I don't gesso the paper first but you definitely could.
Today I'm painting an expressive abstract landscape with acrylics. Are you looking for ways to make your paintings more abstract? If so then you have come to the right place. I share my top 3 tips and methods so that you can paint in a looser and more abstract style.

I don't feel like I need to loosen up, but your techniques are fantastic. Love your markings. Learning to layer more, use less colors, and use bigger brushes to keep things simple. Thanks for being so kind and generous. Can't get enough. You are my favorite!

Thank you so much Laurie - I've really put my heart and soul and months of work into this course. Your encouragement made me really push forward, so thank you! Hi Lisa. The work I do on paper I don't fix or seal in any way. I just keep the pieces in my sketchbooks until I want to frame them under glass. Work on canvas I seal using satin spray varnish for acrylics.

Hi!! This is so gorgeous! Beautiful colors!! Those are great tips for what to work on...I'm trying to work on all of them for sure, but the last one , layering, is definitely something I want to work on because I love it when I see it :) I signed up for info about the class, just to have it. I know I've mentioned it but with covid, this last year, we've had really no work, so I'm not sure I'll be able to afford a class as of now, but I look forward to learning about! I signed up to also get the free booklet, but it takes me to a blank web page....but, I'll keep looking for it. I'm sure your class will go wonderfully and I hope to one day be a part of it!!! Thanks for sharing these...love them!! I tried a super abstract thing...where you've nothing in mind and just make marks🙄😳 so....painting in general may just be way beyond anything im capable of......but the need to keep doing it is stronger then my frustration with myself, for now, so, I'll keep working on it :) but, its also teaching me what things I do or don't like as much. And while total abstract is fun and I'll keep at it to learn, I do realize I love your type of abstract even better, so thats cool to learn. Thanks again!!🥰 (I wanted to apologize if there are crazy mistakes in my note..I've not slept so my brain is a bit squishy😊 )

I often mist the paint with a spray bottle with water. And You can cover the paints with cling wrap or a plastic lid in between applications - that will also keep the paint moist for a longer time.

Jag tycker om din videos och din ideer! Min svenska ar inte sa bra, sa pa engelska har ar en 'cheap trick' som kanske ar en molighet att includera i en av din videos: When we paint loosely, often 'happy accidents' fall in bad places. For example, maybe a happy accident would make a good focal point, except it falls in the center of the picture. A cheap trick: crop. (Chop off a side/sides of the paper/canvas.) After cropping, maybe your painting is even finished. This trick might be too obvious to even mention--if so, my apologies. Thanks for generously sharing your wisdom and advice!

Absolutely baffled and bewildered. you spend all the time working on the sky; working in the colours, painting, wiping--then in the end you smash a knife full of white all over it and bury it. What is going on? I will never understand this style of painting. very odd.
