To the announcers: Emergency trauma medicine is a whole different animal than standard medical care. That's why they were calling for the people that are specialized in handling those kinds of situations even though they have a team doctor. Not to mention if it had been a serious life threatening situation you need the EMTs to bring a stretcher and prep the patient for transport and everything else.

Not only to the announcers. This is to everyone. I'm the spouse of a emergency medicine physician and the things they're trained to deal with are very different than a generalist. There are specialties in medicine for a reason.

Could be rib, collapsed lung, maybe even a commotio cordis event (look it up - it happened to Chris Pronger once). Could also be the hit from McCabe. Who knows. Not really worth speculating, IMO.

From Twitter: Per #CBJ spokesman, Sean Kuraly was evaluated at Grant Medical Center, but not admitted. He was sent home Saturday evening after battery of tests proved negative. Unclear how much time, if any, he’ll miss. Don’t expect an update from club until after the three-day holiday break.

We used to play floor hockey in the school Gym with wooden sticks cut off and a girls ice skating ringette ring.... I was flying the wing one day and the metal plate in the floor covering the hole where the Volleyball net went popped out and my stick went into it, INSTANT STOPPAGE.... luckily I had my stick down and both hands on it and , I did not let go and held on like hell with both hands , it speared me in the midriff and it flipped me all the way over and I almost landed on my feet, good thing there was a massive well taped knob on that stick or I could have been impaled.I think his hands came off his stick which sucks.

Just had some guy come in so quick along the boards while both of us were going for the puck that I didn't have a chance to clear my stick. It ended up getting jammed into my stomach a bit. Always like to see the other team demonstrating concern when somebody is injured. The other bench were all looking over instead of just killing time, and a few watched from the ice. The officials also reacted, the lead ref following to ensure the game flow stayed clear while the other helped Kuraly clear the ice, and they didn't debate stopping play when called on. Glad for the reports all tests came back negative at the hospital and they just did a catch and release.

Bonkers that the NHL and teams haven’t changed protocols on this, would be easy to implement EMTs/doctors in the tunnel behind the benches (instead of crossing the ice) and a panic button located at the bench to speed these situations up. Could even link the button to the horn and game clock as a pause in game for player safety. I mean, I’m not an expert but these seem easy implementations 🤷‍♂️

Probably because more often than not players need medicinal attention on the ice. They should definitely have a doc./paramedic in the tunnel as well if they normally don’t already.

The doctor is only one person. If this is a serious medical problem, which it appears to be, there has to be medically trained personnel to help the doctor out. It would be nice for the people calling the game to not publicly criticize the man appearing to be walking across the ice slowly-he wasnt wearing skates. Also, its not his fault he wasnt on the other side of the ice when he was needed. Where are all the medical staff to begin with? Sounds like it was a case of bad circumstance and/or poor planning. I hope Kuraly is ok.

No doubt on hockey player brute toughness. Not sure comparing NFL toughness is fair ; NBA is more appropriate. NFL players take one hell of a beating every week. Haven’t heard a turf toe reference in years but check out video on Deon Sanders turf toe-not an injury to take lightly

Continuous playing until play is dead, plays maybe 5-12 seconds then gets a small timeout every play. The list goes on and on. Even the MLB has is tougher than the NFL. Hell even soccer players are tougher cause if they get injured and have no subs that player will try to stay on the field in any capacity possible. Football players get cramps and call it a day.
