Thanks for the video. I’ve had nothing but problems with the coolant system since I bought it brand new. It only had about 40k miles on it before I started noticing the coolant smell and had it serviced several times and they never solved the problem. I’m 100% sure the coolant tank is the problem now since it isn’t overheating and there is coolant residue on the inside of the hood right above the coolant reservoir. Bet my mechanic knew about it the whole time and ripped me off replacing other parts… I replaced the cap a while ago because people have said that is a common problem where the seal fails and fumes leak out, and it stopped for a little while. Still not happy that I’ve been breathing in poisonous fumes for long periods of time and such a simple fix could have avoided all of that. Chevy knows about it too and they won’t take responsibility

Good morning, just poured a ☕️ and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. Do you see any areas where coolant can be leaking out of any of the hoses and dripping onto HOT portion of engine? This can lead to the coolant creating a steam airborne scent and lead to it being sucked into ventilation system. Mike , Lately when i get out of my car i can smell some coolant but i dont see anything leaking . would the smell be coming from that little vent and is normal or not? i dont smell in the car only when i get out when getting home

Hello there thanks the vid was so helpful. I have a question. Is it normal for the water to start boiling few seconds once I switch the car off. But while the car is running everything is normal, I have no water leak the water level is always the same when I check it in the morning after I let the car cool down overnight. Plus o have changed the cap and the reservoir recently. Thanks a lot.
@DIYwithMichaelBorders3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & the coolant should not boil. If your coolant is boiling, this is usually caused by your thermostat not opening up and allowing the hot coolant to cycle through the radiator and be cooled. Has your thermostat been replaced since you’ve owned the vehicle? Below is a link to a video that shows replacement of thermostat. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bqxdZJqotKrFlIU.html 😎👍🔧🔩

Chevy had recalled several bcuz of water pumps going bad, its a common issue if coolant levels keep dropping without visual leaks you should probably take it to them.

The tip of that price got stuck on the cap and I didn’t notice and it kept it from flexing. I turned the car off and the res was “boiling”. I opened the cap later and popped that part out cleaned it out it back and it fixed everything. Google had me thinking head gasket.

Yeah, I will never ever consider another Cruze. I've had a 2011 since it was 7,000 miles new. It didn't last a year and I've replaced everything in the cooling system at least once and some parts 3 or 4 times. It's got a little over 100k miles now. My opinion is GM built the cooling system to small at a little over one gallon, so it runs too hot and builds too much pressure as most have mentioned. Can't drive it far from home and have to carry a extra gallon of coolant in the trunk to keep topping it off. Wife has had it towed home more than once. Tow truck driver told me the Chevy Cruze is his number one business. My wife has kept it in very nice condition, but I'd be too embarrassed to pass it on to someone else knowing what a piece of shit it is. They're a great car if you don't mind the smell of hot coolant when you drive it, have plenty of good tools, love buying parts and lots of extra time to work on it. Every time you replace a leaking part it will leak somewhere else within a few days. Thanks GM!! Can't believe you guys kept cranking them out knowing there was a huge issue with these models. FYI... You can bleed off the pressure in the coolant reservoir if you are EXTREMELY CAREFUL. The cap has plenty of threads. Unscrew it VERY SLOWLY until it starts venting out of the pressure relief vent, as mentioned. Be patient until it stops boiling as this could could take up to 20 minutes. I've used this method on occasion to top it off to get home when it overheats and I don't want to wait an hour or two.

Is the condensation normal on all cars? and why does it do that
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & it’s not uncommon. Due to the high temperature of the coolant returning to the reservoir tank, the remaining space that the air has inside tank begins to condensate. 👍

Hey, so i recent changed my water outlet on my 2016 limited eco, did a pressure test, nomo leak, however after using the A/C or heat the coolant in the reservoir keeps going down with no signs of leak at all, in the pipes coolant is good and pressure is good but some how coolant is being leak only when i tap up the reservoir, any suggestions??? Btw i also changed the reservoir cap and the leak is still happening, am not sure if its the reservoir not being able to hold that pressure with coolant being in the reservoir

Is it normal to have the coolant level in the reservoir to go down over a year with out adding to it? Or should the level remain the same if there are no leaks? I noticed a sweet smell in the engine and saw slight smoke under heat shield. I then noticed the coolant level was 90% low in the reservoir, add new coolant to the proper level, let it idle for 20 minutes then drove it around. I no loner noticed the sweet smell and no more slight smoke coming from under the heat-shield of the engine. I did not find any leaks on the pavement under my Cruize either. Could low coolant have been my problem? It seems totally fixed now. Tx for your videos!
@DIYwithMichaelBorders2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Coolant should stay level for a long period of time. Unfortunately the Cruze has had a few downsides to the coolant system. We recommend making it a weekly if not monthly MX check to ensure the coolant level stays within the proper fill parameters. To get the best and most accurate reading, we recommend allowing engine to be turned off & cool down for a minimum of 3 hours. Hope this helps. 😎👍🔧🔩

@DIYwithMichaelBorders Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, what is the current fluid level when looking at it after engine has been shut off for a few hours? If coolant level is within the proper fill parameters, you should be good to go in terms of quantity. If you have the proper quantity of coolant fluid inside the engine and it’s leaking out, check to see if you are experiencing any overheating with your engine?
