Here is another part of a restoration of this beautiful piece from the 19th century! Please trust me with this one it's going to look awesome at the end! (I really do hope so)

You don’t need to apologize to anyone for what you’re doing. I’m sure the spirits of the original Colt designers are smiling down on you!

Nice job! I look for those old worn out or neglected Winchesters and Marlins to do a similar refinish job like you have done. The goal is to give me a nice looking original example and hopefully gives the firearm another 100 years of life. Thank you!

I basically saved an 1861 musket from the crusher. It had been stripped, painted and sporterized. It was possibly the worst candidate for any kind of restoration you ever seen. Guys on forums were howling that I was destroying the guns true history. ( A history I might add that was basically going to destroy it for good. ) I took the gun down to the finish. I spent months aquiring all the correct parts for the gun from antique gun dealers all over the country. I did hrs of research on period correct finishing techniques for both the wood and the metal parts. When I was done I had a very good sympathetic restoration or a very old firearm that will make it presentable for generations to come. The best part? It fires! It fires good shot groups at 50 yards! Not great, but good! Keep at it. Stay true to the gun. Can't wait to see it when it's done!

Excellent work mate removing that much rust is hard work, I do similar jobs restoring old air rifles here in the UK. Its very satisfying to see the end result

I empathize. I spent countless hours sanding old lacquer from a guitar. Now I have come to a cup of water and 1200 to prepare it for primer coating.

It isn't about screwing up, KZfaq is evil and practicing censorship, it shouldn't be up to KZfaq to decide who gets monetized, it should be up to the viewer.

Looking good. I don't think the serial number will need recutting. At this point it still looks legible. As old as this lightning is , it'll be amazing if you can get it back 90% let alone factory new . If anyone can it will be you .

Fantastic video. You should have tried evaporust and 000 steel wool to remove less material maybe but still it looks great! Nice job. Can't wait for next weeks video. 👏💪👍

if you boil old guns it will convert rust to blueing. but you need to buff off the orange rust powder with 0000 steel wool or a carting wheel

KZfaq just randomly polled me to ask me why I liked this video (had me choose from a selection of reasons like "informative, calming, useful, exciting etc). Wonder if it was/is on the verge of being demonitized.

I don't know how to react to this. I appreciate what you are doing but at the same time I cringed when you sanded off the original finish. I respect it even if it makes me a little sad at the same time. I like to think about it like this. If I ever bought an old muscle car to restore it would have a modern ignition, radial tires, a good stereo and an air conditioner. I don't care if it wasn't original. That being said, I would never take a perfectly restored vintage car and modernize it. Anyway, nice video part 3 is waiting for me now. Keep up the good work.

Why do you have to damage it tho? You should repair and conserve not just destroy and re-weld. I love your stuff, but you shouldn’t damage these antiques.

Oh okay, Thankyou for the clarification. Great job overall! It looks amazing. Sorry if I was rude.
