J-Hope is truly a multifaceted artist. It is frustrating to not understand the Korean language, but this video really helped open my eyes to his mastery. This series is really highlighting the seven geniuses who make up Bangtan Sonyeondan. Thank you!

J-hope is really intelligent beyond his years , he always finds hope and he is a born leader, he always commands respect , his stage presence shows how confident he is and he always keep his feet on the ground. Quiet rivers runs deep, everyone knows that he is very quiet and loves to observes and just listens, He is my BIAS , I love this 👏👏👏💜💜💜💜💜💜💜APO Bangpo

In regards to Hope World, a lot of people missed the darkness behind the bright beats. I always perceived j-hope like a court jester (reciter of romances, minstrel, entertainer) one who uses comic dispensation to say hard truths in a palatable form. Thank you for going beneath the surface. I hope you do another video with more in-depth analysis of his lyrics.

Someone also said... "j-hope is not for the unintelligent." You hit the nail on the head. He is not only smart nor savage, but his songs also carry a lot of wisdom, too.

Thank you for this. I usually just think of Hobi as fun and energetic and I did not realize how incredibly deep he is. Wow I have a deepened appreciation for how incredibly talented he is. 💜

This video is a gem. I get frustrated with the usual oversimplified labels pinned on the rap line because Hobi's intelligence, insight, and wordcraft are often overlooked. I've read other Korean translators who have said that Hobi's lyrics are the most difficult to interpret. Thank you, thank you for drawing attention to Hoseok's complex, sophisticated artistry!

From the first translation you showed I am again blown away by j-hope. My goodness! I am so happy I found BTS and j-hope. He is my bias because I feel there’s so much more to him than we see. And I love people like that

Thank you so much for this video. I too, have always felt like I was missing so much of JHope's meaning because I am not a Korean speaker and rely solely on translations. I always felt like so much of what he is saying in his music is tantalizingly close, yet out of reach because I don't have the the language skills to really understand. I am a huge fan of JHope and his songwriting ability and your video helped quite a lot in delving a bit deeper. 💜💜💜💜

Wow again you blow my mind. I’ve always thought J Hope was the member that I knew the least even though he’s always open and welcoming. He’s like an enigma, I have to look deeper and pay closer attention to see who he is.

This is fascinating. I thought of J-Hope as a dancer who learned to rap from Suga and RM (or that is what I've heard) so seeing that he was so involved in the lyrics and creation of the songs with RM and Suga has always intrigued me. He doesn't present himself as someone with the depth you showcase here (and not knowing Korean, it escaped me), but his visuals - like his creativity with the photoshoots that they each did - made me think there was an artist that more multifaceted than what was on the surface. Learning that his father is likely a literature teacher makes sense that J-Hope would have a background and talent to create with words as well as with dance and visual arts. I need to re-watch the J-Hope in the Box documentary now with this new understanding and appreciation for him. I always liked him, but this exploration of his lyricism gives me another level of appreciation for him.

I love this series & so happy they're getting the chance to do solo work. It's really allowing them, and Army, the chance to explore more complex sides to them as individual artists. (When they announced their "hiatus", I mentioned on another channel that it would be good for them. Like 7 plants growing in the same pot, at some point they need to be divided, so their roots can strengthen & grow. Doesn't mean the 7 plants can't still be enjoyed together. Can't wait to see what happens when they regroup!) I knew Hope World was darker than it appeared ( & loving that juxtaposition), and when JitB dropped, I truly became a full on fan of J-Hope. He just really seemed to blossom & get recognition for how unbelievably talented he is. Funnily, even with the poor translations, I seemed to manage to get the interpretations you & your friends offered. Maybe I spoke Korean in past life 😄! Thank you, again, for such interesting content & please send my thanks to your friends for their insights. 💜🙏

It is indeed frustrating not to be familiar with the Korean language. But more is needed to really understand and thus appreciate J-Hope's lyrics. Thanks to your explanation, it becomes clear that he is also a gifted writer. In addition, he is a great dancer. I respect him so much.

The part about "tin can porche", immediately reminded me of when V talked about the luxury cars he bought before having his license - he spoke about them in such a way, that everyone believed he actually owned them - then, as an after thought would casually drop the fact that they were remote controlled cars. I wish there was a way to recommend accurate / proper translations for those of us who don't speak Korean, as I think a poor translation is worse than a mis-heard lyric & completely undermines the meaning of a song.

tyvm. I would love a series digging deeper into the layers of some of their songs which I miss for not understanding Korean. They are impressive lyricists and poets and I would love to grasp more of the depth they are offering with their references to Korean literature or vernacular expressions. Video, articles, whatever format suits. This video has wet my appetite for going beyond the sound, the visual and the beat. It very much reminds me of Jacques Brel, a Belgian poet, singer and actor of decades ago (mostly in French, some in Dutch). tyvm to anyone willing to share more of their native Korean language and culture.

J-Hope is an Aquarius they tend to be very deep thinkers. I believe the Korean translated by Koreans are the real interpretations. It makes more sense and just knowing J-Hope and his history it is things he would sing about.

Everything I learn about those guys reminds me of how little I know. How little we all know, including themselves because they always let us take part in their thoughts and reflections. There’s always so much more we can’t know than what we can know, and that could be stressful but also relieving 😌 I decided to find it relieving.

The slang for the cheapest entry models of luxury car Bands calling it a' tin can' is also an old UK English expression meaning the same thing. eg 'oh you've bought a tin can Porsche' referring to the the cheapest Porsche model available.

Given all the different interpretations, I wonder if Koreans in general are confused by his lyrics. It would be great to have this level of analysis of all his songs, and all the BTS songs. Why doesn't BH/Hybe hire competent translators and have them speak to the artist to get the right interpretation down? So frustrating.

it is frustrating. I wish literature experts and language experts will help in pushing for this. BTS has the rare power and skill to bridge literature with mainstream. Korea is missing so much opportunities and fans and music lovers are also getting deprived of the beauty of their art

I’m focusing on an in-depth study of J-Hope’s artistry and all pertaining to the vastness of what he comes up with and it is such a labour that I’m so glad to put the commitment of effort in, totally worth it, and damn it is of such depths! So I hope some day I can publish an initiative of research on this matter, with soon I would hope more interactions with people mastering certain things I only have a novice appreciation of for now... anyways....😅

j-hope is the most versatile artist on BTS. like.. he can do anything thrown at him, his perception over the world is... mind blowing. he can see the other side of POV and tells us abt it. he can tell us we are the shiftiest shit without us feeling hurt by it, that is his weapon in his songs hahahahaha. trusting, but untrusting at the same time. the paradigm he applies in his lyrics is very vast that can be meant anything for people who can relate to it. and instead to scare people with the deep wide and dark savage message, he deliver the message in what suga said as popular and happy beat of rap. the more direct, darker and more honest sharp msg can be seen in MORE and ARSON. but his popular upbeat song like daydream does have bigger meaning and interpretation. as pisces do, they create their own world, as surreal as they want, and live happily in it. maybe this can be related as the frog that loved his well so much, because he lives there. but instead of being curious abt the outer world, he stays in the well while telling those outer world how beautiful, surreal, and vast his well is. since no one can enjoy the well as happy as he is himself. he is the dali.

You do realize that this is a series right? And that Jimin will have his turn? Ms. Fairlane appears to be going by age order, oldest to youngest. There's no need to hype-comment a member who is not the subject AND no need to comment negatively about a member. They each will have their turn.
