на охоту, кто дрова, кто грибы и т.д. на них таскают, видимо это отголоски 90-х, не было магазинов с запчастями или находились очень далеко, а интернет-магазинов тогда ещё не появилось, сейчас уже полегче не даром они в цене подскочили, я так думаю.

I would like to get one I'm disabled unable to use my right leg securely so the tank shifter and the side car would make it able for me to ride bikes again.. now if only I could get one financed with my monthly disability pension.

+Khadijah Brown KPL on carburetor ones is about 8 liters/100 km. With direct fuel injection is about 6.5 l/km.

As I understand, the special editions based on the cT and the cT model itself are all 1WD. The Tourist, GearUp & Sahara are 2WD. In Pacific NW, price for the cT starts $12.9K; 2WD models start around $15.5. Every model is customize-able. So yeah. Quite an investment, but if you look at Honda Goldwings, any Harley other than a Sportster, or a trike of some kind, $15-20K isn't all that bad. And it's all metal construction! :-)

FR I guess the new Milwaukee 8 engine from Harley is old tech. Water cooled engine, 4 valves per cylinder, less vibration, higher torque and horse power does sound like old tech.

FR your getting technical after you totally blundered by saying HD has old tech meanwhile they released a completely redesigned engine. Keep overhauling your bikes, noobs like you wreck them at 50 000. Riders that maintain their HD and ride them responsibly keep them running over 100 000

IMHO I don't like modern urals. With their swingram frontfork they looks weird. I'd rather prefere older ural's model as M-63. Anyway thank you for the magnifercent video!

Not quite. The Chang Jiang is a copy of the pre 1959 version of the Ural. Ural upgraded the motorcycle and factory in 1959 and then sold the tooling to China. The CJ's are closer to what Ural made during the war.

Had a 2004 Ural Retro, totally cool looking but, ----- also totally unreliable and slow, 45mph was tops and spent more time in shop than on the road. I got rid of it and have been on a Harley side car rig for ten years. Now I hear that Ural has updated and is reliable, may try it again.

Good luck with that. I don't think Ural makes a sidecar-less version anymore. There was the Ural Retro. You could take a Classic and remove the tub because it still has standard forks which are easier to ride without the tub on. But you should ride with a sidecar on it, it's a hoot.

ride it through the ocean surf, its totaled in about a year., no matter how much you wash it, salt will eat it alive. Too nice a bike to ruin, driving it on salted roads and beaches. It will kill a great bike in short order.

It's a shame they've become so stupidly expensive now, putting them out-of-reach for most people. Always happens when vehicles achieve 'cult' status, look at the Air-Cooled Vee Dubs. The rich kids throw so much money at them that the 'ordinary' people they were originally aimed at don't get a look-in . . .

John89616 Не такие уж и бешеные, Харли стоит около 20, и технологии не 40-х годов, так например на современных "Уралах" ствят инжектор, если карбы, то "кейхин", генератор "Денсо", тормоза "брембо", аморты "микуни" и т д . Увы, чудес не бывает. )

Сергей Косухин лучше бы "мотор-коробку" сделали или заказали у кого нибудь новую, а желательно несколько разных, и не оппозитных, и по типу хондовских. вот тогда я бы первый начал орать во все горло по поводу и без, где надо, где не надо что урал - отличный мотоцикл, почет ему и слава.

This is german WW2 concept, literally stolen form Zündapp and BMW. After the war, Soviets exported entire factories to Siberia and started making the same exact K75's the Germans rode during the war, clones. I like the URAL bikes, but please, credit needs to go where it belongs. This is a 100% German design and concept of a military motorcycle.
