I played baseball since I was 6 and even in college, 35 years old now and Grant’s tip to Bubbie in the previous video mentioned about keeping the weight on the inside of the back foot changed my driver. Since I started using that feeling I’ve started to hit a nice little draw with my driver which was unheard of before. It’s really works if anyone else is struggling with blocks/pushes/slices off the tee.

This is a great lesson! I've seen dozens of golf instruction videos and have not seen anybody point these "move" distinctions out. I, too, had a baseball background and have always fought a stubborn slice. I went to a strong grip to try and counter this but even so the slice still rears it's ugly head. Have always been long off the tee, especially for my stature but have always been extremely inconsistent. I always try to "clear the hips" but as you demonstrate it's more of a "slide" and not "toward" the target and then through. Going to try and incorporate these elements, thanks!

I’ve played baseball my whole life and just finished playing in college a few months ago. I’m getting back into golf after many years off and what I’ve found for a grip to be the most helpful was to strengthen it. It helped me keep the club face square longer. You guys make some great content. I recently lost my iron draw after I was fixing my driver fade/slice. I realised I still drew my punch shots out of trees and discovered it was my feet width ( stance too wide ) causing the push / fade. as a baseball player and now baseball coach, it may sound dumb but one of the biggest things i had to learn was to keep my arms more straight in the backswing. i would always bend my arms like i was swinging a bat because barring your front arm is a big no no. learning that you are trying to get back to a stationary target you can still hit it hard with straighter arms was a huge key in being more consistent. and learning to keep the club out and then let it recorrect in to out was a blessing. shot 75 the other day and had never even broke into the 70's with your help. thanks GRANT

After playing baseball for 20 years up to semi-pro level, mostly as a left-handed hitter, I actually started playing golf as a right-hander because I had way too many habits built over hundreds of thousand (probably millions if I'm being honest) of baseball swings haha A good baseball swing actually incorporates a lot of linear motion as well honestly. The biggest difference to me is in the tempo because of the timing that you have to account for in baseball, knowing that the ball is actually moving towards you at a variable speed. The stiff front arm is also a big no-no in baseball and that's a very hard thing to adjust. Good Good Labs has been SO helpful in getting a sound start by implementing the basics right off the bat. Thank y'all so much for these lessons!

Now that you've done an awesome job of describing getting into the slot with over the top tendencies, can you talk about the bowed wrist at impact and releasing the club properly (think DJ). I personally block out to the right hard if I don't pull off the "move", the "pro twist", the "lawnmower". If I get into the slot properly, my club face is wide open if I don't twist my wrist right. It feels so unnatural, not powerful, and I'm curious if you have some tips, some swing thoughts that might help. You dudes are nasty and I would love your perspective.
@pitchxpitch9584
@pitchxpitch9584 2 жыл бұрын
I got you. Do you know how to hook a baseball ( presumably down and around the 3rd baseline if you’re a righty)? You’re swing is still from inside the ball but you’re almost throwing the bat around the ball. Same idea in golf. I taught myself to swing left handed in golf 5 months ago (after playing right handed for a year and not being able to swing the club optimally due to wrist injuries) and have had some legit low 80s rounds (on top of some abysmal rounds) and what I’ve felt is that with baseball, you don’t “have” to turn the the bat over as soon. It’s a cylinder object vs an L shaped object. The cylinder is square all the way around where you can make contact on any part of it and at the point of impact, it’ll be square/equal/even in shape But with the golf club, it’s an L shaped object. You have to allow the club face to rotate over and around the ball to hit a draw. Go to the park/cage and try to hit some baseballs off the tee with some hook spin/movement. It’ll be an exaggerated feel but it should teach you how to “hit around the ball” to hit a draw or square up the face of a golf club. The tricky part is you can’t force it with your hands/wrists. You have to allow the body to weight transfer, rotate, and then let the arms follow like in baseball, but let the hands turn over sooner to avoid blocking or slicing everything out to the left. Which means you have to stay super relaxed and connected. To me, if I just took the same swing as a baseball swing to hit a golf ball, I will turn the club face over so late that it will just push or slice the ball out because the club face is wide open. It’s not an equal/even surface all the way around, which is why we struggle with squaring it up straight sometimes

Hit the nail on the head took a few guys on the team a couple rounds to realize why I was such a nice guy and invited them to come play golf. It was fun bringing the corner infielders or outfielders especially being an undersized pitcher and out driving all of them was quite gratifying. I imagine dropping down and throwing the two seamer every time I need to clean a wood off the deck. Or going to your glove hand side in the hole that same 3/4 to submarine motion is the slot you're looking for to get away from that slice!

The other thing I struggle with because of baseball is my hand position at impact. My left hand, lead hand, knuckles face up at impact trying to keep my hands inside the ball like a baseball swing.
