Join me as I talk with Cormeshia, a stage 3 rectal cancer survivor that was diagnosed just before COVID-19 hit in the United States. Learn about how her treatment plan was a little different from mine and her latest project to try and get more BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) colorectal cancer patient stories represented on social media.

Cormeshia is wonderful and optimistic person! Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing your history! I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer as well. This interview is enlightening! I trust God is looking after me and I'm very confident!

I got a colonoscopy back in April and we had to pay for it out of pocket because I’m only 46 years old. I just saw a commercial yesterday that the CDC now recommends people get a colonoscopy at 45 because of the high incidence of colon cancer in younger people! And one instance I am pissed because we had to pay thousands of dollars for this test but on the other hand I’m also relieved that they’ve changed the age to 45 bc it will help out so many more people. Great content and great channel, keep up the great work!

I got my 1st coloscoply on 3/10/23, at the 45yrs, but I was the one who had to bring it up to my practitioner and she give me the referral

Unbelievable that the GI doctor let this beautiful person go nine months without having a colonoscopy. I don’t care what age, gender, or color someone is a colonoscopy should be performed with someone with these symptoms, it’s a matter of ruling out. If the GI doctor had not let her go for nine months it might not have metastasized to her lungs, which actually upgrades to stage 4. She gives the best advice I’ve heard considering CRC, especially concerning radiation therapy and vaginal atrophy, my radiation oncologist never said a word about seeing my OB GYN or using vaginal dilators during radiation which resulted in the inability to have a normal sex life. I’m a survivor of stage 4 metastatic colorectal cancer. All I had was a bit of bloating from time to time and a little bleeding which as someone who carried twins I thought it was from my hemorrhoids. My PCP did a colonoscopy and it was stage 4 CRC.

Just wondering if you had to get surgery? I'm just going through this now and about to get more testing, I believe I'm stage 3 with possible lymph node involvement, however the mri will most likely confirm it.

@@merchseller Oh, Lord yes. A lot has changed since I wrote that comment. They found 'abnormal cells' because I demanded a scope with a camera exam. (January 2023)I opted for a permanent bag (I had IBS and knew I wouldn't be continent) and a Barbie Butt. (March 2023) Surgery was rough, but I healed rather quickly. Went in for a CT and MRI checkup (May 2023) and they found tumors in my lungs. Chemo again 10 x. Tumors shrunk quite a bit. Checked again in March 2024 and it had spread to my liver. Doing chemo again now (April-June 2024) Hoping the tumors shrink again. They won't go away, but hopefully can be controlled. Luckily, I handle the chemo well- FOLFIRI with Bevacizumab. Hope you're doing OK and remember: they are coming up with new meds all the time! My doctor said he has a patient with the same cancer that I have who is still living after 10 years! I don't think I'll last that long, but I was able to attend my daughter's wedding in April. I just keep planning trips (that can be canceled) and enjoying my life. You should, too.

I keep thinking, colonoscopies should be part of screening early on, starting on the 20's . Any discomfort in the gastrointestinal system should be investigated with scopes no matter the age of the patient.

You might be on to something. They're not as cheap as a doctor's appointment, but if you have to go in over and over to a doctor all those repeat visits and tests might end up being the same cost as just doing a colonoscopy.

Hey Jelena, I have been following you. I finally made an appointment. with the gastroenterologist.gastroenterology. I have lost a lot of weight and feeling super tired a long with the other wonderful symptoms. I live by myself and my family is not close by. I am going to re-read your vlogs. My journey is very similar, only I had my treatments in a different order and ended up with a permanent colostomy while going through a very big surgery. I still have a nodule in my lung that most probably will also be surgically removed and I hope that after that I get a break from all the treatments and surgeries!

Thank you for sharing your story. I love the idea of naming it. I’m stage 3c rectal cancer and starting chemotherapy and radiation in a few days and after all these treatments for 6-8 months I will have surgery to remove my rectum, maybe my entire colon (colostomy bag for life) and maybe remove my ovaries and uterus since one of my ovaries might be affected).

Colonoscopies should be done earlier than fifty years old,a lot of young adults are being diagnosed with colon cancer,in their 20ties and thirties, unbelievable.Let us all trust in the Lord for healing and directions of our lives.❤️🙏

Hi girls. Good interview. I’m a 55 year old man and I’m on the same situation and stage, after the reversal I have not been well, going on 3 weeks after reversal and I feel sick at times and restroom visits still 10-15 times a day. My poop smells different and small pieces. I’m worried about possibly leak or something else.

Have you been in for your follow up with your surgeon yet? I would check with them about what you can do to slow things down and/or bulk up your stools so more comes out when you go to the bathroom. They may suggest something like Metamucil to help.
