My 2019 mac only gets 5 hours-ish in reality. Very frustrsting considering Apple's lies. My M1 gets about 12 hours

I managed to squeeze over 13,5 hours from my Macbook air, but it was back in 2021 when laptop was still very new and fresh. Mind you though, that I had to reduce screen brightness, sound volume (which isn't that high already) and use as little of the machine power as possible. Still - that is impressive result - my phone can't get that much of a performance with screen and wifi being turned on at similar brightness level :D

I bought a mid 2020 MacBook Pro with an Intel i5 back in November. I’ve never owned a MacBook and I fell in love with it; however, it would constantly overheat (even as far as overheating and getting really hot while connected to a tv playing KZfaq). I recently sold it and used the money to buy a base m1 MacBook Pro. It’s like the m1 MacBook Pro got rid of my main problem from my Intel MacBook which was heat/how powerful it was in return. I can now say that it’s the best laptop I have ever owned.

Thank you! I feel like I’m always learning something different with your videos( not the typical ‘should I buy this or here is my review of this..) . This may sound crazy, but I currently have a mid 2015 15” MacBook Pro. I love it and would keep using it forever it could last- I think I’m attached to it! These days, I only need it for basic tasks and it doesn’t leave home. I know one day I will need to replace it. Ive only ever had pros ( 3 or 4?). For some reason I’ve always thought of MacBook pros as being longer lasting and sturdier ( or something!?), and I don’t mean in regards to being supported by apple updates of course- that would be the same. Do you think that MacBook pros would typically have a better chance of being used for a longer time or is that just ridiculous? lol Thank you so much again- and love the humour you throw in your your videos!

The longer, the better, also for the environment. And if Intel-based MacOS really gets totally unsupported without the important security patches, you could install a light-weight Linux, or even a "normal" Linux. Or even ChromeOS. Perfect for light-weight tasks.

Something you could add now that we have long enough data observation : reliability. The 16” is known for its fatal flow design on the ssd controller ending with an epic 12v instead of 3v loaded into the poor SSD and causing instant death. the M1 on the contrary, aside “regular” ssd failure is not known for such design failure and has generally “better” reliability opinion. I’m saying this because buying a 4.5 years old 16 MacBook Pro could be like buying a ticking bomb which can fails at any moment.

I wonder if the M1 and other M’s 16” have the same fatal flaw as the 2019 version… if so that would suck. I’m going through so much time and videos to see if its worth buying a M1 Max MBP and its good to see videos so that I can know what to expect and to prepare as best I can for any issues… even if those issues aren’t repairable. Now I’m hesitating buying that M1 Max and instead go for a beast PC build/pre-built
@darksol544
@darksol544 3 ай бұрын
@@rafaelacash7 The M1 is redesigned regarding this weakness. The issue was that the guilty SMC controller was too close to the fans hence humidity and heat created excessive use. As the M1 doesn’t have any fan and is no longer based on intel architecture the issue is no longer present. This being said M1 have their own issue especially with excessive RAM allocation to the SSD (especially the 8gb) which leads to drive death after sometime 2-3 years. They are plenty of videos on KZfaq from Louis Rossman or other channels which explain the issues between the two models and how to limit bad surprises with the M1 (usually answer is take the 16gb RAM and 512 SSD as minimum). For the 16 intel, if the issue occurs only solution is to replace SSD and the faulty controller (it costs of course), if issue didn’t happen yet, replacement of the controller only and protect it with coating tends to offer decent protection for years. You can check yourself and make your own idea and of course a lot depends how people use daily their MacBooks. I’m not making any publicity for any of them simply inciting people to research and document themselves before they configure their future machine =)

Valuable insights. Appl is so ethical nowadays by lowering 66% of the lifespan of its new gen devices by saving 5% or less than $100 in its BOM cost. No 256/8G models should be made or sold.

I like this channel. You're talking very intelligently about these products. I walked into a busy coffee shop the other day and saw nothing but MacBook Airs and I'd be willing to bet that at least 80% of those were the M series. It is hard to even grasp just how popular these laptops are among students, designers, entrepreneurs, developers and quite frankly everyone else. I am also using one and just can't get enough of it. It won't burn a hole in the desk when running 3 IDE-s, 2 phone simulators and 5 containers, yet it is lightweight and actually a third in price than a higher end machine 3 years ago.

Really really lovely comment. Thank you. Yeah I think the buzz around M1 ETC. spread so quickly, people needing new laptops for university or new jobs just went out and bought them, then the word spread I suppose… I do think the right move is buying the cheaper Air models if you’re not using the GPU a lot.

The 15" A1990 and 16" A2141 are a pox on humanity with their ridiculously high failure rates. They are by NO means the most important of the Apple Intel notebooks simply because of how many of the damn things become paperweights. The previous A1707 fared better with logic board reliability, but still had that AWFUL butterfly keyboard that still sucks even after the Apple redesign. You have to go back to 2015 to enjoy any sort of upgradeability and overall reliability on an Intel MacBook Pro. Status: Currently daily driving a 2016 top-spec A1707.
@montaguebarnabasltd

Important individually? Perhaps not. Significant and catalysts for big changes? I think so. It’s true they have relatively high failure rates, and I’m not singing the praises of the 16” 2019. It was a landmark for MacBooks, though.
@TraneFrancks
@TraneFrancks 2 ай бұрын
@@montaguebarnabasltd I'll grant that they're landmarks, but I'm of the era of PC builders and Mac users that pines for the days when Macs of all stripes were upgradeable. I think the step to Apple Silicon is fairly game-changing, But the A1990 and A2141 models hurt more than they helped, IMO. But glad to engage in friendly discourse and generate some engagement for your video and channel.
@montaguebarnabasltd

@@TraneFrancks Broadly I do agree with you. It would be far far better if we could have both the upgradeability of last decade and the performance of M1/2/3. I think too many people choose to keep an older Intel machine without realising how much it’s slowing them down, though. If you’re prepared to take that risk, then it’s a great stand against Apple to keep a laptop so long. Apple Silicon granted me a super power in video production, though. I’m simply not able to create content half as quickly on my 2012 or 2015 MacBooks. Always appreciate the feedback! Thank you for being constructive lol.

@@montaguebarnabasltd Life's too short to be negative online. Discourse is great. Disagreement is fine. Disagreeability for the sake of being right isn't gonna help anybody. 🥰 On my other channel, I'll say that making a 4K 60FPS video that's 5-10 min. isn't all that hard in iMovie on the 2016. I expect that were one using ProRes and the like, it gets much harder. An iPhone SE 2nd Gen as the camera + iMovie and the 2016 doesn't really break a sweat. If I ever up my video game, I might really benefit from an M3. It's attractive, largely because of how much I detest the butterfly keyboard. (I use a Magic Keyboard when not mobile.)
@TraneFrancks
@TraneFrancks 2 ай бұрын
Oh, right. The other reason that the 2016 has hung around so long is that I have a whole passel of Intel-architecture VMs that I run under either Parallels Desktop or VirtualBox. Since I can't run Intel VMs on Apple Silicon, it's a big impediment. I have legacy software that I need to maintain, so having Intel around is necessary.
@ZhuJo99
@ZhuJo99 19 сағат бұрын
Choose Apple Silicon. It's obvious. And the comparing GPU by using OpenCL,which Apple doesn't use and does not further improve is misleading at best. M1 Air will be much more powerful in video etc because of unified memory and dedicated video units. Intel machines have their days countered and only idiot would buy Intel 2019 Macbook pro these days. Those machines become unsellable on eBay the day Apple Silicon came out. Currently running M3 Pro MBP and even that M1 Air kicked the Intel's ass pretty much.

I have two 2020 13" MBP's one the last Intel Variant for work and the M1 13" my personal device. Really day to day stuff the performance doesn't differ that much. But you do anything intense on the Intel one and I end up having to boost the fan speed so the temps don't get insane. The biggest difference is the battery life really, I don't think I've ever worried about the battery on the M1 unlike the intel where it just chews through it even just doing stuff like teams calls. I'm still running a 2018 Mini as my work machine but even that is showing its age and I'm hoping to replace it with an M3 Studio once they get released.
