I was laying down listening to this song with my eyes closed about 6 months after my dad passed away and when the song said, "you've found another home, I know you're not alone" my entire body got overcome with chills and I started weeping heavily, but it was somewhat of a comforting feeling. I'll always associate this song with that experience. Amazing song.

I remember that day so clearly. I was on my way home jamming to the songs on the radio when cut the song short to announce that Marvin Gaye was dead. I had to pull over because I was crying. The way he died was so tragic 💔. His own father. So,so sad.

My mom was really hurt too. We lived in Detroit I was under 10 when it happened I think I didn’t really understand but holy cow it was tragic. Some people say Marvin Gaye’s father was seriously abusive and insane and him moving back home was like suicide by cop he was ready to go he just didn’t have the guts to pull the trigger. To me looking back Marvin Gaye was deep and complicated and broken.

The first guy you asked if "He is the new lead singer"-his name is Walter Orange and he was the drummer for the band when Lionel Richie was the singer. Walter's voice can be heard on songs like Brick House and Too Hot Ta Trot! The second Brother, JD Nicholas-is the vocalist that replaced Lionel Richie.

The song features a lead vocal from drummer Walter Orange, who had sung lead years earlier on "Brick House". Lionel Richie's replacement, J.D. Nicholas, sings the second verse. THANKYOU

And the 80’s. 95+% of all the worlds greatest music came from the period of the late 60’s to the early 90’s, including this song which was about 1985. Since that period music quickly died as a result of marketing companies taking over and the internet crushing any kind of creativity because kids all became the same and rap of all things took hold. Now it’s all about promoting the person through social media and mainstream marketing rather then the music itself. Everything is completely ruined. At least we have the amazing music of that previous period though.

@@Kerppu68 I'm guessing you're in your 50s or younger. This was a hit in the mid 80s. By that time I had finished graduate school and was working 80 hour weeks on wall street. All the love for Jackie Wilson is well deserved. A sad story, but a brilliant performer. In addition to the other excellent Jackie Wilson recommendations from others, you may want to consider "To Be Loved," a classic American ballad. And, yeah the Commodores are a treasure, with of without Lionel Richie (who is fantastic in his own right). Dunno which of their songs you have already covered, but consider "Just to be Close to You," if you are looking for a beautiful and unique R&B option.

He's an original member. He and Lionel shared the lead. He is the lead on Brick House. The second singer was new.

The first singer singing about Marvin was an original member of The Commodores. He was the bands drummer and sang lead vocal on occasion. The second singer was the new guy who replaced Lionel Richie.

This was such a beautiful/sad/hopeful song back then. Written about Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson(a man- who you need to put on your list: “Lonely Teardrops”; higher and higher; Baby Workout)as they both died that year. Such a great tribute. Always brings a tear to my eye- I guess because they sound so genuine and Marvin and Jackie were pretty amazing.

You have the best style for sharing how you feel about the music. This is a beautiful song. I saw them sing it in New Orleans a long time ago. Thank you so much for clean language. Your choice of words makes a huge difference.

You will experience few things in life smoother than a line of Commodores stepping to a song. Lol

Thank you for reacting to this song. I forgot all about it. I remember when it came out it's a wonderful tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson.
