Want to start making soap at home but the whole process feels overwhelming? Don't worry! Let's go through the ingredients and tools you need, the basic process, and everything you need to know to make that first homemade bar of soap!
SUPPLIES YOU WILL NEED:
My favorite source of oil, lye, and fragrance is Nurture Soap: nurturesoap.com?aff=326
Stick blender: amzn.to/2Qq3WLE
Digital scale: amzn.to/2WiyceW
Basic bar mold: amzn.to/33rADNL
The recipe I use in this video:
Coconut Oil: 12 ounces
Palm Oil: 12 ounces
Olive Oil: 12 ounces
Almond Oil: 4 ounces
Water: 11-15 ounces
Lye: 5.72 ounces
More of my soap recipes:
Bar dish soap: • Homemade Bar Dish Soap...
High lather shower soap: • The Best Cold Process ...
Palm free soap: • Cold Process Baby Soap...

Thank you for sharing. I also do not use Palm oil in my recipes so instead I substitute it with shea butter and cocoa butter. If a recipe calls for 20% palm oil, I use15% shea and 5% cocoa butter to make up the 20%. Hope this helps whoever is averse to using palm oil. Love and greetings from Pretoria, South Africa

So as a chemist I would recommend to, out of safety just buy a beaker to do this instead of glass, or labeling the glass. Making soap is a very easy reaction theoretically you are just making salts out of the oils. Great video! I love that you mentioned the properties of different oils

Not an expert here at all, but I've made soap and have ones that are 2 or so years old that are completely fine. If they have a lot of pigment (coloring) then you may notice a slight discoloration over time, it really depends on what you use to add color. I also spray them with alcohol once they set up and cure, which seems to help with color integrity over time.

The video was frustrating to watch because we can’t see the countertop or the products. It was just you from the chest up. Next time maybe show the entire station.

You give very detail instructions yet you do not follow them! I am a soap maker I wear gloves, apron, mask & goggles. I mix my lye outside on my back porch. Please if you are going to make any soap please wear & use the proper gear before you make any soap!

That's what I was saying,I was confused. I'm new to all of this so, I was like " doesn't she suppose to wear gloves and be outside?!" I see everyone else wearing gloves and she was stressing about how dangerous lye is,but didn't wear gloves.

One thing no one has mentioned is the cooking utensils used. In plant dyeing you have to keep a separate set so no one potentially eats off of something. Is that true for soap making as well? The spoons, cups, immersion blender and pots would all need to be kept separate and marked in that case..

Just a comment for future videos -you have that 5 gallon bucket of coconut oil right in front of you BETWEEN your camera and the viewer and it is super distracting. Maybe check what the viewer is seeing before you start taking the video -because the top of the 5 gallon bucket in the way of seeing what you are showing is caused me to stop watching. Ugh!

This was very informative. I used to do soaps with my grandma when I was younger. I got her recipe for one of her recipes but doesn’t have measurements 😂. Your videos had helped me to figure out how she did it.
