@@TheBonsaiZone You could get some potter's clay and make a casting of the stone's base. Enlarge it a bit by wiggling to allow for approximately 10% shrinkage. if you were going to tie into a pot make sure to add some tie holes. i have done this successfully.

A really enjoyable video. I guess Dave was the only one who took out a beauty of a trunk, Maybe one day I'll see how it's developed. Dave has a great collection too. Short comment here from Denmark (so please excuse my spelling and weird wording) - read it as well meant comments. Really nice video Nigel. Love the atmosphere you have on the trip. However, I must say that I would never dig up yamadori as shown in the video. Light debris in the tree, yes, but to tear it up before you have dug around - never. The anchoring of the tree on the backpack looks very unstable and could potentially destroy important roots. Wrapping the roots would stabilize and prevent evaporation. However the tree was wonderful - it will definitely make a great bonsai. Again I really enjoyed your video.

Is the size you decide on collection only decided by the size? Or if it is small and old would the roots be too long/established?
@TheBonsaiZone
@TheBonsaiZone 10 ай бұрын
You have to decide if the tree can be collected successfully! When collecting you are looking for a tree that mother nature has done much of the work for the tree to become miniature!

It's wild no matter where it is the large disgusting rodents called deer are destroying any thing with in reach. They are so over populated. The first thuja or chamacyparis you dug should have had so much more green on it. That said at least their in the woods in this case.
