Throwback Video of one of the greatest groups in history...COMMISSIONED. This was recorded back in 1984. Sorry about the audio!

Commissioned is the greatest male group of all times..period!! There has not been anyone else since them with the vocals and strong gospel lyrical content. The words they sing teach and make you think! This song is so beautiful and the lyrics are powerful "where we'll count not the time by years...and there will be no darkness there!"

Mitchell Jones hitting that high key in a natural voice is rare and unique all of them can really sing they are the standard of gospel sound

Man, Oh, Man! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I couldn't get what they were saying for anything. I couldn't even read their lips on the Reunion Concert DVD. Now, I can finally sing the whole song with a little more confidence.

wow, great video!!!! fred hammond once said in a interview. when he came up with the group, he wanted to make a male version of the Clark sisters.

Darryl Brown You are absolutely correct my brother. A lot of people think Commissiond's sound was influenced by the Winans but Fred has said on several occasions that their sound was based on The Clark Sisters' super tight, legendary four part harmony. Which is probably why Witness's four part harmony resembled The Clark Sisters on certain songs.

Love this song..makes you want to be ready when Jesus comes back!! Sing Fred!! Fred Hammond and Keith Staten were once in-laws.. Fred was married to Keith's sister. Keith's dad is a Bishop in the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith

@deenice681 I think Fred played bass for the Winans before founding Commissioned. I think they were probably very close, so I'm sure the Winans were an influence.

@@bleedinggreennationbleedin9342true but he also learned from the Winans because he traveled with them and told Mitchell he would learn all he can and come back for him… and he did. He speaks of the Winans highly especially Bishop Marvin Winans.

This concert was actually republished and put on DVD. You may be able to order online or find at one of the mom & pop gospel stores. It's called "THE LOST CONCERT" of the Winans.

If Commisioned wasn't influenced by The Winans, how do you explain songs like Giving My Problems To You being similar to the Winans sound. Keith Staten is clearly trying to channel the vocal style of Marvin Winans on that song.

tacoque he joined in 1991 when they released their album entitled "Number 7", replacing Keith Staten I believe; and remained there until 1996. Then once Marvin left, Marcus Cole filled the spot.

@@matthewmccarty1223don’t forget that when Fred left that they added Montrel Darrett… and he was very essential on the Album”Irreplaceable Love”with Marvin Sapp. Marvin as u said left for his solo career and then came Marcus Cole… but before Commissioned could come out with another album, Montrel went solo and then came Chris Poole(rip).
