The bow and arrow were used with great skill by Comanche warriors. It was a necessary part of Comanche life, essential to the tribe's horse culture. Throughout the month of October we're taking a look at this important form of weaponry with our four-part video series, Comanche Archery 101. In our final video, we take a look at some of the necessary elements needed to correctly shoot a Comanche buffalo bow. #Comanche #Archery #History www.comanchemuseum.com

Excellent video. Thank you. Have taught a great many people how to shoot the bow and it is nice to be able to show them that there is a great variation in the traditions of how to place the fingers on the string. Some people are adamant that there is a "right way". And it is nice to be able to show them multiple methods and then they can choose what works best for them. Your video was very clear and respectful. Thank you!

When doing the Comanche draw, would´nt it be easier to put the arrow on the other side of the bow, exspecially when Shooting from horseback?

The grip is similar to the kind most Taiwan Aborigines used. Most indigenous bows here are not very heavy, say around 30#, because in the rainforest, you're not going to be shooting very far anyway.

Why is no one addressing that the Comanche held spare arrows in their bow hand and/or draw hand? And that back quivers are a myth?
@Daylon91
@Daylon91 3 жыл бұрын
Back quivers were used by all plains tribes. They were soft leather and formed to your body. It's not like those round solid back quivers

@@larryshumate I was in Cherokee nc and I was talking to some of people who work at the museum and they were saying that they had 75-80 pound bows and used them to take down larger or tougher game

what are those 25-35 pounds ?
@dhuanabsa774
@dhuanabsa774 6 жыл бұрын
WV591 It's the weight of pull of the bow. It's in pound normally, not kg. The heavier the pull, the farther the arrow will fly and the better the penetration, basically.

Good information. Historie is important to care of. And to showing it of like you guys do is very good. I have always been fascinated by the North American Indians. - But, your tragic historie, is a disgrace for the white man. Thank you for sharing.

The current thinking now is that traditionally the arrow would be on the right side, not the left, for a right handed person. It is easier to hit a moving target tat way. What you are doing is modern ie Olympic style, and not instinctive. It is better for static targets.

Your lack of safety while handling a bow, with the arrow on the string, demonstrates your arrogance and ignorance as an educator. Your captive audiences deserve better. Think safety.
