Before and after photos from the renovation of a two story colonial in Bergen County, New Jersey - style is Transitional. UPDATE OCT 2016.

Love the living room, what is the dark gray wall paint?

Thanks! Paint is all Benjamin Moore. In order of appearance: Living room/stairs/hallway: Galveston Gray (really like this one, a beautiful neutral but not bland. It's gray with some warmth) Dining room/kitchen: Smokestack Gray Master bedroom: Van Courtland Blue Tub bathroom: Soft Chinchilla Nursery: Grege Avenue Small bedroom: Ozark Shadows Shower bathroom & Sun room: Manchester Tan (a nice light beige, but different enough from white that you get contrast) Family room: Greenbrier Beige (not our fave, a bit too green) If we could do it over again, we'd pick about half as many colors though for simplicity's sake!

The renovation was nice, but it didn’t feel colonial to me. It was more modern feeling. But it still looked lovely.

@@irenelopez3235 The current trend attempts to be colonial. The wainscoting is from derived from the column footing height on greek and roman temples. The colonial stuff harkens back to the classics and this is actually a great example of the Federal style. The reason this one looks off is because the proportions of the chairrail height to the rest of the room are off. It is way too high on the wall and should only be about 1/5th the way up to be in alignment with The Golden Ratio.

Love the staircase going down before simple walls and after with wall molding... gorgeous .. what brand type of molding are those?❤️

Thank you! Molding was custom by the contractor. Spacing is three and a half inches

Yes, we just handled it ourselves. We had our contractor use his draftsman to get the plan ready for the city and they pulled the permits for us.

With cabinets, I often feel a good sanding and paint job with new pulls will have an equally pleasing aesthetic. I hate to see them demolished when nothing is wrong physically with them. I wish more creativity went into kitchen and bath makeovers to keep cabins from the landfill.

What’s with the horrible security door on the front? There are other choices that don’t scream “bad neighborhood”! Very unappealing.
