Nice Rick. If there are gaps or holes in the cover I use the backing piece the tape is one and put it under the book so the mending tape won't stick.

as you know I have repaired many spines using mending tissue in the past, and I like to use the least amount possible, but with brittle books or books with weak spines you have to use the full width of the tape like you showed. There are even even times when the books have long horizontal splits on the spine from a bad spine roll that has forced me to use the 25mm (1 inch) document repair tape, it's exactly the same product as the mending tissue just twice the width. The use of the staple remover to hold the tissue end is pure genius and I want you to know that I will be stealing that idea!

thanks so much for your input as always Jim, Yeah I will often laser cut the mending tape to provide the minimum possible amount, but this book was essentially crumbling in my hands. I'll have to find some of that document tape for better laser cutting!

Thank you for this video and link. I have an ASM 7 that I need to do this with and am terrified of messing up. This tutorial makes it seem pissible.
