I bought a Flair manual espresso machine to start in the hobby. I really loved it. I'll never forget though, a few weeks after I started using it, I had some friends over and thought I would show it off and make them some coffee. It wouldn't pull. That was the day I learned simply rinsing the screens was not a thorough enough clean. The build up had made it impossible to pull shots. After that, I started making sure to pull clean hot water through after every espresso.

I've been inspired to finally start on my coffee journey thanks to your channel! Picked up a v60 and a few different beans to find out what I like and what I don't. Already my morning cup has improved tenfold. To anyone wondering if taking the leap is worth it - it so is!!

I got a Flair Neo a few years ago as my introduction to espresso, but I've had a "nicer" semi-automatic for the last year or so that I use almost daily. Your Flair videos got me to dig my old one out of the closet to play around with this weekend and I've been enjoying for all the same reasons you found here. Switching back to the lever machine has been so satisfying and I'm sure I'm making better coffee with it than I was back when I first got it. Thanks for the inspiration and I look forward to seeing more of your coffee journey!

I love just watching you get excited by going deeper into a new hobby. I’ve been dipping my toes in coffee and fighting games but I’ve watched your channel for a while. Just started actually playing fg’s and playing with stick is so so fun. I’ve yet to go down any espresso things yet. It’s just nice to see you being at the early stages of this hobby and being excited with basically everything.

My favorite brewers are the steep and release kind (Hario Switch & Clever brewer). Very consistent and no fuss for people too lazy to experiment like me 😅.

Loving this coffee journey from you, as a coffee nerd. Since you mentioned a sense of sourness, you might need to incorporate more pre-heating since it might be a temperature issue. Cheers!

The next step is to buy a coffee roaster! Not sure what your living situation is, but I have a HotTop and a Gene Cafe that I use on my patio, I believe there are more inside friendly roasters available now. Very funny, but I seem to have most of the gear that you do. (Flair, same grinder, a few strats, not to mention all the consoles! You certainly have good taste!

Red ranks are where the real knowledge checks are: grind settings, temperature control, ratio. Once you get past that, you start making your own combo mixes of coffee beans.

As someone who's been diving down the filter coffee rabbit hole over the last few months and getting into specialty coffees etc, in the next few months you will probably try a lighter roast coffee that will change your view of coffee forever. I tried a blend a few months ago that literally tasted like a neapolitan ice cream, it was insane and eye opening as to how coffee can taste.

I put a spoon of Coffee in my Cup, Hot Water, Sugar and Milk. You have to Drink it careful to not swallow too much of the grinded Coffee, it tastes ok enough and is super quick to make.

Personally, manual lever espresso maker taste better for me, than using automated one... Probably because we got complete control of the pressure.

I recently bought the Cafelat Robot but I regret not buying it with the pressure gauge! I’ll be buying 1kg of beans and trying to perfect my skills over a weekend whenever it arrives.

I guess lever machines can be used ok with just a shot mirror but getting a pressure gauge will surely help with getting repeatable results.

You can try using less coffee and still use the same ratio so that you don't overcaffeinate yourself while pulling more shots 😂 Haven't used a manual lever, but I'm pretty much sold on getting one for my birthday now. How long until you get down the roasting rabbit hole, I wonder? (Can you get green beans in Japan?)
