I have had several requests for a basics tutorial. For those of you that have not started coloring and for those who are beginners wanting to advance. This is for you. I will cover the basic supplies that I use and some extra coloring toys you don't need, but it's really nice to have.

Ah, yes, the music. Not just yours but everyone’s. It does not make speech clarity better. I’m 82, wear hearing aids and love to learn. When someone makes a speech, they don’t add music. Just my take on it. Your information, excellent. Oh, one thing. Inktense are not watercolor, they are an ink base. Your response time to questions is amazing. Thank you for sharing. A lifetime learner

Derwent Inktense is actually ink that is activated by water. The main diff in the Inktense and a water color is that once the Inktense is dry it will NOT reactivate if you add more water whereas a true water color WILL reactivate with added water. Inktense is great for layering. Thank for this very informative video! Your content is awesome!!

I just have to say I love how informative this video is. The cellophane paper is the perfect description for how oil-based pencils work. I wish I’d seen a video like this when I first started!

Nice video. I have been coloring a while and still learned something. I keep my prismacolors in a case like yours but they still end up mixed up. I usually end up sitting down with my color chart and fixing them every once In a while. I never though to write the numbers down! I will be doing that this weekend. I think the prismacolor 72 is a nice place to start. There are good sales on that set quite often. If the person likes them and wants to upgrade, they can keep them as spares. If they don't like them, they are not out as much money.

The one thing I DO like about the similar colors in the less expensive sets like Sudee is that if you use up one blue, there is another one so close in color that the set lasts longer because you don't have to buy a whole new set each time you run out of one color.

Such a neophyte when it comes to being a colorist -- only six months experience will do that to you! You have been a Godsend to this new found passion of mine! I find myself frustrated on most days, because it seems all I am able to accomplish is just staying within the lines. In the end I end up committing one fatal flaw which seems to ruin the entire page and hours worth of work. But your simple "basic tutorials" have added a breath of fresh air to my ongoing "addiction." Thanks for all you do!

Maybe Creative haven paper is ok to color for those who love to color with markers! :) I will not be investing in Creative Haven books no more...

A new colorist could even start with a 36 or the 48 set of prismacolors. However, I got a set of Crayola pencils that I did not think would be anything but cheap-o kids pencils, and I was really pleasantly surprised. You can get a lot of Crayola pencils for very little money, and it will give you the ability to begin things like layering and blending as well as putting colors together. I also have to say that I have my prismas and almost all of my other sets in the same kind of 'book style' storage that you have. Those are by far the best. I tried about every other kind before I found these, and I will never use anything else.

@dianekopperman3160
@dianekopperman3160 5 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why Bennett Klein uses such crap printer paper. It just cheapens his art. You'd think he would contract with a publisher who uses better quality paper. I know some colorists who even photocopy his art onto better quality paper before they color so they have good paper to color on. Regarding Creative Haven, I buy them all the time, just for fun and for my 4- and 6-year-old grand- daughters. Yes, CH is better when using markers and then blending with Prismacolors, so they at least look nice. They're great when you are just learning to color, shade, and blend simply because they are so cheap. Creative Haven is, I think, on a reasonable paper for it's intended audience, and it is important to have a range of options in both paper and pencils to satisfy the wide range of users.

@@pearlhammer9244 This is an older video and I can't find them anywhere either. Better pencils is the Amazon Brand. They match Prismas exactly. The larger set is sold out but they allow you to purchase it and then they ship when they get it in. If you have to get it by Christmas try Schippir Farbens. Excellen oil pencils and they sell stock for when you run out of a color. Both much better than Sudee.

Would you consider doing a color-along in Floribunda? I love that book!
@ColorMyWorld
@ColorMyWorld 5 жыл бұрын
I have one "How I Met Your Father". I love Floribunda. I have one picture I am about half way through with but I am not sure when I am going to finish it. I am working on a color theory video right now and then a detailed texture video. This pretty much means I'll be due for a color along after that. The problem with Color Alongs is they take so much time especially in books like Floribunda. Next week I want to do pumpkins. LOL tis the season!
@bethcrawford4896
@bethcrawford4896 5 жыл бұрын
Color My World I saw that one. BTW, I LOVE, LOVE story time with Puff! But in that video you just color. What I mean is, talk us through. Why are you choosing those colors together? Why you are putting your highlights and shadows where you are? I know you’ve mentioned color-alongs bore you, but for us newbies it helps to understand all the theories in a practical application. Maybe even use different media. I have the Derwent Inktense pencils but I’m terrified to ruin a beautiful book with them. Anyway, just a thought, it may not be your preference. I love your coloring!
@ColorMyWorld

You gave me a good idea. I have a half done picture using one of the models (You will learn about color models in my color theory video). It's half way done but there is plenty on page left to do. I can walk you though the rest. This way it it's not so long. Floribunda is very detailed and requires me to pick up pencil after pencil. It's very repetitive. So this may work exactly as your asking me. It may actually be better to put that before getting into texture. Great suggestion Beth!!!

What do you use to put names or numbers on pencils? 😊
@ColorMyWorld
@ColorMyWorld 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't do it with anything but sharpie. If you use stickers they get caught up in the pencil sharpener and the blades get trashed. At this point I can just look at the pencil and know what it is from the color, but if you are having trouble seeing though the foil lettering (I do) get a magnifying glass. That helped me.
