Thank you for joining me on this frigid day out in the woods. I wanted to show you a quick release knot that you can use to secure your ridge line without using toggles, tensioners or carabiners. When you want to secure your line or need a knot that holds and releases fast, the slipknot is the way to go and It’s a useful knot to know that has many applications.
I also wanted you to learn from my mistake. Make sure your gear works properly before you head out on the trail and always have a backup plan. Test everything before you go. Had I been hiking on a mountain or camping out and I didn’t have a backup way to boil water, I could’ve been in trouble. That can of fuel I intended to use, failed and I still cannot open it, it’s like it’s welded on so it may be a defective can. I’m glad I had an alternative way to boil and cook food.

You should receive the package on Tuesday. You will want to use a wind screen when using the stove. There are plenty of KZfaq videos for DIY wind screens. Aluminum baking pans make good screens.

hi Marlo. the temperatures have dropped dramatically and today is 18 degrees but feels like zero. I like hearing the ice and rain fall on your tarp at the end, this was last weeks storm right? stay safe out in this colder weather, you don't want to get frostbite. I really do enjoy your outings.

Well next trip you could at home first open the sterno where you have tools then manually close it by hand and then when your in the field it will open, I tell you once the weather drops below ten it's quite a different game any exposed skin once it drops below zero you feel the pain with in a minute or less and if their is wind omg what a nightmare it's brutal, it's all about layers of clothing and the right gear just to go outside lol have fun man you crack me up every video with some of the things you say so we get education and some fun.

I used sterno the first time I tried this stove and that footage was at the end but i wanted to use the camp heat canister which is liquified gas. I definitely should of tried to open it before I headed out and that was the lesson I learned but I don’t give up easily so therefore… the fire. I had on so many layers, 3 pairs of pants, 4 shirts and my jacket & hat. The only thing cold was my hands.. other than that i stayed warm and felt fine out here. I had fun out here and my main goal was to show the slipknot ☺️ I appreciate your comment and checking this out. If it was windier than it was it would of been miserable for sure.

Hey Marlo! We've been in the deep freeze here too for days. The highs have been in the low 20's and lows from 11-9°. It went up to about 30° today, beach weather! 🏖😆 The slipknot is my favorite. It's easy to tie and facilitates quick take down. And you could have used that ridgeline as a zipline! 😆 That was a great reminder about looking up for trees that are leaning or otherwise look unstable. That's good advice for any time of the year. Also a very good reminder to always have more than one way to do things out there. I've never had a can of Sterno or anything similar do that. As you said, it does pay to check everything before going. I'm glad you had the smelter with you! 🙂A good set of glips helps a lot too! Never forget your glips! 😆 I have a couple camp stools identical to yours that are about 35 years old and still going strong. They've seen a lot of use and I really like how small they are when folded. It sure was beautiful there and I especially enjoyed the drive through the woods while it was snowing! Gorgeous! The final scene of just kicking back and listening to the sleet and snow fall with that view, nothing like it! ❄🏕🔥👊😊

Next time I run a zip line through the woods, I mean ridge line.. 😉 I’ll adjust the length of my cord. I used the entire length, lol!! My glips were no help at all either 😁 Its been freeeezin lately but i think were getting a break in the temps soon. The smelter definitely helped with the cold on this day for sure 🔥 I love this little camp chair but prefer the comfort of the other but didn’t want to mess around with setting it up. I love your comments my friend and always appreciate you. Thank you and have an awesome week 🫵🏻☺️❄️🙌🏻

Marlo C, another great video. What size is your rucksack in liters/cubic inch. Is your tarp a 10 x 10? Long rope for ridge line but never too much. I carry at least 500 yds of 550 paracord and at least 100 yds of #36 Bankline. Right, things do not always go as planned, trust me. However, that is part of Learning and becoming better prepared; kudos to you. And that is a lot of effort for a cup-of-coffee. But here, again, that's part of learning and enjoying Nature's Environment. You can't buy that kind of enjoyment in the store. Fuel tables, 1 or 2, doesn't matter; the main thing is that you were prepared and had them. And I am a Fire Connoisseur. There is nothing more beautiful in the Bush than a fire, hearing the crackling and popping of the fire and feeling the warmth. And I love your teaching method, step-by-step. Keep the videos rolling and Stay Safe.

Hey, how are you. I have a few backpacks and for this I used a 50 liter pack and yes the tarp is a 10 x 10. My cordage was super long and I just decided to run a super long ridge line but it wasn’t necessary. I basically wanted to show people how to do a slipknot since it’s an easy knot for a multitude of applications. I agree this was a lot of work for brewing a coffee but I was determined to have one and my liquid fuel was a fail so I wanted to point out that having a backup plan is a good idea. I agree, you definitely can’t buy an experience when out in the woods, you gotta roll with how things unfold for you. I appreciate you coming through to check this out and a big thank you as well. Stay safe out in the bush my friend 🫵🏻🍃🙌🏻
