The rarest MacBook I currently have is probably the 2008 13" Aluminum non-Pro MacBook. It was that weird one-off generation between the 2006-07 plastic MacBooks and the 2009-10 unibody plastic MacBooks where Apple made the standard MacBook out of aluminum. Always felt weird that they only made them for a few months before going back to plastic. Maxed out the RAM, put in an SSD, and used OCLP to get Monterey up and running on it. For its age, it isn't unusable, but it's definitely not fast by today's standards.

I have one as well and also the 2008 15” MBpro both running Monterey via OCLP. Tried Sonoma but that does not run as well because of the lack of Metal drivers.

We've got the 2016 MacBook 12" and it is still the main travel machine (8 years on). It's an excellent computer for light work, and we even have done some lighter design work with Illustrator and Photoshop on it when the main machines (14" MBP M2Pro and 5K iMac) were not nearby. It's still one of the most beautiful and very pleasant laptops to use from Apple. If only they reworked this design and released another base MacBook with an M3 or M4 chip, there would be a lot of willing buyers of these machines.

It's shocking how much lighter and smaller the 12" is versus the modern Macbooks. I have a 2016 12" and it's is the perfect size and weight for a couch / travel computer. My biggest wish is for Apple to reintroduce it with a modern processor and keyboard.
@keithstrickland6311
@keithstrickland6311 20 күн бұрын
@@weezintrumpeteer I agree with everything you said. This would be amazing with an M3 or even an M1 chip. I think this would hurt iPad and Air sells though. Why would a person need both, if they can buy this? When traveling, the only reason why I keep this and my IPad is because the iPad is an M1 and I can write on it when I need to. But if the 12’ was faster or had better port selection, I wouldn’t have both of them on me. Most people wouldn’t buy an iPad if they have this.

Great video. As someone who really likes his Macbooks, it was interesting to see someone's take on a collectible Macbook. I generally agree with your list. I'd also add the last white plastic Macbooks for their much better plastic design, and the fact that they are the last of the plastic Macbooks. I'd maybe also add in a version of the 11" Macbook Air. Just bought one of those myself for playing around with. A 2011 version. Anyway, great video, really enjoying your channel.

I got a free 2010 MacBook Pro 15" from my professor, top spec and now runs Monterey on an SSD. It works alright, but gets pretty hot from doing nearly nothing. I expected a little bit more out of an i7, 8GBs of RAM and a decent graphics card. Trying to save the GPU from it dying someday by redoing thermal paste and regulating the fans to push more air.

I would say another good contender is the late 2010 MacBook Air, aka the first release of the MacBook Air that you see everywhere. The 2010s had core 2 duos which the 2011s and later had i series CPUs in. Also the 2010s lack backlighting on the keyboards, along with an eject key where the power button would be located on later revisions. Plus they have the lowest storage and RAM options of that entire generation with only 64gb for storage and 2gb of ram.

I feel very lucky that my max spec 2011 17 inch mbp still works great. I use a program called istats menu to give it a much more aggressive fan curve and keep it cool in hopes i can keep using it for a few more years. Though its starting to have trouble with program support. Just recently discord stopped supporting it and other programs i use such as bit warden require me to use an outdated version. It may be time to put linux or windows on it sadly...

Rarest MacBook I have is a 2011 17” with a perfectly working ATI GPU. Bought it untested for $50, and have put it aside as a collectors item … will disable that GPU before using it 😳 . Have a 2012 15” unibody, my first new MacBook … haven’t bought anything newer due to the non repairability. A computer that may one day be on the rare list is the mid-2010 13” MBP. It has a Core 2 Duo (in 2010), and the chipset itself is nVidia, and it supports 16GB of RAM - difficult to find other core 2 laptops that can take 16GB (the 2009 17” can only manage 8GB)

One of the rarest MacBooks would be the 12 inch MacBook with the newer gold color found in current M1 MacBook Airs. This color was only available for 12 inch MacBook from October 2018 to June 2019 where the 12 inch MacBook got discontinued. Both the fact that it was only available for 8 months and Apple introduced it really late makes this color quite rare on 12 inch MacBook.

Please don’t destroy me, but I got rid of my MacBook because I realized that I could get a iPad Pro with an XDR display for much cheaper and have Face ID and 120 Hz overall, I think the MacBook, especially at the price that it is really is kind of outdated when it comes to the hardware especially when you compare it to what you can get for the same price from an iPad. I know the iPad is limited and kind of outdated when it comes software, butan XDR display is so much better than LCD and 120 Hz is very smooth and overall a much needed upgrade for the regular MacBooks at the very least plus getting an next to the display on a MacBook is extremely expensive unnecessarily so

I have a 2008 15-in MBP with an SSD and 6 GB RAM. That has my favourite keyboard of all time, being pre-chiclet. I've just erased a 2020 M1 MacBook Air which I'd bought the following year as an Apple Refurbished device. This is the base model with 256 GB storage, 8 GB memory, 8 processor cores and 7 graphics cores. A solid and reliable machine let down by memory swap issues. It was replaced four days ago by a Midnight 15-in M3 MacBook Air with 512 GB storage and 16 GB memory. Also in my collection is what I consider to be the worst Mac laptop of all time, the 13-in MacBook "Pro" from 2017. This stopped charging reliably in late 2021, prompting the purchase of the M1 MacBook Air. The 2017 alleged Pro was purchased because my 11-in 2014 MacBook Air with 512 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM got wet inside and I wanted a laptop with a Retina screen. Evil butterfly keyboard, weak 2.3 GHz dual-core i5, Iris 640 graphics and 8 GB of RAM. It had needed a replacement top case due to damage from being dropped. It's dead and good riddance.
