Lindybeige did a series of videos with a British volunteer, who said, that a lot of western veterans can't deal with the fighting over there. When you go in and expect fighting like we did in iraq and afghanistan, where we airstriked entire mountainsides because of a single mg position, with casevac at basically all times, sleeping in the relative safety of pur bases, it does something to you to be on the weaker end of a conflict, being shelled for hours, no casevac, no airsupport, an enemy who looks exactly like friendly forces, living in trenches, cold, hunger, etc He said in some cases people without prior combar experience deal with it better, cause they don't have much expectations going in, aside from "it's gonna suck"

I can't even imagine what it must be like to be under that constant level of stress for weeks at a time, having drones trying to drop grenades on you and your buddies while you sleep, going trench to trench trying to clear it out not knowing if there's a Russian waiting to shoot you round the next corner, getting shelled and mortared. Just impossible for me to imagine myself going into that - they're brave men.

Shoot if it were us the U.S., we would have killed the Russians and the Ukrainians. No way would we be in the position the Ukrianians are by clearing the trenches and even execute strategies like that. IF you disagree, remember what we did to the Russian PMC Wagner group and to the Syrians.

@@YourJudgeLaw Russia has tons of AA, we have no idea how the US would operate against a country with a prolific amount of modern and powerful AA. In fact, Russia has so much AA precisely because they know how we fight and planned to fight against it. The US has since WW2 pretty much fought against every enemy with total air superiority on its side. I think we could and should be learning valuable lessons from this conflict about what a modern and conventional war looks like, and it certainly isn't as cut and dry as our past conflicts have been. Many foreign volunteers in Ukraine from western armies have commented on how the fighting experience is totally different to what they've experienced in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc.

@@demawonda What does that have to do with my comment? Traditional anti-air isn't effective against drones, you can't just use a Buk missile system on a handheld drone. No one military right now has totally foolproof systems in place for countering enemy drones en masse. If people think the US could simply bomb Russia into submission like we've done with other countries, they haven't done much research. This is what a modern war against a near peer military adversary would entail

Looks like these guys are already comfortable fighting in trench combat. They are comfortable shooting close to each other like veterans from WWI and WWII on the Eastern Front. They look and sound motivated and working as a team within squad and platoon level. Their combat is way harder than what I did experience in Iraq during the Surge. Artillery and mortars on the enemy side well trained makes life difficult. These dudes are solid and don't mess around in combat.

For anyone who is curious...The GP-25, GP-30 and GP-34 (The line of mounted grenade launcher used in the video) are a muzzle loaded GL with a specialized mechanism that prevents a live round from dropping out of the chamber when the barrel is pointed toward the ground. This was a problem on earlier designs because the weight of the loaded round in the chamber made the gun extremely muzzle heavy, often leading to soldiers tiring and allowing the muzzle to drop with disastrous results. This mechanism can fail to disengage when the round is fired. That leaves the operator with a live round in the chamber that has likely damaged the weapon enough that it can not be safely manually extracted in the field.
@SighNaps

And a hover shot is a grenade round launched at such an angle that it airbursts over the enemy position. It is common in terrain such as this where deep trenches and thick mud can severely limit the effectiveness of direct fire.

@Awoke Awoke exactly. I have disdain for invaders and slaughterers of innocents such as the Russians in Ukraine but I still realize they’re human. That’s what would make me a terrible soldier. Apparently as some saying goes, the worst are those that have any bit of empathy for the enemy. I get it. But still, I feel like it throws your humanity away when you crave blood even for someone you consider your enemy. Fight when needed, as the Ukrainians are, not for bloodlust, as many in these comments would. It’s disturbing to see the fetishizing of violence and how quick people are to dehumanize others. Some surrender. Some sabotage their own army’s shit and go AWOL or abandon their post. They’re not all evil inhuman bastards.

Snickers are great in stressfull situationes that is demanding on your body. If you get a drop in energy, you can chump on down in no time, and the chocklat, nuts and suger gives you a quick energy boost and get your bloodsuger up. I dont know if american troops use it, but almost all swedish troops I know of always carry a couple of that very reason. Always interesting to watch these frontline videos with a Marine soldier like yourself, to see it from your point of view and get some understanding of just how crazy/chaotic/dangerous what we are seeing is. From your facial expressions alone I get the impression that this war is fucking outrageously dangerous, uniquely so. As well as this, the little details that you see that might go unnoticed to the untrained eye is very interesting to me. I watch other channels too but its more strategy and tactically based which is prone to bias, but this tends to be what you see is what it is.

Smart tactic actually. they barrage the enemy trenches then assault to clear out the leftovers with minimal risk to themselves. then they retreat and let the Russians reoccupy the same trenches that they are already dialed in on with arty and then they can just do it all over again. effective way to kill a lot of russians with minimal risk off losing friendlies.

Tactical snickers are a life saver, they fit perfect in most vest pockets I think the worst and somehow most real one i've seen that shows the real tension and horror of trench fighting was posted by the Sun KZfaq channel ( A British newspaper that's sometimes questionable for most over here xD ) called " Single Ukrainian soldier fights off Russian attack on trench " or something like that, think it was around 5 mins or so,posted a week or so ago with 2 guys standing their ground, might be worth a look as i'm not sure if it would be ideal to post as it might be demonetized but i suppose if it stayed up for them then who knows and it's a bit more tense than this one for sure. But either way it was eye opening and seemed like an unfiltered chunk of recording, both sides are practically breathing down each others necks more so than here and you can see how terrible the whole situation is, its the real kind of no agenda portrayal of war that makes you question how humanity keeps ending up in these situations..

In total awe of these guys. I am not a serving soldier or a military expert but the videos of clearing trenches and others of clearing building looks like dirty dangerous work in a war full of dangerous jobs. I don’t consider myself a wimp by any means but I will be honest, I couldn’t do it, this take a special type of motivation which they have in abundance.

I've seen the dust cover thing happen more than once in combat footage, so seems like a design flaw with older AK's in use with a GP-25. If the rifle has lots of wear and tear, the cover isn't as secure and the GP-25 has enough recoil to dislodge the cover.

Some serious fighting and tough ground within and around the trench. Brave chaps and I like the VOG on the distant targets, not seen that in general and not something we used in the UK. The comms issue must be v serious and hold things up, likewise the potential for blue on blue is huge, the chap putting rounds down as they withdraw and then a friendly appears is just WOW watch out. Still they appear to understand and work togther well, so they are getting it done. Can't help but think that someone giving them a comms package might be more useful than some of the other kit, as they would do better working in a wider joined up thinking situation. I loved watching your face when you see the potential hazards and how these chaps deployed drills, for a western trained soldier some of this is crazy and you would go mad at any of your people if they did some of this stuff.
