Today I’m covering the symptoms that I experienced leading up to my Colorectal Cancer diagnosis. I’ll share with you the timeline of when those symptoms popped up and what was tried to attempt to fix them.
If you’re experiencing any kind of changes in your body (and it doesn’t have to be potentially cancer-related) here is the list of important things to keep track of for talking with your doctor in order to help figure out what is going on:
1) when did the symptoms start
2) is there anything you do that makes it better or worse
3) what is the quality of the symptom or pain (such as is it dull or sharp pain, is there blood in the toilet or in your stool)
4) if there is pain, does it start in one place then radiate to another
5) how severe is the pain
6) how long the symptoms last
Here is the link to the site I mentioned in the video on the rise of Colorectal Cancer in young adults: www.cancer.org/latest-news/st...

My original symptoms were a little blood in my stool, but it was bright red. Then I had horrible stomach aches and vomiting at the same time. When I’m really knew something was horribly wrong, my stool was getting thinner. This all happened very fast. It was only a couple of months before I could not go to the bathroom at all. The tumor was 7cm and taking up 90 to 95% of my rectum.

I'm a 32 year old male, back in 2018 I went to Cabo for a week and a week or 2 after I came home I began passing gas with bloody mucus as well. It smelled just like the restrooms there at the beach, I'm assuming I had just an infection or virus from the water. I have been battling severe GERD as long as I can remember. Did an endoscopy which came back clear, did a stool sample FIT test last year also which came back negative. I'm now waiting for my 2nd fit test and hoping for the best. All I can say is going Health was never even in the back of my mind until that episode of mucus and now I realized how important it is to keep up on that even at my age. Good luck to you and whoever may read this.

Thank you for making this video, I am experiencing a tremendous amount of bleeding and I am getting a colonoscopy and endoscopy next week and I have a significant amount of cancer in my family. My mother, father, grandfather and grandmother all passed from cancer either pancreatic or stomach cancer, both parents died of pancreatic cancer when I was young. I am sure that you can relate to the tremendous amount of anxiety. I am also a vegetarian and I have always tried to be extremely healthy because of my history. I don't drink alcohol or use recreational drugs. It is so scary bleeding this much and my symptoms are much like yours. I stopped taking my vitamins thinking that was it. I saw my primary care doctor and he dismissed this in March as hemorrhoids it was not constant bleeding at the time. Now it is constant and I am wearing my wife's maxi pad. I know gross. I am being screened for pancreatic and liver cancer as well and I am just praying. Thanks again and I hope you are doing well.

I did have a lot of gas (and still do 😬). The next few days are going to be really hard to get through...just try your hardest to stay in the present because that’s really all you have control over right now. Enjoy the weekend with your little ones as much as you possibly can. You can try to limit eating things that are known for causing lots of gas, like cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) and beans, and you can also try to limit the amount of wheat that you’re eating because that can irritate some people’s bowels. Hang in there!

My bowel movements have totally changed over the last few months, and before I need to go to the toilet I have very severe pains low down around the groin level of my tummy and extremely griping and loose mucusy bowel movements, quite a lot thinner and softer than how it used to be, can last for hours, then might not go at all then for a few days, in ghe back of my mind I think there's something wrong but too afraid to see doctor about it, in case it is something serious, also had a very bad experience once before having a colonoscapy as they kept me awake all the way through it and the pain was excruciating, so much so they had to stop half way though and abort the procedure. I have had that problem of being stress and anxious for more than a year that I have not been monitoring my toilet habits.. I have definately had more cases of diarhea that last year and stool was often mushy.. Then suddenly like 15 days ago I started getting a slight pain in my abdomen.. Sometimes central ,sometimes lower left side.. I have a ton of gas that makes me feel like i need to go to the toilet but I am not ready yet.. That feeling has increased the last three days. THe gas makes me bloated.. I avoid lactos and to much fat food. I have had slight issue with night peeing so I went to the doctor for that and just have my blood checked for PSA values and such.. But now I am much more worried about the stomac/colon problem. 15 days with symptoms that will no go away and no history of allergies or problems digesting any kind of food. The blood work will also check for hemoglobin values which was ok in early august 2023. I am really nervous.. One thing we need to adress. Is that we start talking more about gut health, toilet habits, and how the stool looks. Some say that they discovered stage 4 colon cancer with no symptoms.. My guess is that the person in question had a change in frequency of bowel movement and change in stoll consistency.

You're welcome! Sorry it took a few days to reply. So happy to hear you're going in tomorrow for your colonoscopy. You've done your part by making the appointment. There isn't anything you can do about whatever is (or isn't) going on in your colon, so just do your best to focus on what you can control like making it through your prep, deciding what to wear when you go in, and what the first thing is you want to eat after you leave from the colonoscopy :-) I'm on Instagram as colorado.jelena (instagram.com/colorado.jelena/). I reserve my Facebook account for people that I've met in real life because I have a lot of pictures of my daughter on there that I'd like to keep private. @@sgundam66 It came back them not finding anything besides hemmeroids. The specialist mailed me a letter recently saying they have been trying to get ahold of me to have me come in for another one and to do an extended cleanse but I've been feeling fine more or less than I've opted out of adding to my seemingly endless debt. I definitely had every last symptom of coleractal cancer but they seemed to think it was most likely internal hemmeroids they hadn't detected initially when I went to the ER. I havent had blood in stool or whatnot since over a month ago so I'm just tending to my diet. Try to ensure you're eating sufficient amount of fiber and eating a steady diet. The one thing I did before my symptoms flared was change from a meat eater diet to a nearly vegan diet. Within 3 days, I was shitting pools of blood and felt like I was dying for weeks. I reverted back to eating meat and I've been fine. I reverted to just hardly eating meat but not completely discarding it from my diet and AGAIN wolah, had a bad case of [external & internal] hemmeroids and some blood for a week. That was hell. My advice is try to get a colonoscopy scheduled just to get it set, and then focus on a high fiber diet starting now and if your symptoms clear up, cancel the appointment maybe, and if they don't, go have one done. They will want to do other tests before they even do it so scheduling sooner than later is best. My buddys mom has coleractal cancer and by the time they found it it had spread to one side of her liver. She's been battling for a year now and it isnt looking like its going to be a good outcome. So by all means take it serious. But try that high fiber diet idea. And don't change your diet dramatically. Be mindful of what you're eating and drinking. Mid 20s our bodies begin the process of being moody.

I'm petrified. For almost a year now I started having really bad constipation. I've had IBS all my life but this wasn't the same. Then a few months ago I started having foul smelling wind, loads of it and my stools go from diarrhoea to pebbles like a flick of a switch, literally I need to rush to the bathroom for diarrhoea then 10 minutes later I have pebbles. The bad wind has happened now for almost 6 months, also my stomach is bloated even when I've not eaten for days to try and give my system a rest. On top another massively worrying symptom is I'm sleeping 20 odd hours a day now and don't feel like I've slept at all, I've had night sweats and great thirst. Here in the UK my symptoms would involve blood tests which I have a phobia majorly of and will pass out and also the camera up, depending on the findings a emergency cancer referral if bloods come back negative. I don't recall if you said how old you are, but how did you get your doctors to listen to you enough to go forward with testing? I'm 27 with chronic gastrointestinal issues, including colorectal cancer symptoms, of which I have a strong family history on my mother's side. Unfortunately, I was recently laid-off and lost my health insurance benefits, but once I can afford to get back on, I hope to speak with a doctor about everything I've been experiencing, though I'm afraid to be turned away or have my concerns minimized because of my age. I've seen so many people share stories like that, where if a doctor had just listened to them, perhaps they could've received treatment sooner. So, is there anything in particular you said to get them on-board, or was your team super supportive from the get-go? On a similar note, did your insurance cover your testing and procedures? (Sorry if that's too personal.) I know a lot of companies won't if you are under 50, especially with colon-related things.

I'm 32 she said I was way too young to even need a colonoscopy. They ordered three different times stool samples. The pictures that I showed her from the toilet she thought it was something that I made up food coloring spaghetti sauce. As soon as I got into the GI doctor and explain to her what was going on and showed her the pictures she immediately had me going for a colonoscopy. Twice I had blood and a couple of times I had black/tarry feces. But I also had normal, healthy looking bowel movements too. I do have constipation, and I don't think I drink enough water. She recommended more water, more fiber and a stool softener. Hopefully that works.

I’m glad you’ve been talking with your doctor about these changes and had a FIT test done. If after a month or two of drinking more water and increasing your fiber you are still having issues definitely let your doctor know. A FIT test isn’t as accurate as a colonoscopy (hence why you need to retake every year, as opposed to a colonoscopy every 10 years), and it won’t detect if you have a different digestive issue that isn’t cancer.

I also get light headed and feel sick alot, i have generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks often. Also was just diagnosed with acid relux. Hi Joseph. I understand your fear about the colonoscopy, many people feel the same. But having answers as to what is causing your digestive problems may actually help your anxiety because then you'll know what it causing your issues and you can work towards alleviating them. Stage 4 is the highest colorectal cancer stage, but even if that is what you end up with, doctors can help treat your symptoms and try to make you more comfortable. At best, whatever is causing your troubles can be fixed with treatment. I actually have a colonoscopy next week and will make a video about the experience, so watch for that one on October 23. Maybe that will help you see that even though it isn't super fun, you can get through it, and take away some of the mystery of it.

About 5 months ago I had severe pain in my right abdomen so I went to the hospital and the doctors did a blood test and also and x ray. I was told that my small intestine looks very full and may be a little block so that's what's causing the pain. They gave me laxative syrup and pain medication and sent me home. The pain continued for about 4 days the pain meds were doing nothing. My stool was completely fine before but immediately after I recovered I became constipated and I thought that it was the amount of pills that I had taken,I once again started drinking the laxative and every time I went to the bathroom it felt like it wasn't all coming out like I would try to go to the bathroom and nothing would come out and I knew it wasn't constipation because it was a different feeling and I had been taking the laxative for days at that point. After that I started noticing that my stool was very small and thin and I always feel like it's not all coming out and it's hard to pass but its NOT constipation. Been a vegetarian but eat a lot of cheese since. Also, I had constipation almost my whole life. I'm 47, and I had told my fa new primary care physician my father had a lot of polyps removed. He’s 73. So that’s why she ordered me a cologuard. You know what it seems like such a fun thing with the box smiling on the TV. So I did and four days later I found out that it came back positive. Now I have bled a couple of times and I had one hemorrhoid but, I have a colonoscopy coming up at the end of July or the beginning of August. I’m so glad that they put you to sleep. Do you know why? I had one when I was like 20 fully awake because I was bleeding, and they found out that it was salmonella! I have no idea how I got it, but I did eat chicken back then. I’m scared because I smoked cigarettes for a long time. I quit and then this is what happens great right and let me tell you something that’s gross. I’m so itchy and, I hate it! Oh, and don't do anal like the current fashion of these days! Pray please? And, God bless this person!

Usually if you start experiencing symptoms and or pain do they get progressively worse or does it go back and forth

Hi, I am 15 and for what I’ve read it’s very uncommon for people my age to get this disease but I have been so scared of this lately, I also have a question, was the pain like persistent or did it come and go?
@SurvivorJelena
@SurvivorJelena 3 жыл бұрын
You’re right, it’s very uncommon at your age, but it can happen. I didn’t have much pain at all associated with mine. Keep a journal of your symptoms to bring with you to your next doctor appointment so they can help you figure out what’s going on.

@@SurvivorJelena Thank you ma'am but 2 more questions. 1. what symptom was the most frequent / which one stood out between all of them 2. what was the blood like on the stool (black spots, red streaks?)
@SurvivorJelena
@SurvivorJelena 3 жыл бұрын
@@nobodycares900 1) My very first symptom was the change in my gas and that one was pretty consistent the entire time until my diagnosis. Blood in your stool is never a good thing so that made me take the change in my gas more seriously. 2) The blood was like a streak down the side of my stool or I would see it in the toilet. It was red for me because my tumor was very low but for people with tumors higher in their colon, the blood can turn a darker color by the time it exits the body.

Hi I have a question did you bleed every single day while passing gas or having a bowel movement ? or was it every once in a while ? and did ever feel any pressure? I’ve been rectally bleeding for more than an year and it’s an everyday thing I have an appointment in few days and they are probably gonna tell me what I have and I’m so scared this problem started when I had barely turned 23

Hi Summer. The bleeding happened daily, but it only lasted a week or two at a time. Right before I was diagnosed it had been happening for longer, but only about 3 weeks. I hope you get some answers at your appointment🤞🏼

So where the probiotics beneficial in pre-diagnosis is a sense or completely unrelated?
@SurvivorJelena
@SurvivorJelena 3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I'm not sure. I have no idea if the probiotics caused the bleeding or it was just a coincidence. Now that you mention it though, they did bring about the most concerning symptom, and if I hadn't taken them I probably would have waited even longer to talk to a doctor and my prognosis could have been much worse.

They need to lower the age to 25- 30 mandatory colonoscopy especially if you have a family history. I’m glad I’m a health nut and got one done at 27 it really did save my life
