Good review. I love my Pro2 with its Detailer side but likely would have been just as happy with the cheaper Detailer model. Yeah, I'll buy that nib (or any other) just to see how it works with my poorly coordinated hand. I've been surprised with wins and loses. The one nib that Colwood doesn't have is a decent spoon shader. The SP I got was flat bottomed. I think of it as a minuscule SPatula, not a SPoon. Looks like I'll get an Optima spoon shader pen and get a wide choice of radius...

😂 isn’t it funny how the brand compatibility broadens the horizons? The Optima spoon shader is definitely a popular one, and I think it would be a great addition to your arsenal especially if you already have a Colwood. No adapter needed🔥🙌

My daughter just ordered the Colwood Detailer with the 9 tips for me for my Mother's Day gift! I've had it in my wish list for several months. I'm so excited and can hardly wait for it to come in. It's supposed to be here by this Saturday. If it had not of been for you and your lessons, I don't think I'd have ever continued to burn. Everyone says I'm getting better every day. I've also been doing some dog portraits, thanks to you. I'm also excited that all extra expenses are completed and I'll be able to rejoin Burn Savvy White Hot membership again in May!!

Thank you so much for your videos. I shopped around for awhile to pick the best burner for my needs. Your videos definitely help me make my decision. I ordered this burner with the tips you had put together as a kit. I also was able to use your discount code that saved some money also. Everything was great until I received the burner. When I took it out of the box it was rattling like something was loose on the inside. I did not want plug it in because I did not want to short anything out. I contacted Bear Tools and was told I needed to contact Coalwood. I responded that they had sent me a definitely product. They just said they did not make the burner andI had to contact Coalwood. I have emailed Coalwood twice and have not heard back from them. I called them on Thursday and they are closed Thursday through Sunday. I received the burner on Monday 24th and this is Friday the 28th and I have a burner I can not use. I will try Coalwood on Monday and see what they say. It seems to me that customer support is standing behind what you sale. Whatever happens you have been very helpful and I appreciate it. I just wanted to post my experience at Bear Tools so other people can be aware.

Best introductory discussion I have seen so far. Great care was taken to share critical differences between the top brands that I am considering. Including the trade-offs between thickness of handle; such as overall grip comfort versus the length of time the handle can be held without feeling too warm. I am satisfied that the sturdiness and weight of the heating unit will satisfy my expectations as well. I am a beginner, but after attending a hands-on beginner intro class to pyrography, I absolutely know that cheap materials would frustrate my illustration abilities to no end. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in this art form go somewhere where you can be exposed to the cheaper beginner type tools and see for yourself. The experience will open doors to valid questions and then professional tutorials such as this one will lead you to making the best choice. All of my most important questions were answered. The Colwood Detailer is clearly the unit I would want.

Just got into this after three years of tooling leather. Pyrography makes my lines look so much better than a swivel knife. I feel like the Razertip is best for me because I have a cheap kit that came with a lot of wire tips that I can interchange. Thanks for breaking it all down!!

Cool video, information I didn't know I wanted to know, till I saw it. I found you, while trying to find how to repair my colwood nib. My circle tip wasn't welded very well, from the start, and breaks contact, therefore, doesn't heat. Do you know how to weld them?
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy 8 ай бұрын
If I understand correctly, you can use one of the solid point woodburning tools, which is also a soldering iron. But I am not a welding expert, nor a soldering expert. If it were me, I would try to attach it with the solder, and if that didn’t work, I would buy a new tip. Good luck!

Hey there savvy! Thanks for your great pyrography content, this helps a newbie like me a lot :) I started woodburning with screw tips/solid tips and wanted to upgrade to wire. Sadly our european tools seem to be a bit different and do not seem to come in as much variety to choose from. After a lot of research an price comparison, I wanted to get 'something like' the colwood detailer. That being said, I am a bit worried if there are any safety concerns or generell stuff I need to understand about our differences in plugs and voltage output from outlets if I am to buy one from the US (apart from using an adapter). Do you have any experience with this concern and if so, could you share?
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy 10 ай бұрын
Great question. I haven’t personally had any experience with this, but I’ve sent a bunch of overseas pyros to Colwood suppliers in the USA and Canada and so far I haven’t heard any problems. Hope that helps!

Is it worth it? Should i just get a pro 2 with less tips etc. last pen i had was a walmart one and almost got me to give up.. i will be provlt burning a varity wood at the cottage. I want to burn a name on a canoe padde for my sisters 30th

It’s totally worth it. Even though I have several brands and several models, I go back to this model of this brand. I have a review on the super pro also if you want to check that out. If you’re wanting to do more fine details with shading, I would stick with the detailer. But if you were looking to do more line art or silhouettes, the Super Pro is fantastic. I find the super pro takes more skill to use whereas the Detailer is awesome at every level.

Hi Jannie, I’m interested in a burning machine for foiling onto leathers and papers AND pyrography for wood. I bought a pretty expensive burning machine that has a digital screen. When it is reading between 15 and 17 I can use it. But the heat fluctuates so much during use (huge fluctuations…drops to 6, goes up to 19 and then 22, 24 on up…then back down again), I just decided to look for another solution. Do you think this one will work? Or would it only work for wood? This burner doesn’t appear to have a screen. It’s difficult to tell if the lower heat ranges wouldn’t just burn right through foil. If you have any advice on this, I’d appreciate it.
@BurnSavvy
@BurnSavvy Жыл бұрын
Ooo this is actually something I’m planning to test out. What kind of foil do you use?
@staceyscribbling
@staceyscribbling Жыл бұрын
@@BurnSavvyI actually just got the burner today and I tried it out with the foil I have…It burns too hot for foiling, unfortunately. I have it a tic past 0 and it just burns right through the foil. I have gotten some foil to transfer to the material as long as I keep my hand moving. But, it still too easily burns it in certain areas. Perhaps there is another foil that will work better with it that is slower to transfer…I’d have to look around. This foil transfers pretty easily and the burner is too much for it.

Interesting. Bummer it didn’t work though
@staceyscribbling
@staceyscribbling Жыл бұрын
@@BurnSavvy Well, I found one article about adjusting a trim pot...I may look into that as well. Perhaps if it were turned to the point that it doesn't burn as hot at 0, it could work, maybe. If it can go low enough. I hate to open a new machine. But, I would also love for it to work for foiling too.
