lol, that's my problem too.. Sometimes a deal just isn't worth it from a financial perspective, but then I look at the cards as a collector and I'm like "ok, I'm in"... I have a difficult time separating the business aspect of the hobby from the pleasure, and it's gotten me into quite a bit of trouble throughout the years.

I love these stories and the number break down because I send a screenshot of the numbers to my buddies when they hit me up saying stuff like, "Yo what if we buy this collection for this $$$ and then flip it etc etc" Most people truly underestimate how much money and time it takes to make these deals pan out in your favor. Would love to to ask Jeremy some questions if you two decide to do a video Q&A!

Wow! Do I ever appreciate the honesty! I would have absolutely no patience for that kind of a deal or work. It's a hobby for me. The amount of hours @ 6 wks work may be a bit low if you figure how much time was also spent at the National plus travel time - wear and tear - mental energy.... But, as said, a great experience to share and something like that is priceless.

This seems like a worthy investment in maintaining your presence as a dealer. I don't collect sports cards but i play magic the gathering. Even as a player collector, you can build up a reputation as one to easily B/S/T with, and it can be quite useful to keep your name floating around.

My experience is booth sales of any kind tend to be more about community than making any money for booth sellers. While you think you didn't pay "ebay" fees because the seller, thus you the buyer too, have to pay for booth fees. Not just booth itself- travel, hotel(OMG how expensive these are at any event), car rental, and time all for you AND the seller. Where these start to make sense are massive quantity stuff that can be obtained and offloaded to a small handful of buyers on a regular basis. This is just my experience in doing Gemstone shows like in Tucson for many years. We end up making connections and going straight to the mine to buy which is always better than going to a show. We always agree the people making the most money are always the shows/hotels/city while we barely make much from the show.

You estimated a 70-90k yield. In the end you even got lucky with the high end 90k. You should have stuck to your initial max price to pay. On the other hand, aside from the relatively low reward on 6 weeks of work, you did manage to also build your name, grow your eBay store and increase your client base.
