Seventeen Targaryens ruled from the Iron Throne. The Targaryen dynasty ended after nearly 300 years of reign, mostly because of the Targaryens themselves. If Targaryens did not throw their house into the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons (events which are shown in Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon), House Targaryen would still have dragons to this day and Targaryens would still rule Westeros.
There you have it guys, every Targaryen king who ruled Westeros.

If only the Targaryens prioritized their dragons growth and their children's growth and familial ties, and made it about the family as the seat of power instead of fighting over it... dragons may be fierce but they are stronger together, forged in fire and blood ... but alas.

I believe the three eyed raven tried to warn the Mad King about the white walkers which helped turn him mad, and maybe that's where the "burn them all" came from, he just wanted to burn the wrong enemy

Aegon the Conqueror Targaryen's right hand and half brother was a Baratheon, founder of House Baratheon in Westeros. How ironic is it that a Baratheon ended Targaryens.

SO… the grandfather of Daenerys is Jaeaherys, the grandfather of Jaeaherys is Maekar, the grandfather of Maekar is Aegon IV, the grandfather and grandmother of Aegon IV are Daemon and Rhaenyra!

@@dworroba7693 technically she lost. it was Aegon the Second who won but then lost the war by not pardoning the lords as then they probably would've bent the knee especially if he sent his nephew to be a maester or join the watch. But it is her line that survives so technically she won that part of the war but she also was never recognized as a queen and her 6 months in KL went so bad that the claims of women were disregarded for the next 180 years.

Aegon I conquered the realm. Aenys mishandled it. Maegor wrecked it. Jaehaerys I rebuilt it. Viserys I set it up to get wrecked again. Rhaenyra and Aegon Il burnt it to the ground. Aegon Ill got depressed while other people patched it back up. Daeron I went off to Dorne and got killed. Baelor went full blown religious nutter. Viserys II actually knew what he was doing.. for a single year. Aegon IV completely f***ed everything, literally. Daeron Il acquired Dorne but also got stuck with his dad's mess. Aerys I was barely worth mentioning. Maekar was a great fighter, which was too bad for his brother. Aegon V hosted the worst family barbeque ever. Jaehaerys II ah... happened. And Aerys II went completely nuts and ruined everything.

It's worth pointing out that Robert Baratheon had Targaryen ancestry as well. His grandmother was a Targaryen. Hell, House Baratheon was founded by Aegon the Conqueror’s half brother so Targaryen blood from the beginning. Although many people may believe he won the crown by right of conquest, in reality his claim comes from his own Targaryen ancestry. This is part of the reason why none of the other great houses contested Robert's claim to the throne.

Nice video! Part of me wishes that House of the Dragon would have started right from Aegon's conquest, but really looking forward to seeing the Dance too.

Maegor the Cruel walked so the Targaryens could run… Maegor paved the way for the next Targaryen rulers to be able to focus on creating strong bonds and alliances to the other houses. Maegor made sure the Targaryens would have no opposition. It was easy for Jaehaerys to be a good king when everyone was already afraid of his family in the first place.

Aegon the Conqueror did several backflips in his grave when last male Targaryen went into exile after killing the last female Targaryen and Bran the Broken became king.

Rhaenyra also sat on the Iron Throne as queen but her reign was not later recognised by the official Westeros record. Wonder why her son and future king Aegon III did not correct it in history books
