This is true but some countries such as Ireland and the UK taxis have, by law a fixed price peer mile and Ubers claim that its in the gig economy and not transportation here put out a lot of taxi firms. I'm glad that Uber lost their case here and now is more than likely going to lose their case claim that they're in the gig economy and be given a 1 billion pound tax bill and all fairs must include a 20% VAT charge.

I know a full-time driver that has been driving for years, they have been waiting for a month for uber to finish a random background check, they've lost almost all of their income and have been doing odd jobs barely making enough to survive. Not due to anything they've done, Uber just decided to take away their livelihood and there are no penalties to them for that. This is one of the worst examples of a dangerously unregulated industry. Full-time drivers should be classified as employees, they need a guaranteed income even if Uber decides to temporarily take away their work for a completely bullshit reason.

Same. I only use Uber when Lyft isn't able to find a driver for me which thankfully is rare. I remember a price surge day that really made me dislike the company. On a normal day, it would cost roughly around $8 to get from where I was to my home. But with Uber, it was almost $30! This was around the first quarantine we had in my state, so there weren't many drivers available. And I'm assuming that Uber took advantage of that since people were desperate for rides but they were scarce. That was one of those rare instances where Lyft was unable to find a driver for me. I just wish that the drivers were paid more. I try to tip them whenever I can, but I'm unfortunately broke.

Former Uber driver here for like 3yrs on and off. I personally never had too much issue with Uber, I liked that I could do it whenever I wanted, it wasn't awful pay (although after awhile you begin to learn the times to go out and drive for max profits, specifically looking out for surges), and honestly I enjoyed doing it for the most part; everyday was a new adventure out there and you never knew what you were gonna get. I suppose my only real issue is the fact that I was using my own car and my own gas which led to gas eating at my profits, the ocassional minor damage to my car for dumb mistakes such as backing into something on a tight road, getting pulled over sometimes, etc. Things that just come with the territory of driving A LOT All in all, I enjoyed my time Ubering for the most part, and it gave me some fun stories along the way. But I never took it too seriously or made it my full time job by any means, only really using it to fill in gaps in pay from my other freelance work being slow or something.

I've had luck with a wide range of vehicles. anywhere from the average economy car like Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Cruze, Kia Soul etc... To mid-range SUVs such as Kia Sorento, Ford explorer, Jeep Cherokee etc... To high-end luxury cars like Cadillacs, BMWs, Lincolns, Lexus cars etc... And even a few full size pickup trucks such as Ford F-150s, Ford F-250s, Ram trucks etc... and full-size family sedans such as Chrysler 300, Dodge charger, Chevrolet Malibu, etc.

Meanwhile both are illegal in my country, partly due to tax evasion on behalf of the payment to the drivers as well as the fact the drivers by Uber didn't have specific driver licenses which are required by law for carrying others for money. As such none have been around since April 2017. But a few taxi companies and shared car services have taken a few things from Ubers book, particularly when it comes to the digital side of things.

I used Uber/Lyft to get around San Diego for a business trip. My employer footed the bill. It was pretty good experience over all. Most of the drivers I had were really cool and they had nicer car than I own. There were two drivers, one was a speeder who loved to weave in and out of traffic and he was not very friendly, the second one was a batty lady who seemed to only want to follow the GPS which take me to the gated back side of the office complex rather than the front. She was getting so confused me and a couple co workers were trying to tell her where to go. When I got back home to Honolulu. I took an Uber home. The guy was a super friendly Surfer dude. I tipped him well. I heard all the bad stuff but I have used Uber many times and it’s been pretty good. I have spoke to some and asked how much they make. The ones I taller to made 1000 to even 2000 a week. Depending how many rides they do and how far. Not bad. I think Uber as a corporation made some bad mistakes. The scandals could happen at any company. I have actually used it and I probably will still use it

*Great video, Company Man. I drove for Uber once and had a terrible experience. I let the wrong person into my vehicle. He was a big tattooed guy who demanded a free ride. After I refused, he slammed my car doors very hard. Yes, it was a rookie mistake of mine. But Uber offers no basic training and their only concern is to get as many legally acceptable drivers out on the road. Uber doesn’t remotely care about their employees which of course they reduce them as contractors in order to save tremendous costs. Like so many new tech companies that are nothing more than a middleman who reap tremendously off the backs of their cash cow (Air BnB, Grub Hub and Door Dash) are all the exact same...this is the new age we live in where tech companies are far too powerful. Lyft has at least much better corporate leaders. Uber is the absolute bottom worst. Overall great experience for customers but terrible experience for drivers. I’m glad their stock price has tanked since their IPO, just like I’m glad they’re experiencing the economic fate of this coronavirus. It couldn’t happen to a worse company. Overall, great summary and breakdown here!*

As someone that drove for UberEats for 3 years I can confirm all the upset over Uber is BS. It was my favorite job I’ve had: you can work your own hours, be your own boss, and it paid me enough to get by in school. Tired of people suggesting simple part time jobs should get full time pay and benefits. Instead, we should be asking; Why can’t adults in this country receive the education to do anything besides drive a car for a living??
@Bill_Woo
@Bill_Woo 3 жыл бұрын
This is a serious answer, not an attack. I wonder if you may have put too many of your eggs into the college education. In terms of becoming employed, that can be (and for many, many, many, many, many people it is) a faulty strategy. I sense that it generally works if you use college for a very narrow and specific purpose, like science or engineering or MAYBE D.P. But even if you major in the very topic that is the name of your intended occupation (e.g. Computer Programming), it STILL may be more practical to just take a job at the bottom and learn on the job and gain experience and make the connections and come up with lucrative solutions to real world deficiencies and opportunities. Unfortunately, those are not things that the university really can teach you. Now, there's benefit to a college education; you can become more rounded, more worldly, more adept in personal skills and the behaviors expected of high level executives, and so forth. BUT THAT DOESN'T NECESSARILY GET YOU A JOB. In my observation, it just increases your chances of getting a BETTER job than the person without the degree. But that other guy was apprenticing for 4 years and has a crushing head start on you with his experience compared to yours. The bottom line is, I believe, that for someone to get a better job than being a waiter or a driver is a product of many factors, and, except in limited and specific circumstances, a college degree is not at the top of the list. It's nice; it will very possibly lead to a more fulfilling and elite existence, ideally rubbing elbows with royalties and executives and power brokers. But in and of itself, a degree doesn't necessarily entitle you to anything. Just being coldly honest. And God knows, the cowardly leeches that whine that someone like me has to pay for their failed effort is the highest insult. Worst of all, when someone agreed to a debt, and then crybaby whines that someone like me and all his neighbors must pay for his failure to meet an obligation. BTW, I got a degree, loaded with honors - high honors. Yet I still have mixed feelings whether I should have bothered whatsoever. From the ages of 25 and above I don't think a single hiring agent cared one iota about it. Not one. In fact one kid with a salesmanlike smile and demeanor or clever kissassedness trumped my degree every single time - hands down. And that's for a highly technical, medium executive level business profession. Your mileage may vary. Just giving a perspective. Of course, another way to look at it is, if you finish number one or two in your entire graduating class, maybe you automatically fall into opulent success. That certainly happens. Maybe something to think about while partying, raising hell and banging beaver, finishing 90th in a class of 250, and wondering why employers are not beating down the door.

I was more suggesting people shift their perspective from “how can we make Uber an affordable career” to “why is Uber the only option for some people” I 100% agree college seems like the default option for many when it shouldn’t be. But there’s still other ways to get educated like trade school or online classes. I have a friend starting a plumbing career, and he’s able to pay for his education through the on-the-job training he’s getting.

Every time I’ve tried a service app like Uber or Doordash it’s been a nightmare so I have a strict “no apps” policy when it comes to hiring services. You just don’t get quality service when you don’t treat your workers as employees. Independent contractors don’t have the same incentives to do a good job so there’s no consistency of service and the apps don’t give you the option to chose the people who do a good job. They deserve the bad reputation. They’re bad services.

honestly for the idependent contractor bit it makes sense as to why they would be classed as such 1. there is no real interview/hiring process 2. drivers can drive for other companies 3. drivers provide the majority of the required material(s)

"All within the past decade" Uh. Uber was founded in 2009 so basically everything that happened to it was in the past decade.

In this corner, EA comes in to challenge Uber for the most scandalous company title. Will Uber defend its hard won title or will EA swipe it away?

Great video! Also their credit card use to be so good. It was like 4%-5% cash back. Now it’s only Uber rewards credit.. feel a little bait and switched.
