On February 19, 2022 at 1743 hours Newark F.D. was dispatched to 6624 Chatham Road to provide assistance to Granville FD for a report of a house fire. Several other agencies were dispatched to this run simultaneously to provide automatic aid.
Newton FD Engine-391 (crew of 4) arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a ranch style home. The officer initiated command and radioed the 360 report while I was responding.
I edited the response portion of the video due to it being 9 minutes and 30 seconds. I might post that portion at a later date for those people that are interested.
Responding Equipment-
Newton Engine-391 with a paid crew of 4
Newton Tanker-391 with a volunteer crew of ?
Granville Engine-201 with a paid crew of 4
Granville Rescue-201 with a paid crew of 4
Newark Ladder-2 with a paid crew of 3
Newark Twp. F.D. Engine-542 with a paid crew of 3
Utica Tanker-461 with a volunteer crew ?
Monroe FD Rescue-501 with a paid crew of 3
Monroes FD Tanker-501 with a crew of ?
Newark Engine-5 with a paid crew of 3
Newark Medic-5 with a paid crew of 2
Monroe FD Medic-501
Homer Tanker-472 with a volunteer crew of ?
As I arrived on scene Chief-200 advised me of his location, indicating that I should assume command. We have a great working relationship and we help each other on fires on a regular basis. Furthermore, this video demonstrates how multiple departments can seamlessly work together and obtain outstanding results.
This fire is believed to have started in the attic as a result of a woodburner.
The fire was quickly contained using two 1.75” attack lines and water supplied by tankers (non-hydranted area). There were no injuries at this fire.
This video was recorded with a Motorola Z Force Droid cell phone, which limits the length of each video to about 30 minutes.

On a side item, wife and I were in mid-state Ohio for a concert last week and decided to come home via 2-lane roads to see the sites. Coming down Hwy 13 found ourselves in Newark. Looks like a nice town and hope we will be able come back up that way soon to explore the area. (sure got downtown tore up though)

I finally figured out why i watch so many of the fire videos......no, im not a fire bug. Many years back, my great uncle, "Chub" Fletcher, was fire chief for Muskogee County Oklahoma. I wish people would realize how devastating homes fires are. Even though humans and pets can be saved, treasured items are often lost-not always expensive items but things that are special and cannot be replaced; photographs, souvenirs, or inherited items.😊

Watching a house on fire always make me feel sorry for the owners! As I almost immediatly think of something like this happening to me. The most frightening incident was a large fire that on Feb. 22nd this year destroyed a whole block of flats in Essen, West Germany. More than a hundred people were left homeless, one person in a wheelchair was carried downstairs to safety. A real miracle no one was hurt! Cause of the blaze was a small fire that had started on a balcony that escalated quickly due to high winds and plastic sheets mounted to the balconies. Radiant heat made windows burst and the fire sweep through the entire building.

I would love to use this you video for a class. I teach about 12 to 13 Fire officer one classes a year. Most important part of NFPA1021. I lecture about what to look for before you get on scene. Mainly focusing on, the five senses once you arrive on scene. Focusing on things that are missed the most. This is a great video because of the smoke color. 2-hour portion of the course is all about smoke color. Thankfully for KZfaq, we can teach young officers much better with this technology than ever before. So I would love to download this and show it in my class if possible. Every color of smoke will tell you something different, a lot of times knowing the color will save you or your guys' lives.

Great job as always chief! Since I retired 4 years ago this old guy couldn’t sit back anymore and watch the rigs go by my house. I picked up a part time gig about a half hour from my home. They just added us to two other municipalities which expanded our first due to just over 60 square miles and roughly 50,000 people. I went from under a 10 minute response to sometimes 20+! It stinks but the people are getting what they deserve. Be safe!

@@commandvisionfire Augusta Ga has 306 square miles. 130 of those made up Battalion 4. At the time of my retirement we had around 340 paid firefighters, 21 Engine Companies and 6 Aerial Truck Companies. However it is my opinion that Battalion 4 had it all. Commercial, wood lands, industrial, residential, rail yards, and the commercial airport. Your style of IC is 100% on point.

Hey Chief. First, Glad to see you safe and still at it. Second, how is it commanding a scene when you're called as mutual aid? I mean is it any different than any other fire scene seeing you're out of your normal "jurisdiction"? I remember back in my law enforcement days, if I was called on a Code 10 to help a fellow officer (which I've gone clear out of my county to help), I was just another cop even though I was the Chief in my jurisdiction. Thanks. Great job as always Chief. Take care. Stay safe!

The wind was a pain, it switched back and forth on you. It looks like a attic fire! Those are extremely difficult challenges to keep from loosing the house depending on how it's insulated! Punch a hole in middle of room or a piercing nozzle in all ceilings with one decent sized vent hole. But this is only from seeing the video. It could be so different conditions on scene! I don't see much chaos and that says a lot about training and commander staying calm!

I am wondering if you were on duty for the big warehouse fire Chief... Saw it on the news here in C-bus. Looks like the crews did another fantastic job!

Hey chief, l run with a department here in central PA hopefully moving up into a Lieutenants position, my father was a fire chief for 17 years and I’ve went on calls and watched him since I was just boy in elementary school, I’m constantly trying to learn how better myself as leader in a pinch, with dwindling membership and availability, there’s always a possibility to be first on scene of a fire… I was wondering if you instruct any classes, I’d love to come over there and learn from you and gather some knowledge from other areas, I’ve learned a lot from these videos, but education is key in this field

Thanks for another video! What causes you to request a second channel for water ops and who monitors emergency traffic on that channel if your on the main channel?
@commandvisionfire

The second radio channel was for water supply and movement of tankers. Basically it is the action going on behind the camera that we can't see. Another officer is typically assigned to coordinate that effort.

Also, I just read your description and am wondering the difference between a chief and your status as I noticed you took command when a chief was on the scene.

@@commandvisionfire I find this so fascinating. Thank you for giving me some entertainment at the end of a long work day. I know fires are controlled chaos but you make it look easy.

I wonder if there would've been fire through the roof if it wasn't metal? With the amount of smoke and time that passed, I'm surprised it didn't turn black and flash over. Good job to all, and good luck to the homeowner.
