I think the new colts are so superior over the old in every way! They have actually devalued in some ways the older models! I wish I could afford an older model so I could say I have one but if you’re a shooter you’re going to buy the new…period!

A very well done and honest review. I don't know how they could give away an old (original) Colt Anaconda from the 90's. The new Anaconda is so much better it's not even funny.

I messed with the old Anaconda way back when and it was an okay gun and I didnt think it could get better until I messed with the new Anaconda. Took me about 2 seconds to see how much better it was than the old.

The original Anaconda was one of the few pistols that was rated for being able to handle the Buffalo Bore Heavy Magnum loads. The new Anacondas are even more stout with a longer cylinder... It's miles ahead of the original model.

I just picked up my brand new anaconda 8" and im in love. Can't wait to get it out for the first time. Thanks for the good video

My first gun purchase was the new colt anaconda. I love that gun, looks great, feels great, shoot’s great 100% recommend also 44 magnum is a bit expensive but fun to shoot

Great comparison! Definitely agree that those old Anacondas weren’t made as well; my granddad had a 90s one and that trigger damn near felt like it had sand in it. Just put Rosewood Grips and the WC rear sight on my 2021 8” Anaconda. :)

Colt has a lot of QC issues. My anaconda I picked up Saturday, the barrel isn't level with the frame and needs to be turned a touch more. Even with the sights all the way to the right, it still shoots left. I love the gun though and just going to have it tweeked to fix it so it lines up

Really enjoyed your review. I am a big colt fan myself but i collect mostly guns from the late 1840s to around 1900ish. I have been told colt manufacturing was really bad from the 1980s to the early 2000s. I have seen custom SAAs and they didnt seem to be made as well from the 1980s threw 2000. I ask because if you got a earlier Anaconda do you think it would be better.

Did you only replace the rear sight with a Wilson combat? Was wondering if the factory front sight pairs well with the Wilson

Great video and comparison. I don't own a 44magnum revolver but plan on getting the new Anaconda. I eventually will pass it down to my son so quality is important. I feel 44mag is also a better stopping power to 4 or 2 legged creatures.

Nice video. I have a 6" old model Anaconda and both 4.25" and 8" new Anacondas. There really is no comparison between the new and old models. The new models are superior in really every way. That said, I was perfectly happy with my old model Anaconda having used it for hunting for the last 25 years and harvested many deer, hogs and even a black bear with it. It is also a very accurate revolver. With the WC front and rear sights (I prefer the green front fiber optic), the new revolvers are superior to almost any other double action 44 mag revolver available today. In terms of benchrest accuracy at 25 yards, both new and old seem to group about the same fired in single action. The old model also had many sharp edges on it out of the box and bothered me enough early on that I spent time breaking the edges with some 3000 grit wet/dry paper and Flitz. The new model does have one sharp edge at the top of the crane when the cylinder is open.

Where did you get those white grips from?

The QR code on the new one is a date stamp. It doesn’t take you to a website, but if you view the data from the QR code, you’ll get a manufacturing date

Hey Terry, as I mention in one of your other presentations I now have 6” 2021 Anaconda to go with my 1990 Anaconda(which I purchased in 1990). The cylinder on the 1990 looks larger, I will have to get my calibers and measure them both. I purchased the 1990 Anaconda in .44 Mag and .45 ACP, but I did a dumb thing and sold the .45 ACP later in 1990. Boy I wish I did not do that. The original 1990 grips felt like plastic to me. Back then Pachmayr made a very good grip for the Anaconda much better than what Colt provided. I still have the original grips but the Pachmayr’s are still on the original Anaconda. I must have an exception my 1990 Anaconda action is actually pretty good. I purchased mine when they were first available. Ricky from IBM

Just an update, the Anaconda is now offered in a 4.25 inch barrel besides the 6 & 8 inch. It is also available in a matte stainless, I also understand that they will be offering it in the Colt Gloss Blue soon like it's little brother The Python. 😊

8:00 less moving parts sometimes is quite amazing. And especially when they're not made in China.

I don't understand. I have the old Anacondas, a 6" and an 8", and both have a mirror-shiny finish. The triggers and hammer also mirror-shiny. No sharp edges like you described. There is minimal play in rotation of the cylinders. I am also considering purchasing a new Anaconda, but I wouldn't sell my current ones for anything.

Older smiths and newer colts are probably the best ones

Just picked up an 8 inch Anaconda. I'd heard that the new gun was better, but not by how much.

I strongly prefer the rear sight on the original. I don't have an original, but I do have the newer model. I have never understood the advantage of a blackout sight, front or back.

good camera work, the big boomer, would have been better in 41 mag. The older one of course has a few loads through it, and in 44 mag, that fear they would blow up with the cylinder walls thin.

I'm a millennial and a Smith guy. I never wanted a python for the weak actions and lack of parts. Bought the new python early on and I sold it early on, too. It didn't work as a combat gun, but had a great DA target trigger. I figured the anaconda and 22 Cobra would fit that bill, so I bought both. I was right. New anaconda and 22 king Cobra are awesome. They could use wood grips, though.

I agree 100% that the current anacondas are superior in every way, i have an old model in 45 colt which is a oddball and not seen very often. My old model is accurate but it can't compare to smoothness of my 2 new models and waiting for the 4.25 to come in. I have 3 of the new python's in different lengths and one beautiful 1977 royal blue old one and my new one's are shooters and don't think I can ever wear them out. Altamont makes the wood stocks for them and can be found cheap on GB to replace the rubber ones

My wife and I have the new Colt Python in 6”, 4.25”, and 3” barrel lengths. While they ‘are’ snake guns she named them ‘Papa Bear’, ‘Mama Bear’, and ‘Baby Bear’. She likes the 3” Baby Bear. We had to spend the kid’s inheritance to get em’. We’ll be looking for the Anaconda next. She said that’ll be ‘Grandpa Bear’ and if it’s an 8”? Well I guess that’ll just have to be named ‘Great Grandpa Bear’. I’m fine with it … “Happy Wife, Happy Life” 🤗

Old Python versus new I think can be argued which one is better, but with the Anaconda it's just no contest, the old gun is inferior in every single way. The wheelguns Colt produces these days out are pretty much peerless out of the box against any gun without aftermarket work done on it. Nice faux ivory grips by the way.

The first two digits on the serial number is what year it was made.

The Colt 44 Anaconda Is About As Bad Azz As Pistols Get ! I Always Wanted A Gun That Had Great Knockdown Power At Both Close Quarters And Also Had A Long Reach. The Anaconda In The Hands Of A Well Trained Shooter Is Hard To Top.

The longer cylinder on the new gun is to handle longer heavier bullets that hunters like. The old Anaconda would struggle with pills bigger than 240gr.

WHY did they have that ridiculously reduced-radius-to-the-rear of the trigger guard, on the old one, as opposed to the more-symmetrical trigger guard, more-like what you'd see, on a Python, old OR new? The narrowing-down rear portion of the Colt Trooper's trigger guard looked RIDICULOUS. WHY does the stock Colt rear sight, on the new Anaconda? Does it go OUT-OF-ZERO? Mas Ayoob hated the stock sights on the new Colt Python revolvers, and ALSO recommended the Wilson Combat replacement rear sight. What was the cause of the PROBLEM, with the stock rear sights?

The new Colt Anaconda 2021 is heads and shoulders better than the old Colt Anaconda. The cylinder is longer and wider and the top strap is thicker. The action is a super sized new Colt Python leaf spring not the coiled spring action of the old Anaconda. And the Wilson Combat Adjustable steel rear sight is a must. And the longer cylinder of the 2021 Anaconda can handle Garrett Cartridges of Texas 330 grain Hammer Head loads and the Buffalo Bore +P+ 340 grain hard cast gas check bullet factory load.

I bought my 8-in Anaconda back in 1995 for $450. Not going to cough up $1,600 for a new one, even though the quality may be better.

Well i bought an old one and it does have what i believe to be bad endshake, that's what happen when you buy without knowledge, 0.004 pushed forward, 0.009 pushed backward

The trigger and hammer of the old Anaconda are made from cheap ass powdered metal. I always considered it a POS and had no desire to own one at all. The new one has milled parts and is far superior.

Anyone who ever touched an original anaconda knew it was garbage in the beginning. The new one is a great gun. For calling yourself a “Colt Guy” you should have known that.

Personally I don't like shiny guns or fancy grips best thing they did to that new gun was put in the python Trigger action as far as the slop in the cylinder that might be why the old anacondas don't have timing issues like the new ones do most of the complaints are Aesthetics how the gun looks is secondary to how the gun functions give me the old gun with some trigger and action work done
