Well look what I found in my closet, A brand new Focusrite 816 3rd Gen (Still in the box from 3 yrs ago). Guess what, It doesn't have ADAT or Word Clock. Just SPIDF ! Looking at aggregating with a PreSonus 1824C or Zoom L-8. So those who said hook this $hit up W/Adat to Adat or Word Clock. Nope, no can do. Had to do it this way SPDIF. Thanks Bro !

Spdif supports 2ch up to 192khz. ADAT supports 8ch at 44.1 and 48khz and depending on your interface can support 4ch upto 96khz in smux

excellent very well explained, the only video that has understood the problem of synchronization, the only bad thing is that it is not applicable to cheaper interfaces like scarlet or the behringer umc 202, because the drivers of these do not have the option of syncronization or I'm wrong

Thank you very much for the tip! I want to record drums with 10 channels. I have behringer umc 1820 with 8 channels(it has both SPDIF and ADAT) and portative zoom u-44(it has SPDIF only). Both of them record quite good to me for process in DAW, but when i try to expand master 1820 with slave u-44 via spdif - signal from u-44 comes with awful digital jitter when i kick bass drum or play toms. Seems like it do not like low freq. Also spdif mix two microphones into stereo( not two standalone mono signals, each mic separately) which is not good for mix. So, did i get it right - your method in simple words is to use both interfaces via usb separately and use spdif just to synchronize them?

On the 1818VSL, to record 18 tracks simultaneously can the spdif be used with a simple a/d converter or does it need to be an audio interface in order for the sync to work with the adat and the spdif? My adat device is a fostex fd8 from 1999, so there's no way that I'm aware of to have that use a different clock. The manual just talks about a midi sync with a midi cable

Is there any way to use these devices as an aggregate on windows 10? I know this can be done on mac but found nothing related to windows 2) If point 1 is not possible to do, what interface would you recommend for preamp input expansion? My 6i6 1st gen has spdif out/in - using this, what would be the most decently priced interface to expand number of inputs to 6 (2 from the 6i6 and 4 additional from the slave device)? Anything from Behringer?

thank you for your entertaning video, and here I want to ask, it's about joining 2 interface afteral for now I use XR18 as my mixing console, and yeah it's working well for recording and usb playback, and here's the problem, as for on mixer only has 18ch, I tried to made them 36ch by (hopefuy) joining 2 of XR18, and by using asio4all but, there was 'crackling' noise for a period of time continuously is it because that's the performance of asio4all or what?

So 1818vsl S/PDIF out is connected to the fast track S/PDIF in ? or 1818 out and in are connected to fast track in and out ?

I have 18i20 1stGen with octopre mkii (16 combo inputs). I plan to record 24 to 32 channels... If i buy another another 18i20 (probably 3rd Gen) + octopre, will this method work? Will use it for live recording. Hope to hear from you.
