OMGOSH - FINALLY someone explains exactly WHERE the shadow goes in a systematic way, I wish I could give you 10 likes ;) Color theory I get, it is very scientific and direct, but light and shadow is so wishy-washy, and having someone explain WHERE you put down shadow and WHY you put it there is what I have been searching for everywhere. Light is SO hard but you really helped me make a huge stride tonight! Thank you!

I've read several books, but watching something develop it into a real piece is far more useful, especially is there isn't a tutor who can show how, when and where something has gone wrong. I'm inexperienced, a novice, but I'm not unintelligent, just struggling to understand enough to put theory into practice. I got a lot from this video. You explained the color wheel and color mapping better than anyone I've ever heard discuss it. I actually understood for once! And thank you SO much for sharing the great tip about how to move the eraser when creating highlights. I dont know how many times I have done a super fast streak of white with my eraser and completely botcheded my highlight rather than make it look more realistic. I love my electric eraser because it is capable of removing so much more color than a regular eraser, but I apparently didn't know how to use it properly til today! Your ribbon almost looks like it is literally off the page. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful tips and knowledge with those of us who are not yet pros, but strive to be great colorists/artists.

This is the first tutorial I have seen from you and ive just hit subscribe. I'm bored of being lazy and colouring my books in solid colour when I spent my school years learning how to shade properly. The colour theory is great, I'm a qualified hairdresser and you told me things I didn't already know just in one video. Especially how the indigo with the red will always be a safe bet. I learnt alot more about contrasting colours for colour correction and mixing primary colours to make different browns and warm colours. Thank you so much I enjoyed every second x

I've only recently started in the adult coloring craze & I have to say it is not as simple as it was when I was a kid!😃 I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who has trouble with choosing colors that go well together. I've been coloring for about a year now & still find that I'm having difficulties with it. Thank You so much for the tutorials & the tips that you provide in a manner that can be easily understood by ALL. I was beginning to think that I would be forever coloring pictures in the same colors that were in You Tube coloring tutorials because I had such a hard time choosing on my own. Hopefully in time & with lots of practice I'll be able to overcome this issue!!❤💛💚💙💜

I strongly believe it is nurture that makes one an artist. All children are inherently artistic; I have never met a 5 year old that says "no, I can't draw" when presented with crayons, paint, any art materials really. The ones who get the gold stars and their picture hung up, parents who buy them supplies, and encouragement continue that and go from merely juvenile scribblings to what adults see as art. As teens and adults, our insecurities and drive for perfectionism interfere. I was lucky enough to not have that creative spark go dormant (in spite of an art teacher in hs that was insanely discouraging) and am very into colored pencil work. I have progressed immensely in the last 10 years, not because of a inherent ability (ie nature) but because I haven't stopped drawing, practicing, and exercising that part of the human nature in my self). I have tested my theory about nature vs nurture in regards to artistic ability on an adult (she was 22, I was 26 at the time) and we sketched out pumpkins and used the 1 light, 1 medium and 1 dark color method to shade them in.) When we were done we switched pictures, and went out to my brother, his friends, my parents and one of their friends. We asked what they thought. First they asked if my friend actually drew that, since it was "well known" that she was not "artistic in any way, and can't draw a stick figure" (her words, not mine). They just looked at the picture I had (I was holding the one she drew) and were like, "We already knew you could draw well so we aren't surprised how well you did". She surprised herself and I firmly believe that if she stopped saying to herself "I can't draw" and just kept practicing what she learned that night, that she could have been an artist just like anyone reading this. We all start the same, some people merely practice and continue that and develop it further than others. "Artistic" is a mindset.

atI have found my new coloring HERO!! You are simply AMAZING!! How am I just now finding you and I have been into adult coloring for the past 7 months and I have watched TONS of You Tube videos on all coloring techniques, hacks, tips, and tricks, and everything else related to coloring!! I just finished following along to one of your videos coloring the palm tree leaves the one with the color combinations of Sienna brown, white, peacock green, apple green, and chartruse and it was an eye opener for me! No, my leaf doesn't look any where near as good as yours but it's definetly one of the best I have colored. I have NEVER been into art however 7 months ago I was trying to find activities for my 11 year old daughter and I to do together and we started coloring. Seven months later it has blossomed into my first set of 150 Prismacolor colored pencils and some Johanna Basford coloring books, along with hundreds of other mediums and coloring books. I am so into color theory and learning all about the color wheel and all the different types of colors, which colors complement and contrast each other, and all the coloring techniques. However when it get past the tertiary colors my brain can't seem to catch on and hold onto and hold onto the rest. I did purchase a color wheel and I REALLY want to learn how to use it and when to use it. Your videos are soooo informative and I love the way that you teach and your voice is so soothing and really creates an environment so inapt for learning!! i really would like to know if you have videos on how to use a color wheel and basic color theory so maybe I can get it to stick to my brain!! Because if I can learn all these things as well as the best blending, highlighting, shading, and layering techniques my pictures will turn out so much prettier, I just know it. Over the past 7 months I honestly haven't had that much time to devote to coloring due to some family issues, but those are beginning to resolve themselves and I have more time to color!! Yay for that!! You may as well say I am a truly beginning newbie at adult coloring as over the past 7 months I've only been able to complete 3 whole pictures. I've been able to do a few little things here and there but I really want to start getting whole pictures done. I've basically practiced on leaves, branches, and a few flowers. I did get the chance to color a very small birdie I turned into an Eastern Bluebird, that was fun. Oh and I've colored a few apples, grapes, and blackberries in Johanna Basfords Secret Garden . But, any ideas, tips, tricks, videos that you think would help me I would truly appreciate it. And thank you so much for your teaching, time, and effort you put into helping us all out. I have been trying for so long to learn how to figure out how the light source and shadowing work I am still learning. But the way you explained how you know where to put them where thing cross or come together.....It was like one of those ah-ha moments! Thank You So Much for that!!! The only part was what would be the reason you would say for putting the shadow at the ends of the ribbon (the points?) and also on the middle bottom part?? There is definitely more to adult Coloring than what you realize. I want to learn how to smooth out my work. I see so many on the FB groups. Everyones is so smooth and neat.I'm Intermediate. Because I been drawing for years. And always used colored pencils. But you can always learn more...Indigo Blue is very pretty. I try to use colors close together....💖

Maybe I'm weird. But when I was a Teen. I still loved to color. And if I was home sick from School..🙄...I always had to have mom get me a coloring book and crayons...lol. Was so happy they came out with Adult Coloring Books. And I do teh same thing. If I'm not feeling good. I want to color. I know I'm odd. don't judge....lol.

Very well explained,but those colour wheels ,they can be so complicated for people like me ,thankyou for doing these very informative tutorials.

Prismacolor are the only pencils I’ve replaced and I use them until they are too short to sharpen about a half inch.

Where can I get a copy of the ribbon to practice with?

So are highlights usually the part closest to you?

I am now thinking of making a color wheel with my pencils, I am a complete beginner and it’s hard for me to know which pencils make a good light, middle and dark range
