Note re: Flayer of the Hatebound. Casting a spell from the graveyard does NOT trigger the flayer (It's entering from the stack). The Flayer does trigger off all the other reanimater spells, though.

I think that Underworld Cerberus, since Chainer doesn't target, is a good piece of graveyard protection in this deck. And Underworld Cerberus also denies opponents the ability to target cards in their own graveyards which could keep them off of their own recursion plans

Panharmonicon if it’s survives is a great artifact for this deck there’s a lot of good ETB abilities for this deck

Really enjoyed the video. Only thing I have to say is that the original Chainer, Dementia master was the OG reanimator legend. It may seem like he's generic but when he came out there wasn't anything like him. Blew my 9 year old mind. Lol He's always been my favorite legend and after watching your video I think I'm finally gonna give his rakdos version a try.

You should put evoke creatures in this deck like shriekmaw and the one that destroys artifacts. You can discard them then cast them for there evoke cost from your graveyard

I love how Chainer has a massive upgrade compared to his previous incarnation. Having red means access to cards like Faithless Looting and Wheel of Fortune which accelerates its already powerful engine to absurd levels.

I feel like the Chainers are equal in strength. Nightmare gets red, but dimentia has a more consistent recur engine going as you can cast it many times. And with the new K'rrik and Vilis, that became insanely good

Flayer of the hatebound doesn’t trigger if you cast from your graveyard with chainer. It might still be worth it with all the other recursion but I thought it was worth noting.

How does Flayer not trigger? Just curious cause you are still casting from the grave

GalladeTKO234 you are casting it from the grave but it enters the battlefield from the stack as it resolves. Things like stitch together and doomed necromancer work because they ETB straight from the graveyard but muldrotha or chainer wouldn’t work because you are casting it from graveyard.

@@CraigArgyleAudio Potential 13 dmg per Turn. Seems legit. Entering, hits for 4, attacking, Hits for 4, dying, comes Back, Hits for 5. And after dies again You can repeat (Combat With haste from chainer), maybe 14 If You sac and undy it before Combat

What sort of mana curve would you recommend (given that reanimator curves tend to be a bit higher as you're cheating out big creatures).

You can go as high as you want so long as you have enough small set up creatures to fill your graveyard. It will probably look lower as a result, but it doesn’t have to be super Aggro.

Question? Me and my brother are arguing over chainers ability. When you bring a card from the graveyard onto the battlefield, do you pay it’s mana cost or is it free?

Brandon Justice the first ability says to discard a card and at anytime you can CAST (which means you pay its mana costs) a creature from the grave it doesn’t have to particularly be the card you discard if it’s a creature. The second ability just says that if a creature enters the battlefield under your control if wasn’t cast from your hand it gains haste it doesn’t matter how that creature enters, it just needs it to enter except from the hand. If you use a card to put a target creature from the graveyard to the battlefield it gains haste. If you used chainer to cast the creature from the grave then yes you still pay its mana costs.

If a card says put it onto the battlefield you don’t pay the mana cost.

I agreed with all of your points except that you think monoblack Chainer is “generic”. It’s arguably the strongest monoblack reanimator Commander.

Juan Rodriguez not if your opponents are playing any semblance of black and/or red. Plus Balthor can’t steal opponents’ creatures

Joshua Nelson A good Balthor deck ignores what other decks are gonna be recurring since what you will be recurring will have much more value. Played one this weekend playing my Meren deck. I got back 3 creatures. He got Fleshbag, Gray Merchant, Abhorrent Overlord, Massacre Wurm, Sheoldred, Overseer of the Dead and Phyrexian Obliterator. Just from the Gray Merchant alone we lost like 17 health. Plus he had around 25 1/1 flyers with Akroma’s Memorial.

Willburr 94 the same thing can be said of a good Chainer deck, though. I can’t even think of a time where I cared about anything in an opposing graveyard while I went off. It’s just icing if I find something of more value in there. That scenario isn’t lost on me when I play, either. There have been times where I’ve drained players for game in a single turn without going infinite using Gray Merchant or Kokusho. I’m sure a Balthor deck can do the same but not as effectively (it is tough to get to 35+ devotion lmao).

I think the point is really valid though that it’s arguable, in the end. Balthor is, understandably, a jackhammer, where Chainer is a surgical scalpel. Both will do their proper job, and very well if in the right hands, but one is a bit more finessey while the other is more conspicuous.

It's good but you wanna be able to summon them over and over again if you can and if you exile them you lose that creature if her or it ever leaves the field

@@mtgghouldude the trick to CQ is having an instant speed sac outlet. She only exiles if she becomes untapped or removed, so you can get silly things going. I play her in Mimeoplasm and when prophet of kruphix was legal it was gross. Now she's just good and not broken 😂

@@besabaftw and you can take creatures from other graveyards with her. Its commander so it is gonna be some juicy target there.
