The moment Muddstah rose above 70 life with the Aetherflux, it was over. Even if Muddstah couldn't win right then and there, unless they had Krosan Grip, any attempt to destroy it or lower Muddstah's life would result in "in response, I kill you and your spell/ability/attacking creature leaves the game with you".

Hey guys! I'm Joel, creator and pilot of this Chainer deck. My deck has gone through extensive changes since this game was filmed and the decklist linked in the description is up to date and might differ slightly from what was seen. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them!

hey, just build a chainer deck myself but haven't gotten to test it yet, i just hope muddstah is wrong about the end that the deck is weak without its commander :S
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@timtrio9862 Depends how you build it. With the cards I had available throughout that game I was entirely reliant on Chainer if I wanted to draw any amount of value out of the low impact cards I had. I do have many more cards and lines of play that are powerful on their own and don't need Chainer in order to function. However, the core game plan with him is to create an unfavourable situation for everybody and break the symmetry by turning any crappy top deck draws you have into the best creature in your graveyard. Take a look at my decklist in the description. I think it'll be a great starting point for your build and give you ideas. Necrotic Ooze is the main focus of my deck.

Why did you choose that chainer instead of the other one?
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@samconsumespie1012 I think he's a lot more fun to play. OG Chainer is basically just big mana good stuff. This guy is basically a combo enabler and allows me to do a lot of little things and tricks throughout the game. Do I want to produce as much mana as possible and just raise a bunch of big value creatures, or do I want to play a more "nimble" deck with a lot of neat tricks?

Miguel Cloutier even if I was using a deck that had all cards that were only $.25 a piece and I had the ability to remove a genuine threat from the board, I would’ve done it. Citadel was not the play because he was already at a low life total and he also had the chance of hitting a land, where the Wake gave nothing but pure value, seeing as to how it’s already revealed that something big costing was in his hand and getting rid of it would’ve completely ruined the momentum and wasted his turn. It’s not a matter of what deck is being played, it’s a matter of who’s playing it. It was terrible threat assessment that led to ruining the fun of others.

I switched over to Ghired, running an enchantment subtheme for *Doubling Season* and *Warstorm Surge* which works great thanks to *Hall of Heliod's Generosity* + *Sterling Grove* . Still needs some fine tuning, but it's won a solid 5/7 games so far.

Blowing up Bolas's Citadel and not Zendikar Resurgent... yeah, terrible threat assessment there. Almost as bad as when DJ exiled Vinny's Managorger Hydra instead of Jimmy's Planar Bridge at GameKnights. I know the Citadel is a scary card, but Joel would eventually run out of life to pay, while Muddstah would never run out of mana and cards.

It's not the worst play to make. I have a well-deserved reputation at my lgs for having decks that can go off out of nowhere. Miguel, having never seen my Chainer deck before this game, feared the worst and focused on me from the start. So I don't think Miguel necessarily made a bad choice in destroying my Citadel. But I would agree that choosing to stop a POTENTIAL danger over a current one isn't the best move. Most of the time.
@DarkEinherjar

I have no tolerance for such tunnel vision in multiplayer games... there's this guy in my playgroup who keeps focusing on me while ignoring actual threats, like a Kaalia player building up his angel/demon/dragon army, or a Trostani player with 60+ life and Test of Endurance. It's the kind of behavior that makes me want to avoid sitting at a table with them.
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
@@DarkEinherjar Trust me, I totally get where you're coming from. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Miguel assumed my deck relied on an infinite combo to win (it does) and was scared I tuned my deck so much I could go off any time without warning (I deliberately chose not to. But he didn't believe me and thought I was downplaying my deck's real power level) so he targeted me more than the others based off those assumptions.

Hi ! Great video as usual ! I still have a question in my mind (bad english possibly incoming). When Joel bedevil Chainer, can Miguel could decide if he put her on Joel's command zone or in his graveyard ? Because I think the choice is up to Chainer's controller (which was Miguel at this moment) and not Chainer's owner (which was Joel).
@philllllllll
@philllllllll 4 жыл бұрын
No, the choice was mine to make, not Miguel's. The only way you cna send someone else's commander to the graveyard is if you are in control of their turn, through things like Mindslaver or Emrakul. That allows you to make decisions for them. But any time a Commander changes zones, the owner decides whether or not to send it to the command zone.

Same. Im very curious to hear his comparisons. What i think off the top of my head is while Ghired adds haste enablers and cards like warstorm surge to deal massive burn damage, but these additions may not be good enough. The pros of trostani is the life gain, and consistency of 2 colors. You wont have to worry about being mana screwed, and i know budget wont be an issue for him, but for most players ghired might not offer enough to justify the money spent on the land base to have good consistency in 3 colors. Maybe im wrong tho

I remember, a very very long time ago, when Trostani first came out, I made a deck. I was given a lot of grief from my playgroup saying how badly she "sucked as a commander." I proved them wrong then and with your help and that of aetherflux reservoir, my deck has been banned from game night. Anyone who says Trostani sucks can suck it! I only edit this to say they unbanned my horrible Vial-Smasher chaos deck, that's how much they can't handle Trostani. I love seeing it in action.

...maybe Reservoir should've been sorcery speed only. Still strong especially in decks that go off on their own turn, but just a small hindrance to going hog wild.

Huh... that's how the game works. The upkeep is the first step of the turn where players gets priority to do anything.

Honestly considering shifting my Ghired back to Trostani as I leave the read and what it can offer but hate the fact I have to attack with him. Honestly he's more fair and forces interaction and I think that the plan from Trostani Non-token tokens doesn't implant well into Ghired.

I believe EVERY time I've seen a Trostani on this channel, the player has gotten Panharmonicon. Meanwhile I've been playing my Mistform Ultimus deck for over 6 months and I have yet to draw, play, or even SEE my Docent of Perfection. 🤔🤔🤔 Seriously I was at the point where I had to go through my deck to make sure the card was even still in the 99.

Same with my own copy in my Inalla deck D: I only managed to draw and play it once! Last time I played with the deck I checked wether the card was still there or not xD

7:20 Big mistake to destroy the Citadel instead of the mana doubler. Although it could've gone wrong either way, if Joel was already close to completing a combo.
