#milsurp #coldwarpistol #czpistol The CZ-50 and CZ-70 pistols are still coming out on the military surplus market, but what are the actual differences between the two?

As a Czech I can say there isnt much of diffrence.. Only in hammer and grips.. You wont find diffrence in grips in your example becouse you got same style of grips on 50 and 70... There was 50, 50-70 and 70.. The 50-70 were the older one upgraded with new hammer and grips sometimes.. Also 50 the first of them were made in ČZ Strakonice from better material, later the 70s were made with cheaper materials and were times when it would brake and they were made in CZ Uherský Brod.. The ČZ Strakonice factory made before war guns and motorcycles, similar to Jawa.. After communist take over (not a really take over becouse you would not belive people here actually voted for them and they won legit) so after 1948 there was about to begin new are.. The guns were for a few years made there, Than ČZ Strakonice was making smaller motorcycles of 125cc and 175cc.. Jawa the other motocycle manufacturer were originaly also gun factory but since ww2 they didnt make single gun.. So Jawa made motorcycles of 250cc 350cc and few 500cc 4 strokes.. The guns were manufactured in ZB - Zbrojovka Brno and ČZ Uherský brod where CZ makes guns to this day.. These guns were mainly for police forces, back in the days, in a hospital for example was a guard with one of these pistols, it was easy to use and every person could fire it.. Military used VZ 52 in Tokarev rounds.. But not the border guards.. My father was a conscript in 1988 I think and border guards were as police under Ministry of Interior or how to say it in english :D.. So there was this slight diffrence.. For example VZ 58 was in two varients, it folding and fixed stock.. They say that fixed was infantry and folding paratroopers and machanized troops, in reality, even plain border patrol had the folding varient.. To end this with simple note, there is no big diffrence that you can spot by eye.. Basicly same pistol.. If you had VZ 82/83 thats something diffrent :D

I also see a difference in the slide serrations, in how the end of the beavertail is cut and in the thickness of the trigger.

I have a CZ70 and I think it’s got the same grips as your 50, so you may have aftermarket grips. I’ll have to look the next time I open the safe. I also have CZ27 which is totally different. All good guns.

Your CZ70 has repro CZ50 grips - not neccesarily a bad thing. My CZ70 came with horrible home-made plywood grips. Initially, I found a set of CZ50 grips online. Eventually, I did get a set of the factory CZ70 grips, but decided to keep the CZ50 ones on my pistol for the range. In my opinion and experience, the CZ50 grips are not only better looking, but they're definitely more comfortable than the CZ70 grips.

In California? Cz83, Cz50, and CZ52 pistols are all curio and relic and so are exempt from California's roster of firearms eligible for sale. The CZ70 isn't C&R unless the FFL has certified it is over 50 years old, which most aren't.

Great explanation on the few differences between them. Always wondered about that. What type of accuracy do you see with them off the bench at 20+ yards? I like 32's. I have a Beretta 81BB and a Keltec P32 that are both fun to shoot. Also have a Ruger SP101 327 Mag revolver that will shoot 32 ACP, 32 S&W, 32 S&W long, 32 H&R mag and 327 Federal

They both seem fairly accurate when shooting them with the fixed barrel design. I'm sure any shots that are off are from my own inaccuracy rather than the pistols.

I had the 52 I would have loved either to go with it

I've been wanting to get a 52 for a while now, especially since I have others that share the Tokarev cartridge, but I haven't found one at a good enough price yet.

@@GearyGunderson yeah im ashamed of surplus prices to the point im not getting back in to it unless it goes down anymore im prioritizing modern first for reasons of ban potential

The grips on your 70 appear, to me anyway, to be reproduction 50 grips. If you google cz70, you will find that the typical "70 style" grip panels have a checkered sort of molding (i.e. lines up AND down on the grips) as apposed to "50 style" grips, which just have the horizontal lines molded into them. Some 70's also have a checkered trigger face, whereas 50's tend to have a smooth trigger face. 70's also tend to have a slightly different finish on the loaded chamber indicator than the slide, whereas 50's tend to be a uniform finish.

Thanks for the info, it didn't occur to me until filming that the grips seemed aftermarket.

I think the CZ 50 is C&R eligible where as the CZ 70 is not.
