Great video-as always. We used SL trains in hill country (near Candy) so our experience (crowds) and travel options (food at stations, Chinese-built trains) was a little different. So definitely interesting to see yours. Those ‘classic’ 🤔 SL trains were identical. Don’t recall if the bathroom had western or swat toilets however-the scenery was too beautiful to give up on our trip. Looking forward to your Galle video. Cheers. 👍🏻

Such fantastic scenery and I loved the pretty, well kept stations in every small town and village. We'll be showing the train journeys from Ella to Haputale and from there to Kandy later on. ❤️🚂🇱🇰

Hello Dave, I hope you get over that flu soon. I'm sure it'll blow over eventually. 🙏 Short eats is most certainly a Sri Lankan thing. We hadn't heard the expression anywhere else but everywhere there. It means all the small snacks you find for sale. Mostly fried things and samosas. Cheap and delicious! 😋

Hi M&L, Taking that train is an experience in itself. It's like travelling back in time. I dunno how to explain but It has that vibe of them 1980ie adventure movies. The landscape / scenery is a treat for the eyes... Enjoy your weekend, take care 🙋🏻♂️

Hi Sergio. 😁 Yes the train rides are always an adventure here. I could do them every day. 😂 The landscape is always beautiful and varied in Sri Lanka and this one is in particular as it follows the coast all the way down south. You get a peek of life in all the fishing villages along the way and plenty of it on the train too. 😍 Here's to enjoying every moment of every day! Have a fantastic week. 🙏👍

I'm sitting in my home, Adelaide, Sth Aust. reliving the train journey last July to Hikkaduwa .. had to stand the whole journey, but talked to interesting locals all the way .. return I paid $5 Aus. first class to Colombo (blue train), it's like a airline seat but with more leg room and fell asleep because of air-conditioning .. Enjoy, Enjoy.

You can get reserved seats but I believe you need to book online. Highly recommend!

I love your travels and train rides if only Sri Lanka invested on reinventing its principles and priorities to make these trains better it will bring them a huge bonus surplus, I’ve been on a rundown train in Czech Republic way back when in my teens and the toilets also had a hole going outside, I was amazed imagine if someone got stuck or dropped there items through it. Whooops! lol 😂 Anyway I hope Mandy is recovery is going well and I hope you’re doing okay too Lee. Wish you all the best M 😘

Thanks so much 🙏 We really love riding the trains here. I remember when I was younger in UK the trains used to have the toilet hole straight outside too. They also had opening windows which you could lean out of which was so much fun. Now they are hermetically sealed and sanitised and no fun anymore. I much prefer these type of journeys where you can stand in the doorway with the wind in your hair and meet new people. ❤️. It's great that the price is low also so is accessible to everyone. 🙏❤️🇱🇰🚂

We didn't find any. It's worth checking some of the Facebook groups where expats contribute information. Apparently there is one bank that does it but we couldn't find it.

Just a bit curious, or maybe confused - did your Sri Lanka trip take place before or after Mandy's surgery?

Hi Blissful. A great question, and thank you for asking. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Sri Lanka, and had the mammograms, biopsy and full body check atvAsiri Hospital Kandy before cancelling our onward flights and returning to Perth. I wanted the videos in my Journey to Wellness series to be running in real time but it was difficult at first editing and sharing them with everyone. I'm hoping it's not too confusing for our viewers but I'll always put up the dates on my Journey to Wellness videos so people can follow the timeline. Lee's currently editing the Nilaveli/Uppuveli video, which is when I actually received the email from the screening team in Perth. We didn't mention it in the video, but it's quite surreal for me to look back and see myself pre- and post-cancer diagnosis. ~ Mandy
