@@shunee12 You should check your family history so you can know for sure. You might find a few names that aren't exclusive to Louisiana Creoles? 😊

qddevine I did, apparently my grampas are Pensacola Creoles. I links up with one of his cousins and she said to call her for more . She seems real sweet🙂

My family is Guillory. And also Chavis (but Chavis is really Spanish from my research).

Guillory came to Louisiana (within our current Louisiana borders) in colonial times from another part of the Louisiana colony that was French Mobile (today Mobile, Alabama). When the British invaded Mobile, all of the French descended people came to south Louisiana. Guillory arrived in Mobile from France before that.

Too bad my foreign language studies were limited to French and German; living in California since infancy, I can read/understand Spanish (speak a little as well). Only since I took a DNA test recently did I realize that it was my partial heritage that made it relatively easy to learn the language.

Most people don’t realize Cajuns are white Louisiana Creoles. Most of those surnames you have there are of Acadian origin.

You forgot Carrier/Carriere!
@IslenoGutierrez Жыл бұрын
Carriere is a surname that came to Louisiana from Québec during Louisiana’s colonial period. The French Creoles of Louisiana (the original French speaking whites of Louisiana of ancestry from France and Québec) were the first to acquire the surname from Québécois immigrants. It was also passed to the Acadian Creoles (known today as Cajuns), to the Creoles of Color (mixed race people of Euro/Afro descent) as well as black Creoles (unmixed Louisiana blacks).

Keith Francis I've traced my great grandfather very likely to Tangipahoa village. What about your great great?
@Lavori7 жыл бұрын
Raymond Petit, it would have to be my great great grandmother and she was from Natchitoches. There were rumors that her family moved from South Louisiana to North Louisiana and they came from Haiti.
@Raymond_Petit7 жыл бұрын
Keith Francis what I do know is that my family which currently resides in New Orleans, was not from there originally. They have been hard to trace and information from my cousins hasn't been forthcoming.

French U is pronounced kind of like a long E with pursed lips, like you're whistling. English is more like "oo". A lot of French Creole speakers, from any given country, end up interpreting that French U as "ee".

Where do you get the idea that these names are "Creole"? Broussard is clearly 100% CAJUN. Beaullieu is pure French; not Cajun, as far as I know.
@kreyolLA846 жыл бұрын
"Clearly" Lol.
@kreyolLA845 жыл бұрын
Maybe it'll help to think of Mexicans or Cubans, who have Spanish names but are culturally Mexican and Cuban. Does it make more sense? These are all names commonly found in but not exclusive to the LA Creole community. Besides, if you can't say a name's Creole, you can't say it's Cajun either.
@kreyolLA844 жыл бұрын
Dehydrated Water Creole is not equivalent to islander. These names aren’t exclusive to Creole or Cajun culture. You’re essentially saying, ‘My name is Peter Smith like you. I’m American, so you must be too.’
@Raymond_Petit4 жыл бұрын
@Dehydrated Water seriously, what does it matter?! My ancestors came from Haiti and are Creole. There are people descended from Acadians with the same surname, Petit! So what!!!
@ninpobudo38764 жыл бұрын
@Dehydrated Water Sir you're highly mistaken! Cajun are CREOLES! They separated themselves from our Creole culture in the 60s and 70s! Pas un bon jounné
