Since I had ETS 7 years ago, it has become a painful dread for me which forced me to compromise one of the most precious of my activities- playing the piano.
Here In the video I am trying to play the instrument without a fan like I used to do before the surgery. The month of recording is, September- Hot and humid time in India. But mind it I can drip sweat while playing even when there is cooler ON or AC On. it doesn't matter.
Any work or job that requires you to work in hot conditions- gym, exercises, factory work, field jobs, material handling jobs, defense or police jobs. This surgery can become a negative bargain for you. Be aware and stay away from the surgery.

Hi, You can read my previous comments on this video. But they are old now and a lot of new understanding I have had on this surgery. Here is my conclusion. ETS has a multitude of side effects which are unknown to medical fraternity(doctors and surgeons) because they manifest years later- 5 to 10 years even. Compensatory sweating is most widely known side effect- which is sweat on the back and chest that can be at least 3-5 times your original palmar sweat. It can cause severe discomfort, make you compromise life. Another is, bitter and painfully cold hands in winters(Raynaud's Disease) which is due to the absence of heat flow to the hands after ETS. The hands and fingers get so cold that you cannot hold a mouse on a computer, do any work with hands at all. In General, ETS thwarts all autonomous functions in the Upper body- those ants running on your face, ears red hot suddenly, hair raising on hands and arms, wetness in eyes. These are all essential autonomous responses of your body. Now, they are what makes you who you are- human. They ensure you can feel intensity of emotions, they ensure quality of life. Now, they are not indispensable to existence of life - your life can go on without them, but you will feel dead in the head. I joined an ETS support group on Facebook and found many horror stories like mine who go through he aftermath of ETS. Some are living on the edge and some couldn't make it. I grappled with suicidal thoughts for three years after getting ETS and how it affected my life. I don't recommend ETS to anyone. Bilateral or Unilateral. No. Nervous system is far too complicated to be played with. don't play chance with you life.

From my experience of ETS surgery and the brunt of compensatory sweating which hampered my life significantly. I only understand that the correct understanding of the meaning of compensatory sweating is missing that people always mistake it for something else. Infect compensatory word is misleading its immediately gives the inference that its the compensation of palmer or facial sweat whatever the affected area was before the ETS surgery. But its not the case. Surgeons don’t talk about the body’s heat displacement which happens after the surgery. When you decide to get rid of palmer sweat ETS also cuts off the heat flow to the head, arms face and shoulders. So, its a significant area to loose for possible dissipation of heat. It amounts to 40-50% of the body’s heat dissipation throughout the day. Another lacuna is our understanding of sweat in general, We associate sweat with exercises workout and running only. Because that’s when it is seen. But the origin of sweat is not in the workout, the friction of muscles or the heavy breathing. Its origin is in the thoughts that are triggered before the actual action. Its the thought that i have to jump a long distance that triggers the heat burst in the body. Its the thought that i have to cross that running distance make you sweat and not actually running it. Infect body gets cooled while running. Have you noticed? Let me make it more clear. Have you seen people sweating before an interview. Sweat suddenly appear on the forehead before going on stage, a performance or a speech? A person can sweat profusely when apprehended and indited for a crime. So these thoughts are the root cause and triggers for sweat and heat flow in the body and they are the same thoughts we have in our regular day to day lives. While standing in ATM lines, boarding a train, working in kitchen or travelling for certain work. These very thoughts which are so mundane and are barely noticeable start to trigger sweat on the body after the ETS surgery because a lot of area for heat dissipation gets severed. So, the surprise and the unexpected outcome of the surgery is the sweat in the regular day to day activities which never triggered sweat before when body had a balance of heat before the ETS. This balance is so sensitive and fragile that its a crime to disturb that and surgeons who don’t understand it are misleading you. Because they have not experience the discomfort on their own. Don’t ever underestimate the importance of body comfort. This the vehicle in which you have o sit and do all the work. If it is uncomfortable you simply won’t to anything. Anything at all. I had to give up my most precious activity. Playing the piano and the brunt is far reaching in other aspects of life. I cannot imagine myself doing material handling work, delivery work, running here and there and even shopping in hot weather becomes so very trepidatious. Don’t ever ever disturb the nervous system of your body. That the bottom line.

Well, the point of this video is ETS can be catastrophic for people who play any music instruments in silence (especially in summers). ETS in the long term affects other aspects of life as well. I don't recommend it for anyone who intends to do any prolonged activity in hot conditions or your job depends on working in hot conditions regularly.

Some Questions which keep Coming to me, I am trying to answer here 1) Cost of the surgery is nearly 2 Lacs (for Both Sides) 2) Hands went dry completely after surgery (but right hand showed some reversal due to ganglion regrowth- nearly 30% reversal happened) Watch another video i made trying to explain ETS Side effects. The comments below will hopefully answer all your questions. And my bad experience of ETS surgery is limited to playing piano. I liked to play piano(which is quite an extensive activity) without a fan or ac for silence. No other life aspect was affected and surgery was quite successful otherwise. So, if your job is a sitting job and you don't have to engage in any extensive physical activity for long periods without fan or ac. Then surgery should be OKAY. Also, you can consider surgery for one hand only(your primary hand), which will reduce the risk of compensatory sweating to dismal levels. There were some comments in my comments section who also reported problems from compensatory sweating and I don't know their stories. I had surgery done in MAX healthcare(Dr. Khuller) but now I know Dr. Arun Prasad(Apollo Hospital) is most experienced for doing such surgeries. He has done more than 2000 such surgeries.

Hi everyone.... even I was facing with this issue for more than a decade and finally came to a conclusion that I have to live with this forever, until I met an endocrinologist and she gave me a medicine to which it worked wonders to reduce my sweating to 70%. But it took me 7 months to get results. (Inderal 40 mg) it depends on your usage....let me know in comments section below...thanks

Sir aap jaise ac me ya cooler ke pass me matlab cool weather me rahte hoge to bhi aap ko pasina azta hai ki nahi aur aata hai to kitna aata hai mai mobile shop kholna chahta but hand paseene se pareshan hu phone pasina pasina ho jata hai 🙏

Agar koi activity aisi ho jisme dimag lage, to pasina aayega. Mujhe ac or cooler me bhi body se pasina drip kar jata hai, surgery ke baad. Piano bahut emotionally demanding activity hai isliye. Mobile shop utna demanding nahi hoga. Par phir bhi main surgery recommend nhi karta. Mera right hand abhi bhi 100% dry nhi hai, phone chalane me dikkat hoti hai kabhi kabhi. Surgery bhi 100% dry hands ki guarantee nhi hoti. Probability hoti hai.
