One of my very favorite songs! 😍 This was their first release after Lionel Richie left the group. They were unsure if it would be a success, but it became and still is a major hit!🙏

Such a brilliant haunting song. I can't listen to it too often because it's almost too haunting. They are very joyous in their celebration and it's a beautiful tribute, though. Just makes me sad.

Two awesome soul/R&B singers, Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, passed away within about four months of each other in 1984. I remember it well. When "Nightshift" came out the next year, everybody loved it. It won a Grammy and kept the Commodores in the public eye. Great song. I love it. Love the reaction. Peace! <3

This is a tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. Marvin Gaye was shot and killed by his father. The other commodore Lionel Richie wrote a tribute to Marvin Gaye too but Diana Ross sang it in a song ‘Missing You’ dedicated to Marvin Jackie Florence Ballard and her mother Ernestine Ross

The Night Shift is about soul stars who have died too young and gone to heaven. The words are about missing these men and how much they meant to them. It is sad, but also uplifting in a gospel way - they make me want to praise the Lord.

That was a banger. They were singing about 2 famous singers who had recently passed, Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, and they mentioned Gaye's big hit(What's Goin' On) and Wilson's big hit(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher and Higher) in the lyrics. Beautiful vocals.

All that needs me to react is to just read TwinsthenewTrend, Commodores - Nightshift and I start sobbing. Musicians of the present and future time can make all the sad songs they want, but nothing will compare to this song. I think if a lot more people sat down and really listened, they can turn their lives around for the better.
